I've only listened once, but I already think I'll end up liking it more than Brothers. I seriously think they've gotten better with every album. I like when bands gradually evolve over time.

I Believe In All is basically a better-realized version of Two Of A Kind.

Four Letter Word one of the catchier songs? It's definitely one of the best, but I'd say Millionaire, The Roller, and the like would be in consideration for that. But this review's pretty erratic anyway.

Well, Paul didn't play Beatles songs right out of the gate. It wasn't until '76 (I believe -- feel free to check my facts) that he threw a handful in. And Wings were one of the biggest bands in the world at that point, so it wasn't because he needed to.

oasis wasn't make to break the us market. the us public just don't get all this working class hero thing Perhaps in relation to Oasis, but Bruce Springsteen is an example of a guy who is loved all across the nation and has a very working class background/image/theme/motif/whatever.

4LW is fucking bad. First Song. But still. Yup. I actually posted a lengthy rant about how people overrate Liam's vocals incredibly on here because I watched a video of Four Letter Word and nothing else. I was appalled at his voice, but I deleted the post when I realized his voice was fine, it was just that song.

Adele's pretty great. I got burned out on her over the summer because the job I had played her songs constantly, but I liked her record before that and now that I have some distance I like it again. Great singer and she's got the songs.

You Know My Name was not only the best Bond theme song, but it was a breath of fresh air that after the watered-down, castrated caricature of 007 that Brosnan shat out, we now had a grittier, more masculine Bond. Inspired choice, song, and arrangement. Flawless. I'd rather Michael Fassbender be James Bond and set it back in the 1960s (like Tarantino recommended to producers in 2005). It would likely turn it into a strange caricature of Mad Men. If they just used Casino Royale as a jumping point rather than go in the strange direction that was Quantum Of Solace it would be great.

Oh yeah I don't trust anything Slash says about who wrote what. Forget Paradise City then - take Patience and the same point applies Yeah, you're definitely right. I just wanted to make sure you're not one of those annoying Slash fans constantly degrading Axl's importance to GnR. I'll admit Axl is a difficult character to love, but the man wrote November fucking Rain by himself. He deserves more credit than he gets as a composer.

funny, because some of the best bond themes were done by americans. "nobody does it better" by carly simon "you know my name" by chris cornell "you only live twice" by nancy sinatra usa! usa! usa! usa! 1&3 okay, but 2, urgg, that was bad You Know My Name was not only the best Bond theme song, but it was a breath of fresh air that after the watered-down, castrated caricature of 007 that Brosnan shat out, we now had a grittier, more masculine Bond. I grew up on beatles tunes but when you reach a certain age in which you are more musically aware you end up discovering them again and when I did it blew my mind. It still does. It was like you turned on the CD and not only was every song superb but they invented so much stuff. They have such an influence on modern pop music that its incredible. Although Oasis is my favorite band, The Beatles are the greatest band of all time if you had to pick one. K+. Very well said, and it was the same for me. There's a million things I could say about The Beatles, but the best thing about them is for all the things they invented and revolutionized, they never lost sight of the most important thing: writing great songs with amazing melodies.

To the poster right above me, which Noel-written songs were only great because of Liam's voice? Because Supersonic, Live Forever, etc. are great regardless of who sings it (to a point, if we're being hyper-literal). He may have elevated them, but they're just great songs regardless. Sorry, I need to nitpick two things: 1) Axl wrote the Paradise City lyrics alone and he was one of four members who wrote the music. So that's definitely a different story. 2) I'm sure most people don't demand the royalty checks, but I'm sure Noel would force the issue as much as he could, if only to make sure Liam is constantly reminded of who wrote those songs. Nah Axl didn't write the bulk of those lyrics. It was mainly Duff, you can tell, the words aren't really Axl's style. And the music was Slash-Izzy-Duff. I could be wrong though so I'm happy for you to find a source that contradicts me, because I could have used another song. For example Think About You or Patience, which were Izzy compositions. He has a credit on them because pre-UYI it was all songs written by GNR, but they didn't write them all as a band. Axl wrote the bulk of the lyrics for AFD but Izzy wrote more of the music than anyone. The wiki page, mostly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appetite_for_DestructionSlash's version from his book is different, though. He gives himself most of the credit, saying he was strumming the chords and started humming the melody, and Axl came up with the chorus lyrics.

Okay, so it's not the case here.
I think comparing this guy to Alex Turner and (!!!) Morrissey (even on a surface level) is a little ludicrous. But that being said, I'm all for people having their opinions on music, as I feel too often we're told what to believe and what to think (about music) by certain media outlets. And that annoys me a bit, so good on you for standing up for your boy.

I heard she shouted "I own Nirvana!" and walked off. Was this someone exaggerating or what?
Anyway, Courtney Love is a fucking nutcase and I feel bad for the daughter. She's already shown some strange tendencies to say the least (her artwork, her suicide birthday party) Now apparently she's severed ties with her mother and is getting married at 19. Poor kid never had a chance.

Even if someone doesn't like the Beach Boys you have to acknowledge their importance. Without them we very well may not have had Sgt. Pepper's...or at least it would've been vastly different.

No offense, but it seems like you discover something, get obsessed with it, and then re-evaluate months later when the excitement's worn off a bit. I think this poll is an example of that.
Alex Turner is better in every regard. He can be very specific, as you say, but he can also be quite obtuse. And yet when he is very opaque, his unparalleled way with words makes the listener not even care that the song's meaning is impossible to figure out.
If you can come up with a Los Campesinos line even close to this then I'll reconsider:
"Topless models doing semaphore wave their flags as she walks by and get ignored"

Because Supersonic, Live Forever, etc. are great regardless of who sings it (to a point, if we're being hyper-literal). He may have elevated them, but they're just great songs regardless. My head says I'd like Liam not to song songs that read 'Noel Gallagher' in the credits My heart says if I was at a Beady Eye gig and the riff for Cigs and Alcohol started, I'd fucking love it. Put it this way, my 'other' favourite band is Guns N Roses, I've only ever seen the modern incarnations live, once in 02 and twice last year. You think I stood there when they closed with Paradise City thinking 'oooh but Duff, Izzy and Slash wrote that and they're not here, best fold my arms'?? Did I fuck, screamed every fucking word and loved it. As for the royalties thing, it varies country to country anyway but I'm fairly sure it's one of them ignored rules. I sincerely doubt Noel would get any money if Beady Eye play Supersonic, or that World of Twist get royalties aside from the direct sales and any future DVD releases etc. I could be wrong but I don't see it. Sorry, I need to nitpick two things: 1) Axl wrote the Paradise City lyrics alone and he was one of four members who wrote the music. Well, considering Noel can play his songs all he likes and Liam would have to be cutting checks to Noel every time BDI decides to play Supersonic or whatever, I'd say they're not as much Liam's as Noel's.

Noel playing songs he wrote does not constitute a cover version. Beady Eye playing songs Liam, Andy, or Gem wrote does not. Beady Eye playing songs Noel wrote does.

Do you feel good about yourself now? Considering my thread's only a few down, I'd guess you're referring to my music. If that's actually what you feel about my (or anyone else's) music, why wouldn't you say it in the appropriate thread and perhaps give the artist something to think about?

I like Squeeze quite a bit. I always thought Tilbrook sounded a bit like a young Liam. Certain phrases and things, especially on Pulling Mussels.
