I saw on wikipedia and I noticed that the crappy artist Adele's new 21 album released in January of this year has sold over 3 million in the UK. I was wondering what anyone thought the chance Adele's album could top Morning Glory at 4.3 million sold in the UK? everyhit.com/recordalb.html Attachments:

14. "Urban Hymns" - The Verve (1997) (3.1 million)
Wow, didn't know that this album has sold a lot in UK.

I like Adele. She isn't crap. The UK could do a lot worse. If she can keep the album sale up I suppose so. She did 27,000 last week. At that rate it'll take another year for her to surpass them. But if her third album does for 21 what 21 did for 19 it's a certitude. Oasis need a pretty successful reissue come 2015.

But I mean...there has to be a point of saturation though. And she's gotta be nearing it. I mean...this rest of those albums have been bought by multiple generations.

If Adele is a crappy artist then I don't even want to know what you call the actual untalented artists out there.
BTW, the list posted is a bit old. Abba - Gold passed out WTSMG well over a year ago.

No. Adele is great. I even bought the album. I don't think it will have the longetivity of MG though. Adele will be yesterdays news by the end of this year. I think it will fade out in the late 3 mills.

would be contrary to what noel said that nobody will sell that much records anymore. but if she sells more than MG it's fine for me because her music is really good.

Adele's pretty great but I got sick of her over the summer. The job I worked played her music constantly and it just started to wear on me. That's the biggest risk to her future at this point. Everyone already knows about her, now she just needs to avoid extreme overexposure.

I'd have thought that Adele will have to have sustained success throughout her career to compete with Morning Glory. Although to be fair she's off to a good start. The thing is, in 20 years time a whole generation of 16 year olds will still be discovering rock n roll, and in turn, Oasis and Morning Glory. Pop doesn't really inspire the same sort of devotion. Plus, the entire Oasis story (with sibling rivalry, Britpop and break-ups) means that they will always have cultural significance. Whether the same can be said for Adele, I'm not so sure.

Exactly, I remember people comparing their future to Zeppelin when hall of fame threads came up. they were criticized during their career, but in 20 years time they got a huge resurgence of popularity and all of the negativity wore off

Adele's 21 was certified 12X Platinum (3,600,000) by the BPI on yesterday. She's 5th all time based on BPI. Oasis is at number 1 with 14X Platinum (4,200,000).
As far as actual sales go, by tomorrow, she should almost be at 3.3 million.
Goddamn.

She'll end up beating Be Here Nows record aswell This is very unlikely. Pop doesn't seem to stir the same amount of devoted interest or groundswells of anticipation that are associated with rock records. Look at Lada Gaga's Born this Way, sold very strongly in its first week but hardly broke any records, even though her previous album was probably the most successful of the twenty-first century. Adele will sell consistently, but not hugely upfront, she'll be probably be similar to Take That with her next album (500,000+ in first week). She would have to have a huge single prior to its release to ignite the same kind of frenzied fanfare that befell on Be Here Now.

Adele's pretty great. I got burned out on her over the summer because the job I had played her songs constantly, but I liked her record before that and now that I have some distance I like it again. Great singer and she's got the songs.

Adele's an incredible talent, but is in a different league than Oasis was in 1995. She's not revolutionizing anything, but she is making great, authentic music that manages to appeal to a lot of people. Oasis was an entirely different breed and had so many other factors to their influence. It's hard to compare the two. They're both great, though.
