After not giving WOOWN a spin for a day after rampant abuse, I have returned to it today.
I can quite comfortably assert that this song ranks as an 8/10. Perhaps just missing that designation of being a classic (although not by much).
Easily one of the best songs Noel has done - better than most of Who Built the Moon.
These are the types of archetypical Noel songs I have always loved - an atmospheric, moving, emotional Noel ballad. I’m well pleased with this one.

And we have a music video! See you at the premiere. Now we know what Matt Smith was up to.

The song defo sticks in your head as some have mentioned, that’s what the best Oasis and HFB songs did on the first and second album, things started going down hill I thought on the third album and I thought it was a bad move to put those EP’s out so quick after, this sounds like one of those classic ballads from the past, be interesting to see how well it does but It got me to order the best of the other day and has picked my interest back up again with the HFB stuff.

A real gem of a track. I'd not listened to much Gallagher-related stuff for a good six months or so prior to this single being release, but I must say that this song alone has made me revisit NGHFB in particular and I think the break between listens has been good for me. The best of announcement has reminded me of how much quality music Noel has given us in the past 10 years. I hope that he continues to explore his tastes and make music that interests him. I think it's great that you don't really know what you are going to get with a NGHFB release these days, something traditionally Noel like this, or the complete opposite in something like Blue Moon Rising. Sure, there's been a few duff tracks along the way but I wouldn't swap this for half a dozen Noel-written songs every 3 or 4 years as per the latter day Oasis years. For him to go back to Oasis now would be a travesty.
Back to WOOWN - it's just simple, effortless Noel making a track of this quality seem easy to create when of course it's anything but. My only quibble is the nothingness of the instrumental segment of the song, it doesn't add anything for me. 8/10

Does this video take place in the same universe as the MV of The Importance of Being Idle?

I did my bit on film studies but could anyone please enlighten me what this nonsensical sequence of (admittedly sometimes) beautifully staged scenes is supposed to be about?
In the meantime, I just enjoy the way Noel always manages to smuggle in Scully. He seems to be his ultimate servant and sidekick, in an Addams family meets Godfather kinda way. Every time I've been to a NG-gig, close to stage time, he was creeping around the entrance (just like me obviously), trying to sell the remaining unsold tickets in full barker style.
Gala Gordon looks good, nevertheless.

An old memory comes to visit a man and they elope. But a rare case where a video makes a song sound more boring than it is. (The hazy, digitized black and white does the pace of the track no favors, imho.) Not that it really matters. They had to make a video and they did. Same as it ever was.

Makes perfect sense now after reading the plots of the two. So not anything to do with the actual song then.

It's interesting as I have the opposite opinion of the first and second albums in that I find them rather unspectacular and plodding, barring absolute gems here and there scattered as usual. Whereas I absolutely love the third album. EPs, like yourself, I can give or take. My favourites were not the dance tunes (aside from Blue Moon Rising which I really like) but the more traditional tunes that had different influences (e.g. A Dream Is All I Need To Get By) rather than the plodding drab Wandering Star (kind of sums up the worst parts of the first and second album). But I digress. I love this song too. What I mean to say is that, regardless of the wildly divergent opinions on Noel's work as discussed above, there seems to be unity over this track. Which says it's something pretty special I think.

It looks more like Claude LeLouch's A Man and A Woman (which was itself a more conventional and romantic knock-off of Godard). But anyway, I'm sure no one cares.

What is with the pricing of this track on the lossless download sites ... it seems like the single is the price of the best of album ($17 in New Zealand dollars) and the best of is the price of the single ($2.50 in NZD).
Obviously the prices are mixed up? So I'm not going to buy the single, but now would be a good time to pre-order the album if you want a digital copy lol.

No, no, we care (or at least I care ). That Godard quote from the director reminded me of this Noel rant: Hahaha. Great Noel rant. The funny part is that often video directors are young, hot-to-trot and just cutting their teeth -- so quite likely they ARE making Apocalypse Now in their heads (and are probably more nervous than Noel can imagine despite trying to act like little Coppolas)! Time was when a really great video (say A-ha's otherwise forgettable Take On Me with its stunning animation or a dark storytelling piece like Pearl Jam's Jeremy) could push a song into hit territory, but now it almost all sinks immediately into the infinite wasteland of YouTube. Rare is the video these days that is actually newsworthy let alone cinematic... Childish Gambino's "This is America" or Beyonce's "Formation" come to mind. But clearly this is not Gallagher territory. Think it's probably more charming for them to keep their legendary disdain for music videos than to suddenly aim for Godard ...

'I hear The Morning Sun doesn't Cast No Shadow"... Could be written in the HFB1 era? It's clearly mentioning Beady Eye song... Btw, 8/10 haha, Noel's secretly a Beady Eye fan

They could've made something good with Matt Smith but this awful. As for the song, I'm usually not very picky with NGHFB but I can't stand this one, maybe the only one of his whole catalogue that I can't enjoy not even a single part of it. I always cringe so hard with the line "cos you've got the love, you've got the love lady" I did my bit on film studies but could anyone please enlighten me what this nonsensical sequence of (admittedly sometimes) beautifully staged scenes is supposed to be about? The Doctor had a romance with his companion and then she finds the bedroom empty because he left with the TARDIS.

The only niggle I have with the song is fill the instrumental bit before the final chorus with something. But that's nit picking - talking about the bare bone essentials of a tune, it's class and one of his finest since going solo. As with many of Noel's finest solo songs, whether that be Oasis or High Flying Birds, it does have a country twinge to it. The result of his father's record collection who would DJ country music at a local club I believe (the only worthwhile influence he had for Noel)? Maybe, or I might just be looking into it too much as I've been listening to a lot of quality country music lately (a genre I used to dismiss so easily for its tackiness but at leave the majority of nonsense and at its heart has some of the greatest folk music you'll ever find). This is another good cover I think. We agree that Noel did not know how to solve the instrumental bit and the ending. This version has a best musical arrangement for the middle and the ending. Really nice. Gives it a more cinematic epic vibe that, again if I'm being picky, could have been pushed to the fore.

I haven't watched the official video yet. Mind you, I don't think that it's that exciting anyway from what I've read about it on here.

I always cringe so hard with the line "cos you've got the love, you've got the love lady" I like the song but that line also gets a wince from me, on several levels. I'm pretty much of the opinion that once the Beastie Boys put out "Hey Ladies," that was the end of the line for men calling women "lady" in songs. (And definitely don't say "high horse" and "lady" in the same song ... )
