Cigarettes In Hell is one of their best songs in the 00's. Great song! I've even heard it described as Oasis' best song - not sure about that, but I do love the dreamlike, melancholic, and contemplative atmosphere it creates. Probably should've been on SOTSOG. Though I do wish that the arrangement wasn't so Beatles-inspired.

When was Headshrinker written? If it was 93 or 94 id move Supersonic to track 2 and put Headshrinker at track 6. Imagine tracks 1 2 and 3... Rock n roll star, Supersonic, Live forever

Rock n roll star, Supersonic, Live forever It would have been around that period because it was written IIRC about an ex of Liam's called Cerice Blakeley, whom he dated from 1992 to 1994. They had already broken up when Ian Robertson of "Oasis: What's The Story?" fame (former bodyguard) had just begun working for him as he recounts in the book her turning up at an Oasis show already split from Liam but trying to get him back. In the end she cried that she had no money to get home to which Ian shoved IIRC two ten or twenty pound notes in her hand and told her to "Fuck off" which was instrumental in getting him onside with Liam- it all went south between him and Liam later in Paris.... She last surfaced in an 8th September 1996 article for News of the World under the catchy title "DRUG AND SEX HELL WITH LIAM" Going back to your idea of a track list I totally agree with having Supersonic at track two and replaced in the running with Headshrinker...perhaps go even further and relegate Digsy's Dinner to b-side material.

Thanks for the info didn't know that. I'd replace Digsys dinner with Listen up but it's too similar Live forever and Slide away

Slide Away's the aural equivalent of a painting-by-numbers painting.

Slide Away's the aural equivalent of a painting-by-numbers painting. Yes it's very basic. But what Oasis song isn't? I think it's part of the reason why it appeals to so many people

Slide Away's the aural equivalent of a painting-by-numbers painting. Slide Away is in the top 3 of Noel's penned songs, ever. The melody, Liam's vocals, the outro are out of this world. If that is a ballad by number what are Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Don't Go Away, Let There Be Love, etc ? Still, I thank you cos your post made me listen to that masterpiece for the first time in quite some times, and it's still 6 and a half of shivers.

It's my joint favourite Oasis track with The importance of being idle (which is my favourite because it got me into Oasis) and Gas panic (because when I got into Oasis I searched them on Limewire - anyone remember that?? - and that was one song I remember being hypnotised by)

I feel the same about Shakermaker, and in fairness a good part of that was written by ad executives and professional songwriters for an earlier coca-cola commercial. I never really understood Shakermaker's appeal to be honest.

Apart of Oasis died when Bonehead left. Either it was on his own or force, we'll never know. He brought a lot of attitude. Even though he failed at times, I think he kept Noel and Liam on a lighter note. Unlike afterwards, relationship was heavily strained.
I think Noel admire Guigsy to a certain degree. Even though he was quiet and not credited much. Football and roots (Manchester) was that bond, to this day Noel can not say a bad thing about Guigsy and never has.
Andy Bell was a bad fit. I don't think Noel cared for Andy. I think Liam was the reason for Andy Bell.
I'm for a reunion. I think it should be Noel, Liam , Gem and Bonehead. Drummer be whom ever fits the bill. I highly doubt Guigsy will ever be in the lime light again. Public eye was not his thing.

Noel brought Gem, Liam brought Andy after he heard Andy was about to join Gay Dad, even if he had never played bass before then. Other knowledgeable members, correct me if I'm wrong tho. And really, when did Noel ever care for anyone, let's be honest

I guess it would be unpopular to say the only Oasis songs I don't love are The Quiet Ones and Ain't Got Nothin'.

I don't care for Cast No Shadow at all. I rarely listen to it. The album version pales in comparison to the Maine Road version - that one is utterly majestic.

I don't care for Cast No Shadow at all. I rarely listen to it. In a late 1998 interview with NME to promote 'The Masterplan' Noel does actually say it was originally intended as a b-side I do agree with The Escapist though that when they got it right live such as at Maine Road it transformed the song and took it to another level

Oasis are shite.
(not saying I feel this way, but this is a very unpopular opinion on here.)

Since I've seen some talking about LJ in other threads, I'll leave this here.. Little James is SHIT. 100% crap without any redeeming quality. I know, objectively speaking there are worse songs in the Oasis catalogue but I totally despise it. Pure hate since the first listen. I've been hoping for years that none of my friends will ever listen to that song by chance and think "oh, that's the kind of songs he likes then". It would be fucking embarrassing
