you know the production is bad when people are saying dave sardy couldve done a better job.
I actually agree, think he couldve created a better collective sound than the clunky and muddy sound that this album seems to follow, this album just really lacks a good production, it all feels half finished and kind of empty.
think songs like SCYHO couldve done with a grander production of epic strings etc. The production made a half decent album pretty mediocre imo, its just not nice to listen to for the most part.

Just a few thoughts on Heathen Chemistry. Where to start. OK, I'll start with the artwork. I felt the album cover was really detached from the music. The album has a pretty upbeat and bright vibe. I don't know why they chose a moody out of focus Joy Division homage www.machacas.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/joy-division-tunnel1.jpg and that god awful Oasis logo font from SOTSOG era. I can't complain too much since it's in a black box this time... I was a huge Stooges/Iggy Pop fan back in my youth. I felt a little uncomfortable that they used two songs back to back that bare quite a bit of resemblance - Hung In a Bad Place (No Fun) and Force of Nature (Nightclubbing). I always associated Force of Nature from the SOTSOG era. I was actually hoping at the time that the song would have ended up as a SOTSOG b-side. There were rumors that there would have been a 4th single I think maybe Where Did It All Go Wrong or Roll It Over. I thought the demo was superior to the album version. What is with the sleigh bells? I hate that it's on the album version. It's also on Hindu Times, She Is Love and You've Got A Heart of a Star. It's not a Christmas album. She Is Love, what can I say. After watching the unreleased music video (which reminds me of a tampon commercial) the song it's self is not that bad. It would have been a b-side in Noel's cocaine days. Gem's first song he offered up to Oasis was The Roller and Andy's was Kill For a Dream. I think Gem and Andy would have been better represented as songwriters if they used those songs. I would have loved to hear what Noel would have added to them musically. Heathen Chemistry was an interesting time for Oasis musically. It was the first time Noel started to sing 3 songs, Liam writing 3 songs and Gem and Andy contributing there songs. Love it or hate it. Liam only sings 3 Noel penned songs on this album, then 2 on DBTT and on DOYS. Heathen Chemistry for me was the last great b-sides era for Oasis. The songs didn't feel like table scraps like their future album b-sides. Liam comes out looking good here with his songs. After Little James how could he not.

Kill for a Dream is absolute garbage. Add lifeless production to that stinker of a tune and you'd have something that stands out as a horrendous earbleed even if it shared the same album as Probably All in the Mind and Better Man.

Well actually he sang on 3 Noel written songs on DOYS: Bag It Up, The Turning and The Shock Of The Lightning.

Kill For A Dream, Wind Up Dream and Dream On are the worst Gallagher related songs imo.

Heathen Chemistry makes people think Don't Believe The Truth is a lot better than it actually is.

Heathen Chemistry makes people think Don't Believe The Truth is a lot better than it actually is. true I was thinking though decent chart able Liam sung songs were really disappearing on those few albums Ive only really realised it. DBTT - Lyla and let there be love (maybe) DOYS - bag it up, shock of the lightening and the turning. HC - hindu times and stop crying your heart out. I mean really?, 2-3 songs per album of Liam singing Noels songs that actually mattered? the first 3-4 albums Liam was singing mostly all Noel songs which was the magic, they really abandoned that method, Noel talks about Liam singing his songs etc but he didnt really post SOTSOG.

Not as far as I am aware, I think it is what it is- A studio instrumental that never developed beyond that. It was actually missed by a fair few reviewers at the time as well, including painfully cool (and Sunderland born so is that an oxymoron? ) former Select Editor Alex Petridis in his review for The Guardian under the headline Yawning GloryOn the subject of the HC era back in 2002 Noel Gallagher claimed that one of the roadies had been filming them on tour, including causing problems at customs and such high jinks- Fox News 2002 (I know I know before the hard left start ) How good would it be to see some of that footage on documentaries or just as a general viewing to see how mad a day in the life of Oasis was up until that point though?

funny that the roller was destined for HC, feels like DGSS and HC were developed at the same time, both records feel mostly lifeless.

The only time I ever heard Noel speak of "The Cage" was when a reporter asked him and he said it is only on the album because he is contracted for a certain percentage of the songs written on each album. I think maybe Jim could confirm this more.

I think after (or during) the Standing on the Shoulder of Giants sessions Noel had an excuse to sing more songs as Liam's voice was failing him - and Noel was writing songs in registers that were hard for him to sing (not deliberately, I might add). Since Morning Glory (remember, Noel wanted to sing BOTH Don't Look Back in Anger and Wonderwall), Noel has always wanted to keep his best songs for himself. Since 2000, there are only eight Liam-sung Noel songs out of a possible 33 album tracks. and eight out of 24 Noel-written tracks released by Oasis since SOTSOG.

I used to think it was good because I thought Liam's voice still sounded good on it but now it kind of sucks. Little by Little is kind of cool by the way I always read stuff on here because I love oasis But never write on here, but I'm bored and thought I would. I'm 23 from Texas and all my friends know Wonderwall and like it but when I tell them they're are way better songs than that they're like dude your such a nerd, I told them that their first two albums are top 5 all time albums they thought I was insane but oasis are badass haha especially back in the 90's.

Welcome fellow Texan... The struggle of dealing with non-fans is real. Keep up the good fight. Who gives a tit what other people think anyway. --------------------- To the point of the post... Heathen Chemistry does not age well at all outside of maybe SYCHO and THT. Also, I've never associated NERD's with Oasis before. Weezer for sure, but never Oasis.

I think maybe Jim could confirm this more. Yeah I remember that. I'm sure it was mentioned around the time the NME gave the track "away" on free CD. Noel had to write something like 70% off the album tracks and Heathen Chemistry came up short so it was added as secret track.
