Anyway, it's been two days and the more I think about this movie, the more I'm pissed off that it was just A New Hope with different character. It's a fucking joke. I imagine writing the scenario went something like this: "Hey guys so let's use that same story but add some few shits to make it look like we are creative. Like: the main character is a girl and not a guy. Let's change the name of the rebellion and the empire to the resistance and the first order. The bad guy reveal isn't 'I am your father' but 'I am your son'. The DeathStar isn't a station that looks like a planet anymore, but it is an actual planet! ... Let's make billions out of it guys!" *round of applause in Disney headquarters* I still loved it but it really bugs me, if they had said from the beginning that it was kind of a reboot/remake, I'd feel less angry and cheated. I hope that after multiple viewings (I only saw it once at the moment) and when all the hype calms down it isn't what will stick out of this movie. I'll take The Force Awakens 7 days a week and twice on Sunday over that prequel bullshit between 1999 and 2005. Christ those movies were terrible. Hopefully Rian Johnson will avoid typical Abrams fanboy moments. For example, we don't need Luke in the middle of Episode VIII to go "No Rey, I am you father". You can see that situation already brewing. Please avoid that kind of reveal or do it in a different manner. PALPATINES BEHIND IT ALL!

I have seen Episode VII on monday the 21st of december and I enjoyed every single minute of it. Sure there were moments when I thought ....soft reboot. but its a damn well made soft reboot and Finn, Rey, Poe and Kylo Ren are really interesting characters and I have the desire to know more about them, so they did a good job. And that they used real props and handcrafted stuff, real landscape was great!
And there was never a star wars, where WAR was that intensive. the opening scene and that little blood on the helmet of Finn made the movie really dense. There is no need for overused space battles, cause in Episode III there was that "spectacular" shit but just that little blood and shaking of Finn was enough to let me feel the fear and desperation.

This is the Star Wars equivalent of behind the scenes studio footage of Johnny Marr laying the guitar track down for Probably All In The Mind.

After the debacle of the prequels I think they deliberately played it very safe this time. Hopefully they intend to go into new directions with the sequels/spin off films. But there's every chance Disney will take the safe route and milk Star Wars' ample teats as much as possible. Seriously, why else did C3PO have a red arm if not to sell new toys!?

For me..
Empire Strikes Back The Force Awakens The Phantom Menace Revenge Of The Sith Return Of The Jedi A New Hope Attack Of The Clones
Really dont care how controversial that order is. Phantom menace was the first one I watched and I like the nostalgia. I won a sticky tongue Jar Jar in a packet of crisps and played the playstation 1 game when I was younger. I never got into a A New Hope either, bored the shit out of me tbh. And I dont like Ewoks.

For me its:
1. Empire Strikes Back 2. The Force Awakens
3. A New Hope 4. Revenge Of The Sith 5. Return Of The Jedi (incredible final scenes but too much slow crap to begin with)
6. Attack Of The Clones 7. The Phantom Menace
The top two are almost interchangeable I fucking love the new film so much

Liking PM over it makes no sense to me. I guess it's because it's not nonstop action like current action movies. Jedi was my favorite when I was a kid but I'm sure it's because it's one of the first movies I remember seeing in the theaters.

Empire Strikes Back - What's to hate here? Solid all the way through.
A New Hope - I have complaints with its structure as it feels like two movies and it may not be very action enthralling, but the characters are so well done as are the sets and overall plot. Pacing is perfect.
Revenge of The Sith - I dislike some of the filler, like Grievous, and Obi-Wan riding that stupid bird lizard thing. Otherwise, it perfectly met my expectations. I only wish Count Dooku would have been used more.
The Force Awakens - The biggest problem is the writing. People have been watching this since 1977. Even so, it does bring in its own charm. Good new personalities with a little mystery behind some of them. Some of their backstory was lacking or they were underused, but it's a solid film. Entertaining all the way through. It has great action, and many tense, emotional sequences. Honestly, it's a toss up between this and Sith, but seeing as I've only seen it once and was less impressed, it takes the lower position for now. With time and further context, that may very well change.
Return of The Jedi - Fucking Ewoks and entire Endor sequence annoys me. Also hate Admiral Ackbar and lots of the silly creatures in Jabbas palace. Everything else is amazing.
Attack of The Clones - I thought this captured the Star Wars feel pretty well. The romance plot is grating to watch. And the main battle is boring between Dooku, Obi-Wan and Anakin, while Dooku and Yoda are completely ridiculous, but other than that, it's a solid action, adventure film for me.
The Phantom Menace - The worst of the bunch. The silliest of the bunch. Characters aren't very good, even if they are likeable. And the silliness is absurd. Even the podrace sequence, which I find pretty exciting, is made less so by the cheering crowd and stupid baseball announcer sounding aliens. Not to mention the stereotyped characters and nightmarish jar jar binks. The plot could have been so much better. Good lightsaber battle. Interesting politics from Palpatines side and that's about it.

one other thing about the prequels that should be noted is the waste of potential in darth maul, he couldve been a solid villian for the trilogy, especially since he killed qui gon, they couldve built on obi wan trying to hunt him down or something instead hes hardly featured in episode 1 and then is killed off just as we get to see him in full swing, they then replaced him with the much less interesting count dooku.
hes probably the one character people actually quite liked in the prequels yet they did nothing with him.

Few people have ever said a bad word about Maul. He was cool and different. Plus wasn't CGI which was/is an emerging trend. He was used everywhere for promotion. Nobody thought he'd be a one and done character. We were robbed. Why not have him make it out of Episode I and give something for Obi-Wan to chase down in the future movies? Missed opportunity.

one other thing about the prequels that should be noted is the waste of potential in darth maul, he couldve been a solid villian for the trilogy (maybe even of had anakin kill him in episode 3 to assert his new position as darth vader) instead hes hardly featured in episode 1 and then is killed off just as we get to see him in full swing, they then replaced him with the much less interesting count dooku. hes probably the one character people actually quite liked in the prequels yet they did nothing with him. for me he started anakin to young and the yippee makes me want to burst my eardrums,,jar jar was really annoying and pointless even though in later films he's a staple in the events that take place the clone army and giving the chancelor unlimited powers in the senate i mean wtf?? in a new hope obi-wan tells luke the force surrounds every living thing and binds the galaxy together etc etc only for the prequels to make out its midi-chlorians i mean come on lucas make your fuckin mind up its either around everything or just certian peoples blood streams the whole virgin birth was bollocks aswell,,but couldnt agree more on darth maul a total waste of a good opportunity,,dooku was only there so lucas could have christopher lee in a star wars movie one of the true screen legends of all time and he came across like it was written like stale shit. obi-wan bangs on about luke's father and how he was a good friend yet in eps II and III all anakin done was wind him up and not listen etc prequels were a overblown mess of cgi and bad acting by great actors on the vid below check out the guys face @ 45seconds in to me this sums up all of it

Empire - a perfect sequel. very tastefully done on all fronts from soundtrack (meteor scene chase aahh so good) to direction, to plot, to character development. its really fantastic.
A New Hope - Just think if this was a one off it'd no doubt be considered a top 10 film of all time, if not top five. It's really an amazing film, sometimes its my favorite, but Empire's execution is just too well done. Amazing acting, superb pacing, and really great character introductions
-----
then its a massive dip in quality to me to be honest. Those two are legit classic films. The rest vary from very good (Awakens) to pure shit (Attack of the Clones). Here's how'd i'd rate them out of ten.
Awakens - 7.5 Return of the jedi - 7 Menace - 6.5 Revenge of the Sith - 6.5 Clones - 4

I think not using darth maul throughout the trilogy is a big reason they feel so over the place for me because theres no constant villian, dooku only turns bad towards the end of episode 2 and then is killed off at the very start of episode 3, they literally couldve kept darth maul throughout episode 2 and then let anakin kill him at the start of 3 to allow his transition to take place, they had a pretty basic (but effective) storyline there of obi wan having a real reason to go after him and they just pissed it away. guess it wouldve taken the focus off the darth vader back story (which the prequels were basically about) but even so like I mentioned they couldve built vadar in that maybe anakin was able to do what obi wan couldnt (defeat darth maul) and allow hayden christensen so spout more poor lines about he was stronger than obi wan.

(One of my favorite sequences from the saga) Or the mysterious bounty hunter arc? The clones? Obi-Wan's pursuit of Jango Fett? Count Dooku and his connection with Sidious, Sifo-Dyas and the clone army? The Battle of Geonosis? That's all stand out material to me.
