Never saw the film. Don't know why so many people like the song. I've only listened to it a few times and literally had to struggle to stay awake each time. It comes off as Noel doing a really bad attempt at being Morrissey. I give it a very generous 2.

This is the best thing Mick Jagger ever did besides Gimme Shelter and Exile.

First of all, I don't dance. Music to me is something to either be experienced in full in a dark room with great headphones or speakers or something to have on in the background to enhance the mood while I do day to day things. That's it. I'm not saying I have anything against him making dance songs, but its utility as that is meaningless to me.
In fact, one of the things I always thought most of us liked about Oasis was that they had the nerve to more or less just stand there all the way through their gigs and let the music speak on its own. I don't want to see Noel turn around at fifty and start shaking his skinny butt on stage trying to make us forget how bad this song is after that.
I don't see the connection to any of the songs people have been naming. RAW? RWI? Those had peaks and valleys. He let those songs breathe. Maybe Lyla because of the siren being so tacky.

Clearly, Holy Mountain. ITHOTM is such a throw-away track - the lyrics to the first verse are actually good, but the second verse is a throw away, plus the nananas. Holy Mountain is fucking epic. I'm proper having this! How are the nananas worse to listen to or lazier to write than him just rhyming fell with spell and repeating it feverishly?

Holy Mountain fans: Finally he's made a joyous pop song. I hated Oasis MK2 and his first two solo albums and I've just been hanging on for the past twenty years for him to write Some Might Say again.
Also Holy Mountain fans: If you don't love this song it's because you're afraid of change and you should move on with your life. Sad!

Round Are Way used stream of consciousness lyrics to paint a picture of life in working class Manchester.
Holy Mountain is the song version of Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch and screaming about Katie Holmes. There's no subtlety in that repetition.
SHE FELL, SHE FELL, RIGHT UNDER MY SPELL SHE FELL, SHE FELL, RIGHT UNDER MY SPELL SHE FELL, SHE FELL, RIGHT UNDER MY SPELL SHE FELL, SHE FELL, RIGHT UNDER MY SPELL
HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY JOOOOOY!

Lukewarm to it. I like it as a fan, but, if he wanted this to be the first single to draw attention from people who aren't in his base, I'd think this would be something off the wall and sort of meant to get people talking and go viral. It just looks like a standard pop art with saturated colors music video ... so what?

I can see where Noel was coming from with this but I just feel it fails in what it were trying to achieve. All he's had since the split is "Noel is not coming out of his comfort zone" and, to be fair, he was going to do that with AA but that fell apart. So now, Noel has tried to head in that direction but, my problem with this song is, it feels like its trying too hard to be different and it somehow ends up sounding like something nowadays U2 would sing (which isn't a very good comparrision.) I fear for the rest of the album if this is the lead off single. Sure when I first heard it, I was like WTF but now I've listened a few times, it's ok but it's still very poor in comparrision to even his solo stuff (leaving Oasis to one-side) Much more so with It's A Beautiful World. I expect to find plenty to like when I hear the full song, but has anyone addressed the obvious yet with how similar it is to Beautiful Day?

Okay ...
20 or so listens later I'm starting to like it. I haven't lost my mind like some of you, but I'm seeing its appeal. For those of you still struggling, pretend you're an adult in 1963 and you're hearing She Loves You for the first time. It has that same annoying, almost creepy over-exuberance, and if you were in your twenties or thirties then you probably would have had that same "the fuck is this shit?" reaction ... I would have to be honest.
I'm just very interested to hear how in blue fuck this is going to fit with the stuff that was in the trailer.

All these aspersions cast on those of us who don't like it. I like Bowie and Prince plenty. And classical and jazz and reggae and just about anything else. What if I just don't happen to like this one shitting song?

As someone who is used to listening to "psychedelic" or "experimental" albums all the way through as a journey, and was eager to do that with this album after the video preview , I don't like this at all. I think this will be like listening to Dark Side of the Moon or Kid A for the first time, getting pulled in by the ambience, and hearing Wheels On The Bus in the middle of it.
As to people who don't like it being accused of having limited taste or expecting the same old stuff, I think that's a lazy point. You can't just tell someone you don't know why they don't like something we've only heard for a day, that's ridiculous. I can appreciate, if not necessarily like, pretty much anything. But I don't want a tongue in cheek novelty song to be part of this album.
As to the reactions it's getting here, happy for all of you, but the people saying things like it's better than anything since Be Here Now or it reminds you of the Definitely Maybe b sides ... if you're not trolling, it just goes to show how different we can all be. At least now I understand why so many people hated Mucky Fingers.
And despite all of that, I'm going to be patient with this song. Wait and see how it fits on the record. And hopefully it draws new people in.

You're saying, if I were to sit and listen to all the Oasis\Beady Eye\NGHFB\LG albums back to back, how would I arrange them to flow in the sense of telling the story of Oasis a la soundtrack?
I don't think I have that much time on my hands anymore.

I got the Paul Weller Live Two Classic Performances DVD so I watched the Hyde Park concert last night to get ready to see him next week. A review on Amazon had complained that there was too much camera switching and boy was he right. Not more than five seconds tops on any shot the whole show. Otherwise a good standard gig from that era.

I know Tom put on some great shows. As I said when we lost Chris Cornell, I need to make a list of all the people I want to see live and go see them, because one day it will be too late.
He was one of the first artists I got into and his music was there for some big moments in my life. It's hitting me just now as I write this. Ugh, this world sometimes.

My advice - get on eBay and get yourself a nice vintage player. Of course you'll then need an amp and speakers, but trust me the sound is worth it - these little USB decks sound shit and will probably damage your vinyl. I never did much research on turntables but I'm going to go ahead and second this. Older audio equipment in general tends to be better made. I have a Technics.

The most statuesque, boring, dull, lifeless participant that the band ever had. By a hell of a distance. He was attractively tall and dignified, I'll give him that.
