Fans of Neil Young's guitar heavy work will be pleased to learn that the Ragged Glory (1990) album will be re-issued as a 2CD with a whole bunch of songs that have never been heard before from the Neil Young Archives.
I just learned about this today
Ragged Glory : Massive Discoveries in the vault! NYA12-14-18
Crazy Horse’s ‘Ragged Glory’ album will be twice the size in its next release. J. Hanlon has found more of the Crazy Horse album from 1990. Listening to these tracks is a real head scratcher. They are equal to anything on the existing record, maybe better. Possibly, the thought at the time was to have a single album and not include the songs from the last half of the unique ‘set oriented’ recording sessions.
Those sessions were unique because the band played a set of songs twice a day at Plywood Analog for a couple of weeks, then went back, listened and chose best tracks after the two weeks were up. The Ragged Glory was picked from those tracks. The same tracks were never repeated in a recording set, played only once as set. . . . and the band moved right on to the next song. No repeats. This approach took ‘analysis’ out of the game during the sessions, allowing the Horse to not think; thinking is deadly for the Horse.
After the songs were played enough so that the band was sure they must have the takes, the Horse, having a great time, kept playing other songs. . . Five songs, with two versions of one, and one long extended take of another, yielded another 38 minutes of Crazy Horse classics, mostly undiscovered and unheard before.
Ragged Glory II, the double album, will be announced as a stand alone LP in vinyl, CD and High resolution digital, probably released in 2019 and possibly delaying release of other announced projects.

Also got Be the Cowboy by Mitsky. Haven't listened to this one yet but it's supposed to be one of the best records of 2018. I picked it up from the library. Anyone heard it? I have no idea what it's supposed to be like. But I'll listen to it tomorrow if I get the chance. I've heard it and it's in my top 2 for 2018. A really great indie rock album with a lot of catchy and down-to-earth melodies about being lonely and wanting love. Is it much to write about? Is it anything that hasn't been done before? No, and no, but it's a leap forward sonically for her and one of the greatest albums of the decade, from a solo female artist or otherwise. I really like it too! It's female singer/songwriter with some nice fuzzy guitar parts and a lovely post punk feel throughout. I was intrigued from the time I put the cd in and saw it was 14 tracks in 34 minutes. Iggy pop spoke highly of it and I took notice. Would you recommend her previous albums?

Incidentally, did anyone read Where Did It All Go Wrong: Oasis's Millennium Meltdown (or whatever it's called)? Any good? I've got it, it is good though I'd hoped for more focus on the 1998-2000 years and the book spends a good bit of time going through the pressure problems the band faced in 95-96 that led to people saying they needed time off before BHN. Not a long book but some good insights into the later years, follows nicely from Forever the People documenting the band through 97-98.

It was hardly a year to brag about in terms of vocals! But I really like the version of Acquiesce they did at Mexico City Palacio Deportes in March (I think) 2006. Liam's always struggled with Acquiesce since 2000 IMO but I really like this one, better than average considering the year. I believe it was also the last time Acquiesce was played. Do you have a link to this performance of Acquiesce? I looked it up but can't find it for some reason I'll email it to you, check your PM.

Just listening to the Lyon 2002 bootleg. Stop Crying Your Heart Out is fucking powerful! Liam sounds incredible there. I loved "Hello" from that one too. One of my favourite oasis gigs for sure.

It actually was. It seems to me this decade was a bit of a non-starter for its first five years, and then in 2015 everything went bonkers after ISIS rose to prominence and started chopping people's heads off and beaming the images around the world. And then there was 2016. Although people inflated its apocalyptic overtones a bit, focusing too much on the flurry of celebrity deaths over those twelve months, there definitely was an abnormal amount of bad news that broke that year. The aftermath of the political, cultural, and societal fracturing that seemed to come to a head in 2016 then seemed to play out across 2017 and 2018, making it seem to some of us like we were stuck on a loop, forced to contemplate--and argue over--the same issues again and again. Although measuring time in years and decades is largely symbolic, they've done research into how peoples' behaviours change coming to a major marker on the calendar, such as the beginning of a new decade, and how this subsequently alters the direction culture and society heads in. It will be interesting to see if owt changes this year, or if it will just be more of the same; more division, more outrage, more tribalism--all that fun stuff we've come to expect from the second half of the 2010s. I've definitely felt that. Add to that the increasingly creepy and invasive nature of internet surveillance (namely google and Facebook but of course there are many others), all in the name of advertising to collect and sell personal data.

I'm Free. Happy New Year. Best to everyone. I'm sure I'll repeat this message tomorrow. Unless I'm having too good of a time to care That version of Whatever, along with HTWA and the Masterplan just makes me so proud to be an Oasis fan. How I wish I could have been at that gig.

Wtf I've never heard this before! I remember the day we first heard this, back in the summer of 2007. I was so surprised it was a full band performance with Liam on vocals. I remember expecting it to be Noel doing a Who Feels Love demo kind of thing.

That said, I still absolutely love that feeling of discovering new music that really makes an impact on you.
I didn't want my last post to give the impression that I don't care to listen to anything new. I'm just increasingly short on space, money, and time for records. I can handle being short on money and space for records but it really hurts me when I haven't got time to listen to at least 1 album a day, all the way through. I rely on that to fuel my day.

what would you say are some records every vinyl enthusiast must have in his or her collection? Oh man I've been wrestling with that question for nearly 15 years, trying to pick up all the classics along the way. Eventually I realized there are always more "must have" albums and I felt like I didn't have the time to enjoy the records I really loved already because I was trying to fill in all the gaps for ones I'd never even heard yet. As a result I'm a lot more picky about what I'll buy, especially on vinyl where the cost is much higher. I tend to just buy new albums by my favourite artists now.

RHCP's 'Stadium Arcadium' on vinyl. Sounds so much better than the CD version as this was mastered with dynamics. It wasn't compressed/brickwalled like its CD and digital counterparts. Was this a result of your recent raise/vinyl spending spree you mentioned in the other thread? I never knew you were a RHCP fan. What songs stand out most for you with this version of the album?

Do they sell them in America? Roots is easily one of our most popular clothing makes in canada. Everybody loves the beaver. Don’t know. Mine’s an actual The Roots sweater. 😮 The Roots SweaterOh totally different thing then! Not what I thought you were referring to at all. In Canada you see Roots clothing everywhere. Their logo with the beloved beaver is one of the most common things you'll see. www.roots.com/ca/en/homepageYou'll definitely find sweaters to keep you warm, even in frosty Florida

Have you heard the new album Shiny and Oh So Bright? Just curious as to your feelings and reaction, if you have. I have not. I was never really into the Pumpkins. I like when unexpected collaborations happen. Never thought of this happening. Is it good? Better than is expected! I am a big fan but I didn't really enjoy the last 2 albums. This one features 3/4 of the original Pumpkins. At 8 tracks and 32 mins it's very easy to digest and warrants repeated listens. If you want 2 tracks to try: March in' on Silvery sometimes (ghosts)

I loved The Cardigans, especially their real poppy Brit pop period that would go from 1994's Emmerdale to 1996 First Band On The Moon, until they wanted to be taken a bit more serious with 1999's Gran Turismo up until their last release (that period does have it's fans). But for me, the best album they ever did was 1995's Life, so many gems from that album that it isn't even funny. They were always for me a strong band when they accepted their pop roots. The Manic Street Preachers did a song with them, "your love alone is not enough". But I suspect you knew that already. I think I remember you were a Manics fan, long before I was. New information for someone else then!

The only mistakes prior the As You Were release to me was having Chinatown as the second track released I always thought Chinatown would have made a great b-side to complement Wall of Glass. Just sounds fitting as the flip side, as a taster of the album to come.
