Listened to it a couple times so far and, although I prefer TINASP, this album is quite good. The 80s sound suits it, it feels like a powerful and heavy album (maybe given it’s 60 minutes) without being too much to digest in one listen. Last Frontier and Portland Rocks are my current favourites, followed by I Came to See the Wreck.
Seeing them in September at the Roundhouse. Very excited about that!

Jake Bugg setlist, in case anyone’s interested. I only know his first two albums but I really like him. Sometimes you can close your eyes and feel like you’re listening to Lee Mavers. Just my opinion…I know Noel’s compared him to Dylan and the Arctic Monkeys but I get a La’s/early Bee Gees feel from him. Strange creatures There’s a beast and we all feed it Trouble town You and me Seen it all I wrote the book Taste it Slumville sunrise Simple as this People of all kinds (?) Two fingers Lightning bolt Track 10 is "All Kinds Of People" I put my Wolverhampton recording up last night, it's not the best as nobody was paying attention to him and talked all the way through his set, but better than nothing live4ever.proboards.com/thread/94508/jake-bugg-2024-03-wolverhamptonThanks, I look forward to checking it out!

Anyone in London, there’s a massive load of Oasis 7” and 12” singles at Reckless Records and Sister Ray on Berwick street (the famous MG cover street). I was there Saturday and bought a few things. What’s there is:
-Sunday morning call 12” (£100) -little by little 7” (£40) -who feels love? 12” (£60) -little by little 12” (£75) -some might say 12” (£80) -shakermaker 12” (£80) -D’you know what I mean 7” (£25) -don’t look back in anger 7” (£50) -I’m outta time 7” (£25) -I’m outta time remixes 7” (£25) -the shock of the lightning 7” (£25) -falling down 7” (£25) -some might say Japanese import CD (£25) -standing on the shoulders 2000 press (£100) -dig out your soul fan club box set (£40) -bootleg 12” of a European BHN 97 gig (£20) -DM, MG chasing the sun boxes (£200 each) -Liam’ WMWN one sided 7” singles (£10 I think)
I bought 7” copies of SCYHO and SMC as well as a 12” of RWI. I found as much in 1 day at these two shops than I have in 23 years of searching in person!

He was fucking incredible vocally at the Troxy gig, easily his best vocals out of all the gigs I've been to I was there too, just been busy and haven’t had a chance to post my thoughts on the gig. I was in the standing pit up front a few rows back, Squire’s side. Apart from the length of the gig (which I was aware of), I was very happy. It was really tough to choose highlight songs because the whole thing was terrific. They played enthusiastically and Liam sounded great. The crowd reactions to “I’m a wheel”, “raise your hands” and even the colours part of “rainbow” were very memorable. “Mars to Liverpool” also got a great singalong reaction. I was surprised by how much even “love you forever” and “I’m bored” came off extraordinarily well live. Like I said, the only problem was the gig was too short! I didn’t mind that they weren’t going to play Oasis or Roses songs but another cover of two (like “are you experienced?”), a new song to make it 13 at least would have been very welcome. And not unreasonable given prices. I feel it’s easier to throw in another couple songs than charge less. But otherwise, terrific night.

Interesting. Would have been the only time Shakermaker was played in 1997 then, apart from Noel playing it opening up for Paul Weller. Pretty sure he did it at Brixton Academy along with the first performance of Half the World Away.

I forgot how nice it is listening to R.E.M. I like them (not love them) but their last two albums, Accelerate and Collapse into Now, were fantastic. Loved those.

Listening to COYK now. It’s still my favourite Liam album.
That said, I’m referring to a modified track listing of the album.
More power Diamond in the dark Don’t go halfway Come on you know Too good for giving up It was not meant to be Everything’s electric Wave I’m free Better days The joker Oh sweet children
The cover of Bless You deserved a proper b-side release.

Liam and JS Stiff little fingers - no turning back Buzzcocks - modern Stereophonics - performance and cocktail's Idles - tangk
Still unsure how I feel about the Idles album. I love the first track, the fifth (A Gospel?) and the last one. It’s very subdued compared to previous efforts and I don’t mind that at all. It’s just I’m not sure the other songs are hitting me. Maybe not yet.

Anyone bought the “digital pressing” with the 4 demos? Worth it?

Wow. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I didn’t think it would be poor but I didn’t have much expectation of it either. The first song, “raise your hands” is okay, doesn’t do much for me. I knew what kind of song “mars to Liverpool” was but I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. Instant hit. “One day at a time” features the best line of the album (“you should have fucked me when you had the chance”) but “I’m a wheel” is like a proper Dr Feelgood bluesy riff rocker.
Same with “make it up as you go along” and “you’re not the only one.” Also liked how well “mother natures song” closed the album.
Even the songs I didn’t expect much out if due to their terrible titles (“love you forever”, “I’m bored”) were actually not bad at all. Can’t wait to listen again!!
Favourites: I’m a wheel Make it up as you go along You’re not the only one Mars to Liverpool

This isn’t my usual go-to music but I’ve lately been feeling the urge to check out some big artists and albums from the UK 90s that I never heard (or much of) before like Portishead, Massive Attack, Chemical Bros, Primal Scream, the Prodigy. Enjoying the journey so far. I have to say Massive Attack’s Mezzanine album is tremendous!

I was thinking it must be about that time. Can’t wait to hear it!
Even thought Fat Pop isn’t one of my favourite Weller albums, I find I still listen to it a heck of a lot, especially during winter.
Almost time to do another “rank Weller’s solo albums” round…

The album comes out on the same day the new Ride album does I think, so I’m very excited to pick both up. Haven't heard a single track off either album yet.

SOTSOG would be a sneaky good reissue. The bonus material would be off the charts. Demos. Acoustic. Alt takes. Live stuff. Completely agree. But I have a feeling it’ll go over unnoticed sadly.

Another terrific rendition of an Oasis classic that turns it into something different. I know Noel loves LBL and it always gets a great reaction at gigs but SCYHO like this should be a setlist regular too, or at least alternated with LBL.

The last few weeks I’ve been coming back to Noel’s “wandering star” quite a bit. It started when I began communicating with this girl I was going to go out on a date with as something in a comversation ticked that lyric “whatever the cat drags in/ belongs to us.”
I’ve always felt it was just an okay song, kind of an inferior version of “If love is the law” but lately it’s just hitting the right spot and many of the lyrics make me feel so understood lately, in the way that Noel, Liam, Oasis always do.
I watched the 2019 Jools Holland performance of it (it’s live debut I think) and it nearly brought out all the emotion that’s been packed so tightly down for the last while so I can keep on. Felt dangerous to let it out at a deep level but I was home, it was safe. Still nothing came out. I felt it deeply.
/overshare?
Anyway, this is what I’m talking about:

No luck for me either. Either of the two London dates would have been fine (though I always wish gigs were on a Friday or Saturday night…I’m getting old). Ticketmaster UK says low availability for the Troxy but I’m getting nothing.

I just ordered the CD online (I always prefer to pick up in store on release day…) just so I could get a presale code for the Kentish Town Forum or Troxy gigs. It seems I’ll be out of luck then. Haven't received the presale code yet.
On the plus side, I did recently get tickets to Stiff Little Fingers and Richard Ashcroft so that’s a couple more I’ve always wanted to see. Possibly Idles in a couple weeks too.

Every January I tend to go on a massive Neil Young binge. I’m a big fan and am especially fond of his work from 2000-2014. His 1969-79 work is always recognised, as it should be and his 90s work was a true comeback after an interesting and explorative (for hardcore fans only it seems) 80s period. But in the 2000s we see (at least I feel) his work climbed a step higher, melding the best of his folky and ragged rock stylings, with his tendency to explore interests and concepts successfully.
Anyways, preamble aside, my top NY songs post 2000
Distant camera Gateway of Love Going Home Bandit It’s a dream Living with war Angry world Walk like a giant All of those dreams My hometown (Springsteen cover)
The songs I’ve chosen are all from 2000 to 2014. The last ten years have been interesting but not as brilliant as this period IMO which I rate as my favourite NY era.

One Way Road was played live acoustic as part of the radio session they did in Toronto 2005, I’m pretty sure. Idle, Talk tonight, OWR, wonderwall and another. Never mind I see you mentioned it. That’s what I get for skimming.

Not linking the profile to avoid some people going there to harass the original poster but... woah The picture quality is low but I can figure out some names A CD from the DBTT sessions with The Roller on it. A 2006 CD with 13 acoustic songs. "4 ANYONE", maybe Oasis demo? Wow! Probably loads more out there too. Thanks for sharing!
