So surreal people are actually arguing over what theoretical reactions to scissor-players would be.

People’s perceptions of who has been treated worse over the years is clouded by who they prefer musically, naturally. Very true but even taking that into account its been blindingly obvious.

Why does there seem to be a different set of rules being critical over Noel Gallagher amongst many Oasis fans? During the Beady Eye years, the venom thrown Liam and Co.'s way was pretty ferocious. Noel's latest numbers (save Fort Knox) are alarmingly bad to these ears yet many want to treat him with kid gloves on these parts. My question is why? I have my own theories but would like to hear some thoughts from you. Welcome to this fucking forum is all i can say. I havent bothered to read alot of the replies on here but i can tell you now theres many of us who think exactly what you say. In short, more people want Noel to succeed than they do Liam. Youll get obnoxious, condescending, and personal responses if you question it and youll just learn to accept it if you want to keep posting here.

As I stated in an earlier thread. If the song was any good, the scissors would get a pass as being funny. The song is filler at best and just shows pure pretentiousness. That isn't what made Noel a superstar and was sure to piss off some long time fans. Stop giving him a pass for doing stupid shit that Liam would be hung on a cross for. Let us say we disagree about the song and leave it at that. As for Liam, didn't he use a Chinese fan (or something similar) as a prop? I for one don't have an issue with that either. It's just a bit of fun. That "fan" was especially made for Liam by a fan and member on here so please don't go there... he brought it on stage as an appreciation for his fans, which I think was an awesome gesture. And besides, it's not just the "scissors", to me it's the attitude.

I ain't no newbie. Then youll know the answer to what youve asked. If you want an artist to do well, naturally youll look for the positives in what you are listening to. With Beady Eye, we will appreciate Four Letter Word, the Roller, Flick Of The Finger etc and the other highlights and appreciate the fact we had Liam making music. Others who clearly didnt want him to do well or werent bothered, would be quick to point out the lows and the apparent lack of sales. Likewise with Noel now. The same names who were shitting on Bring the Light are the first ones to now say yeah but the album will be different im sure for Noel.

I've read all the posts in this thread and as I expected it ends up with comments like "this forum this, this forum that". I've been on this forum for nearly 13 years and I've never seen (former) Oasis fans divided so badly as it is now. It's sad.
I've always been supporting both Gallaghers, but if I prefer Noel, I don't have to bash Liam and if I prefer Liam, I don't need to bash Noel. I'm on this forum for music. I love music and I want to enjoy music, both Gallagher's and non-Gallagher's. I've never ever wished Liam or Noel to fail. Why would I? If so, I would have left this forum ages ago.
We've been in the situation like this before on this forum. A couple of years ago webmaster and moderators got so many critic and many members abandon this place. We've been working even harder since then to make this place pleasant and healthy for every member. Yet we still get negative comments. Unfortunatelly we can't make everyone happy. Cheers.

I believe it’s all down to expectations...
Most of us knew Beady Eye’s music was going to be pretty average, and it was, then add to that the announcement that Liam is doing a solo album and me (and im sure many others) were cringing with dread, and because of his previous output it would have been par for the course to criticise him as he’s never had a phenominal songwriting record to defend..
It was always, for better or worse....just easy to criticise Liam...
Which is why, when his album leaked track by track last month, it was a revelation, i have been in attendance on this forum for all of the MKII leaks and lets be honest with ourselves - it was always an anti climax and a bit of a let down because naturally we cannot shake our lofty expectations of Noel’s wonder years....each track that leaked from Liam’s album took us all by surprise because we were experiencing what had happened in the previous years in complete reverse...
I love Noel and always will, and admittedly would have been in his camp if i had to choose after his first 2 solo albums, but i can’t help but notice that because of the stratospheric expectations he has mounted upon himself with his own genius - he has become like the emperor with no clothes, i truly believe many people genuinely love his new output, but i also genuinely believe many are scared to admit to themselves it’s just not that good...
Hence it being much harder to criticise Noel, myself included, although with counselling, medication, time off work and scissor exposure i’m slowly getting there...

The different standards applied to Noel and Liam are actually easy to be spotted when you take your time to read professional reviews of NGHFB's and BDI's material. If you look at the Metacritic scores of DGSS, BE, NGHFB and CY, you'll see they're very similar. The "BDI is shite" narrative only existed among Noelinistas.

That's the one thing that really annoys me here, that it is perfectly acceptable and even hilarious to use "like Beady Eye" as a synonym for shit. You know, some of us here used to love that band and still do.

I'm not going to claim they're getting the same amount of both as that would require a careful study by an impartial entity, but I'd bet it's pretty balanced, as there are sections of the forum catering for both. You're completely right, but in the end the reason they didn't get the same amount of hate/love was that more people liked HFB compared to BDI - the end. I'm not even saying HFB was better than BDI because that's taste, it's just more people preferred HFB.

It seems like people on Noel’s side are touchy when it comes to any criticism at all and it’s some how spun into you being a bad person but yet it’s ok to say w/e about liam and how he shouldn’t do his brothers songs and all that. Without Liam those songs wouldn’t be what they are. I love them both so I don’t have a horse in this race but people need to lighten up when someone says something about Noel. Everyone can have their own opinion. I think some people are just pissed off liams doing so well for some reason

May as well chip in, cos why not😀. I think it's not so much different rules as different types being attracted to different things.
Noel's talents are clearly in songwriting composition instrumentation and production, basically technical aspects of the music business. He therefore attracts fans that are more interested in these elements and often are involved professionally in the industry.
Liam on the other hand is much more about live performance and having a good time. He naturally attracts the more non technical fan who are just interested in being entertained.
The difference in levels of criticism is, I would suggest, because Liam fans just see Noel as less entertaining (or boring) and these comments are easily dimissed as uneducated and exchanges tend to be short lived. Some Noel fans who are more knowledgeable technically tend to have far more detailed opinions of why Noel is better and can write reams of boring drivel on the subject. They also think that because they have more knowledge their opinions are worth more and will tend to try and correct Liam fans or educate them, which tends to come across as condescending (which in many cases it is).
That's not to say there aren't many fans with more technical knowledge on here that can discuss technical aspects of the music and be informative and interesting without going down this road, there are and they are always interesting to hear from. We all know they people I'm talking about

What’s sad is I was attacked on here the second I reviewed Noel new songs in a mean and venumuse way when all I did was say it’s not good to me and it’s weird he would go that direction when he said before he hated that stuff. So it’s weird you can’t say your real thoughts. I also said I didn’t like some of Liam’s new stuff and that seemed fine with everyone so the double standards are crazy

You and anyone who thinks it has is at best being disengenuous and at worst, dishonest. The idea of Liam or Noel being criticized TOO much on this forum introduces the idea that there’s a limit to how much you should criticize someone or something, which is dangerous and stupid. People can criticize anything on here as much as they’d like. And if you make a smart comment towards somebody, don’t be surprised when they return the favor. How much of child do you have to be to think we should filter criticism in any way?

Criticism when genuine is absolutely fine, when its designed to get a rise out of people its boring and antagonistic and there was a lot more of latter in this part of the forum. And don't talk to me of limits to criticism, I've seen how you respond criticism, it wasn't dangerous but it was stupid.
