I like it. Just the ending doesnt go anywhere, which is a bit of a letdown because everything before sounds really good.

Bit of a step backwards into Chasing Yesterday territory (my least favourite), hopefully the next album isn't like this.

I can hear a bit of "I'm outta time" in the intro. I like it.
Chasing Yesterday is far and away my favorite Noel solo album. This could fit right in.
Solid 8 out of 10.

Wow, that was a real pallet cleanser after the unremarkable and plodding Gonna Get There In The End and Wandering Star (remember when this was hyped as some sort of Dead In The Water style emotional journey?!).
Really really lovely tune. Got me on first listen. The 'cast no shadow' lyric reference is apt as it is a light, dreamy and melancholic tune (always seems to me that if the composition avoids plodding drums, it will usually be alright...). First time that Noel seems to explicitly reference death I think? No Lock All The Doors style dad rock here, Noel acting his age and very reflective.
For Noel's traditional tunes, by far one of his very best with HFB - far better than the mediocre Chasing Yesterday and the majority of plodders that made up his debut. I've always wanted him to explore more of the experimental tendencies like he did with David Holmes (e.g. big widescreen technicolor sounds) but if he's writing typical Noel songs like this, then I'm also very happy.
This will go down very well acoustically.
8.5/10

See Noel's been thieving again - anyone else notice the strings are totally nicked from Andreas Johnson - Glorious?? Lol I was wondering what it was when I was listening to it then I saw your post. A bit too blatant.

Nice song. Noel could write these type of songs in his sleep. Effortless. Will you give it a go?

Listened to it once and my first impression is that I like it, it's a classic Noel song. It's surprisingly grim though. Noel's usually all about love and life and this is about someone taking their own life. It's the darkest he's been since Alone on the Rope.
I'll play it on repeat today I can tell you that. I am looking forward to hearing Flying On The Ground which is apparently more pop.

I think it's a good, warm, classic Noel song, but a notch below his best solo output 7.5/10 (voted 8)

Verses are very, very good, 'Good luck in the afterlife' lyric is very strong and stuck in my head but I find interlude kinda boring, doesn't fit that kind of song imo. Chasing Yesterday production is good. After two listens 6/10 but gonna be better

Nice tune but said nothing to me on first listen.
I think if you're going to include new songs on a "Best of" album they have to be really good songs, right up there with your best solo material. And certainly this is not the case.

1. Unremarkable piece of music. It will please Noel's groupies and easy-listeners though. I got the impression this might be the first time Noel is trying to address someone's passing away in a song? Don't go away is about the anxiety of someone dying, but this is more about mourning someone, "you'd gone to meet your maker, good luck in the afterlife". 2. The art design is appalling, tiring (is this still Gareth Halliday work?). And it strongly supports the idea this song is about death/afterlife with that tunnel of light. 3. Is Noel trying to capitalize on the covid zeitgeist? We're gonna get there in the end totally made me think that. If so, cheesy... Well aren’t you a ray of sunshine?

But it's new Noel and of course I will listen to it over and over ha ha

The "good luck in the afterlife" is a gorgeous turn of melody, as you say - classic Noel, that optimism and sadness. The chorus and middle-eight sections are a bit plain in comparison.

Nothing Adele about this, not like Noel Gallagher has not been trying to write pop hits for the last 30 years

Really lovely tune. I to came here to post about how close it sounds to Glorious, funny there's already like 4-5 other posts on it. Thought I might have been the only one.

The verses are brilliant. And it sounds really really good with headphones. Should be a hit, of course being 2021 it won't. Radio hit maybe.
