The ‘my oh mys’ really ruin it - and they aren’t even needed. This first one is especially disjointed. Couldn't agree with this more. It's like Noel ran out of time and settled/couldn't come up with something better that fit. Real bummer, as the song (and chorus in particular) is really strong otherwise. I think they work better on the live versions (not Jools) as he sings with more confidence and energy so the suspense of the chorus leads perfectly up to the My Oh My's. The studio version (or Jools which was recorded before it debuted live) doesn't capture this at all because he just sounds dull and monotone as if they've settled on a guide vocal recording.

I think they fit the flow of the tune just fine. People get stuck up on the weirdest things around here. Wandering Star is a great tune. Now if we could get the rest of Blue Moon Rising before Xmas...

Personally, I would have liked it more if he just left it out all together and let the music be the transition. To each his or her own, I guess.

Noel deliberately tried to write a ballad that wouldnt sound like his other ballads, the no obvious chorus and the "my oh my my" bit is the proof of that. I dont really mind it, but yeah if it wasnt there it would not change a thing.

Of course I am ! : I would say the whole middle eight (from the 'oh my' to '...we'll sail away' ) feels a bit rushed and out of place. I see two possible "solutions": either removing it altogether extending the instrumental part, or adding another verses/chorus cycle before it, so it becomes a relief before the final repeat (which is what middle eights are supposed to be for) Some day the world will recognize my songwriting genius !

Let's not forget these are throaway songs, i highly doubt Noel spent more than a day, recording included, on this song. As for your suggestion, if a melody or a song is perfect, it doesnt need a middle 8. Most middle 8 are shit, sound out of place just for the sake of it. It's like a change in key to repeat the same thing over and over again, which i really hate unless it's done well

He's done that one million times before, that's probably why he tried something different 😂😂😂

In fairness, I try not to include a middle 8 in my writing, always felt awkward for me.

Put me in the ‘no need for the my oh my bollox’ camp. Otherwise, a great song.

Sounds like a Keane B side That is funny on so many levels. Almost as funny as that time someone said Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders was shite - because it sounded like a soundtrack

Has anyone got the correct chords? Everyone’s all over the place on YouTube. Very inconsistent. For instance, is the second chord in the verse a full Em (as some say it is) or is it a C/B as it kind of looks on the live videos? Also, during the middle eight, what are the two notes that keep proceeding the G?
Thanks if anyone can clear this up!

Middle 8 goes C-F-G, just like the intro. Intro/Middle 8: G C-F-G Verse: C Em Am G Chorus: F G "Lift me up": Dm F G Capo 2 of course.

That being said, I love this song, whole different level compared to the other EP songs. A reminder why Noel is and remains my favourite songwriter.

I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet, but I think the 'My oh my' bit was lifted from U2's 'Stuck in a Moment': And you are such a fool To worry like you do, oh oh I know it's tough And you can never get enough Of what you don't really need now, my oh myEven in terms of the way Bono sings it - sounds like Noel trying to do the same melody in 'Wandering Star'.

Doesn't really do anything for me. It has a decent enough melody but it's somehow bland Noel by numbers.
