I haven't watched the Knebworth documentary as I'm waiting for the dvd. But I agree what was Noel thinking of letting John Square take the lead on Champagne Supernova epic solo at the bands Oasis's biggest concerts ever?ย And, I wonder if Noel actually regrets that now. I agree it was bad, I think both Weller in the studio and Marr whenever he played it with Oasis/HFB did a much better job But I don't think Noel regrets it, he doesn't see himself as a lead guitarist and more importantly he had one of his heroes up there at the biggest gig of his life playing HIS song, that's the stuff of dreams Oh for sure! I don't see a 29 year old star struck Noel going "No John, you're doing it wrong, here's how you play it" ha ha ha! He just let him do his thing, as he usually does with Weller and Marr. It's just a shame that that's all Squire could come up with. Even at that time when Noel played the Champagne Supernova solo it wasn't the version from the record since that was mostly Weller, but Noel's solo was better than whatever Squire did.

Yeah I don't think it was worth watching it in a movie theater. The mix between the fan interviews and the music is bad. So the music is really loud, which is cool, but then when people talk you can't hear most of them. And the sound comes from the front only so it's not as immersive as I thought it would be. I just don't go to the cinema and haven't been in years and I somehow don't think that the Knebworth documentary would have been shown here anyway. But I'm looking forward to watching it on dvd or if it becomes available on a streaming site which I subscribe to before the dvd comes out then I will happily watch it.

But I do wish that Squire had done a better job of it though than what he did.

Wasn't John Squire very sick and tired when he went to Knebworth or something like that?

I don't know if anyone already mentioned it in 40 pages, but, at least for me, the Roskilde 1995 concert is super overrated, way too much.

Not necessarily all that unpopular but I listened to DBTT in its entirety for the first time in ages lately, and man, that album just blows. I like Importance of Being Idle and POTQ, Mucky Fingers, Lyla, and Turn Up the Sun are good enough but not mind blowing, and the rest is just so damn uninspired.
For all the hate Heathen Chemistry gets, I might actually prefer it to DBTT.

She is Love has honestly grown on me, I used to hate it, but now it's "meh". Itโs Noelโs mediocre answer to Songbird. She is Love isnโt even close to as good. Why both on HC? Redundant, exactly like Oasisโ 2008/09 DOYS tour where they included both Meaning of Soul, and Ainโt Got Nothing in the same set list for the tourโs entirety. Whyโฆ.?

Put Liam on the WDIAGW demo, and I'd love it. I do like it as it is, but feel the album version is the weakest form of the song that we got - you can trace that back to the same dearth of singles that resulted in Sunday Morning Call being pushed. I think Noel half-knew that the album lacked an "anthem" and forced the song in that direction. The almost trip-hop melancholy of the demo is superior to the album version, which comes across like a remake of Amelie in which she's saving the world from aliens. Something wistful trying to be far too epic. Wow, not heard this before. Was vaguely aware a demo existed but think I never listened to it as I really don't like that song. So much better than the album version! Yet another missed opportunity from the SOTSOG era...

Whyโฆ.?There are about one and a half LAG songs that deserve to be on any Oasis setlist ever, and that's being generous. Noel's songs on the later albums are never actively bad, with enough highlights to produce well liked singles (Little by Little, SCYHO, TIOBI, TSOTL). Meanwhile LAG produced middle of the road, bland rock songs that should never have been allowed to be associated with the name Oasis.

Something wistful trying to be far too epic.ย Obviously SOTSOG was probably the most ambitious album, in terms of production and change of direction..although I wouldnโt call it ambitious at all generally, but in the context of the Oasis body of work it could be. But this demo to me is like a perfect example of how Oasis were very capable of good versatility in their music but then when it come to the final versions, probably started second guessing themselves and resorted back to piling on guitars and whatnot. They did the same with DOYS, according to the documentary. Then again, when youโre selling millions or albums, you will second guess anything that goes away from a winning sound. I wonder if Noel sometimes looks back and wishes he was a bit braver with some choices in terms of direction and production, especially 2000 onwards. Maybe thatโs why he just goes in any direction he wants now. oasis might be one of the only bands where some of the demoโs are more musically interesting than the final versions, especially around 2000 or so. Usually the demo is the basic version and itโs embellished for a final version.

I think Noel alluded to the fact in an interview from the tour that it was Liam who opposed The Turning (or Bag It Out, maybe both, can't remember) in favour of TMOS and AGN.

I always thought that Noel liked to have The Meaning of Soul and Ain't Got Nothin'. They are very short, and both up tempo 'rockers'. I do understand why they were played during the last tour.

The Meaning Of Soul is ok in small doses but as for Ainโt Got Nothing is a song which I never visit at all these days unless I'm listening to any Oasis concerts from 2009.

Be Here Now is great. It's the 'White Album' for a different generation. Liam's greatest studio vocal is on 'Fade in-out' and that song was dropped from the live setlist far too quickly. Gem and Andy are simply better musicians than Bonehead and Guigsy and would have nailed a live version more closer sounding to the album version

Not sure if it's an 'unpopular opinion' but I prefer Noel's older voice. Around Don't Believe The Truth, he changed it to something more restrained and nasally. Watching his recent Glastonbury performance was peak nasally voice.
Granted, there are some howlers pre-2005, like his foghorn act on Force of Nature, but the performances like below are something far far superior to his mid 2000s stylistic change.

I think we can say we like his voice more now, but that his vocals on like D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman, Sad Song, etc then are what makes those songs more special being what they're about to begin with. Like the Going Nowhere demo for this reason too.

Oasis have great songs. Lots of hits. But if it hadn't been for Liam to sing them - both on record and on stage - I don't think I'd ever become a fan of them. For sure I would not have bought the discography and I would not have gone to see them in concert.
