In the summer of 13 when Noel played in Dubai and Mad Richard was there as well, Noel mentioned something about Richard having a new album. Yet we are over a year later with still nothing from RA. Anyone know what is going on?

But is it a Richard solo album or that United Nations of Sound nonsense?

I've seen him with the United Nation of Sound 4 years ago. They were ok, but would really love to hear him solo again.

Yeah, I've read on a Richard Ashcroft forum that he finished recording a new album a month ago (just like Noel), and it will be released as Richard Ashcroft, not United Nations of Sound.

United Nations of Sound was rubbish. That Are You Ready tune (and video) was embarrassing. In fact, the whole United Nations of Sound thing was bizarre. Did you see the logo? Ashcroft with a ghetto blaster surrounded by doves of peace, laurel leaves and a Man from UNCLE style world map? I mean, WTF?

The best thing about United Nations of Sound was the production. It was much livelier compared to the last 2 Ashcroft albums.

The best thing about United Nations of Sound was the production. It was much livelier compared to the last 2 Ashcroft albums. Yeah I agree the concept of UNOS was decent. Richard is still a decent songwriter, he was once great but not too sure I can give that distinction anymore seeing has its been over half a decade since he has truly written anything noteworthy. Richards solo stuff has good songs on them but so many of over-embellished. He has always been a sensitive soul who writes great ballads but he's no longer "Mad Richard" anymore. Don't know if thats because he has found peace or lost confidence or whatever but his songs need some more of that burning passion and less of the MOR singer songwriting stuff. He has a killer voice and he has always fit in nicely with any sort of song that has a groove in it (Life's An Ocean, Music Is Power). In some of his earlier solo work he found a nice balance between the MOR singer-songwriter stuff and the powerful grooves that his pervious band had. I want more songs like Check the Meaning from him. That song just sweeps over you with strings like so much of his solo work but it is also propelled by a steady groove that keeps the song from becoming too watered down. If Richard is wanting to get back to the grooves I'm all for it but he should bring the songs too. He surely didn't on that terrible UNOS album. I have faith in him. He has written so many of my favorite songs.

I really didn't mind the TUNOS album. Only got it this summer. It's a lot more ambitious and upbeat than what we've come to expect from his solo records (which aren't bad at all but overproduced, overcooked, plodding too often). I was skeptical to begin with and the first few tracks (Are You Ready?, Born Again, America) proved me right but it got much better. I liked Beatitudes best.

I love for him to return to the giddy heights of early Verve period but after some average solo albums I am losing faith, although Alone with Everybody is a far better album then I remember it to be. He just needs to lay off singing about his Wife and kids, we get it he loves them. He needs to get that swagger back that made him the mad genius in the mid 90's.

Do you want some tracks like Are you ready? lahaine ? That was cringe worthy. I want tracks like he produced on Urban Hynms Manualex. Proper tunes that aren't boring that just blow you away. He hasn't produced but rather got rich and lazy. Even that Verve comeback was below par.

He tried to be down with the kids ( is there anything worse when a older rock star tries to do this) and failed miserable cause he couldn't write a tune, which is depressing cause he produced one of the greatest albums of the 90's.

He said recently that there will be new material in December. Let's see if this time that information it's true. I can't wait to listen the new album.

How can it possibly happen that he apparently has recorded his new album months ago, but you don't hear a single word from the man? Richard, come on, we have waited long enough. Doesn't he want to promote it?
