I disagree. I almost feel guilty about liking it so much, given how much I've been banging on about wanting Noel to do something different, but fuck it, there's no way you can improve that performance. And it's such a strong composition, I would say it's the best acoustic "E minor" ballad since Talk Tonight. The Dying of the Light has an amazing arrangement, but Dead in the Water is the better tune. It's everything If I Had a Gun should have been.
I love it too, but i want both live and studio. Good songs need to be recorded properly. For eternity.
I dig the Nebraska vibe. It was about time Noel recorded a song in such a stripped down version again. It's like saying Talk Tonight isn't recorded properly.

Dead in the Water needs a studio version. Thanx.

I have the impression that Side B is gonna go down better on the forum as it sounds more like the Noel people know and love (but even at that, it's a new Noel).

On first listen, this is clearly Noel's most eclectic album (even vocally). Probably also his best solo album, but I'm gonna give it a few more listens before I make such a statement.

And the brass, which I didn't pay that much attention to the first time.

If you like Right Stuff, it's kind of it's subdued cousin but more melodic What kind of instrumentation? Noel on acoustic, clean electric for Gem (main riff), organ?

The verse starts like the ITHOTM chorus (exactly when he sings the title of that track) and is a bit meh in general, but the chorus is a total surprise and very uplifting. I had a little trouble identifying where the chorus was supposed to be...Was it the Stones bit? I would say where it starts with the ascending chord progression. It's like one long chorus.

I won't get tired of saying this: the chorus melody is much better on the live version. All it took was changing one note.

In that case European posters should say that the album arrives on Thursday Strange theory that Many shops receive the new release a day before the release date indeed, but they're not allowed to put in the shops/selling the shops.
But why do they advertise that? It's not like the customer can buy it on that date.
