If I remember correctly they destroyed this compilation the first time it was released. Maybe a 2.7 score or some shit. I’m pretty sure it was a 4/10.

Just imagine the demand if it was a MG tour. Would have been exponentially more difficult to get tickets.

Talking of Oasis gigs from the Dig Out Your Soul era, on the 26th October 2008 Oasis played their Electric Proms gig. There were a lot of great performances from that night. The massive version of I Am The Walrus is one of my absolute favourites, with Helter Skelter medley’d on to the end and that Bethoven bit.

Listening a lot to Travis (everything at once, 10 songs), the Smiths (rank, hatful) and Manics (send away the tigers, ultra vivid lament).

Getting to hear Listen Up, Fade Away, D’ter Wanna be a Spaceman, and Whatever (potentially) in the same gig - along with all the old DM favourites I’ve heard before a few times is just making me so excited. Same. Listen Up is my personal favourite (and my phone’s most played song period), and while I know Liam has done it here and there I’ve never seen it live. So im especially can’t wait for that. Me too. It’s probably my number 1 song if I had to choose. It hits hard and always resonates.

Such an odd take. The album is called The Masterplan and the song The Masterplan is on it. Instead, they should extrapolate every song on the record to celebrate it. Not a single song. I would love it if the full audio interview with Paul Du Noyer was released. That’s where the quotes from the liner notes come. There’s also a Masterplan promo CD I have with excerpts from that interview that lead into each song (though only 4 are showcased, can’t remember which ones but Rockin Chair is definitely one).

Everybody seems to forget about its existence. Bang average. Totally throw away..never even think of this song. The b sides were really poor too Should have been released properly with the Liam vocal version as a b-side.

It’s still my favourite Liam album. I love everything on it except WIN and Moscow Rules.

No luck, not getting anything. Would kill (not literally) for a London ticket in any seat. Would even be able to travel out of it’s a weekend. But nothing is coming up… 😞

If you have too much money, REALLY like “Mucky Fingers” and want a one-sided single version of it, Flashback Records in this London is the place to go http://instagram.com/p/CyixbxDMx9F That’s a great place, I go there all the time. They always have great stuff. Last one I saw was a 12” of Shock of the Lightning and an original 12” of Ride’s Carnival of Light.

The songs okay, fine as an album track but I think I was expecting more out of a comeback single.
That said, I do really like this band and am excited for another album.

I was thinking today (and have thought many times over), if Oasis never released any of the singles they did, they’d still be my favourite band, by far. I might never have heard of them if Wonderwall hadn’t done its thing - but there are just so many personal favourites that weren’t singles at all.
I’d love to hear your Top 10-15 Oasis songs - not including Time Flies songs.
Mine:
Listen Up My Big Mouth Cast no shadow Rocknroll star It’s getting better man Hey now D’yer wanna be a spaceman? Fade away Good to be free Talk tonight The Masterplan Gas panic Let’s all make believe Carry us all A bell will ring (I made a post about this…)
I’d be very tempted to add the Twiggy remix of I’m Outta Time but that does break the no-singles rule.

I just got tickets to see Manic Street Preachers (and Suede, who I’m also happy to see but really excited about the Manics!) next summer.

On this day in 2008 Oasis released their final album Dig Out Your Soul. I’ll never forget finding it a day early in one of my favourite record shops. I didn’t question them on its release, I just bought it and took it for a drive in the car!

[/b] Eventually, Oasis get to do their performance, suddenly deciding that they ought to do a run though of three songs. In the absence of a local PA, the Central Park masses are treated to an instrumental versions of "Live Forever," "Cigarettes And Alcohol" and a new song called "Listen Up." [/quote] Thanks for sharing that story. It makes me wonder (again) when exactly Listen Up was recorded. One source I recall says it was March 1994 at Sawmills Studio Cornwall, but I think there’s a possibility it was recorded a few months later in July 1994 at Maison Rouge studios (along with the Some Might Say full band Noel Vox demo I believe). Anyone know?

The common consensus is that the best album The Jam made was All Mod Cons. It’s a brilliant record but for me, it’s follow up, Setting Sons, is my favourite.
It’s an album like no other, hitting some hard notes as it captures a very interesting concept: how our relationships (of all kinds) influence our identity, and what happens when those relationships start to dissolve, fade away, or break down. That’s something that happens in life but I feel never gets talked about. Yet, here we have Paul Weller at - what, 23 years old? - writing songs about midlife transitions and the pain these losses give.
Thick as Thieves is the best case in point - a lifelong friendship that one day changes. The relationship fed the narrators identity and now that it’s gone? Now what? It’s the same thing with the breakdown of a marriage and domestic dream (Private Hell), an imaginary relationship that fuels an identity (Girl on the Phone), a work relationship and identity (Smithers Jones, Little Boy Soldiers). Class identity in Eton Rifles. Lots of it about outgrowing friendships - Burning Sky, Saturdays Kids. One of my personal favourites is Wasteland, which I believe should have closed the album rather than the fine but out of place Heatwave cover. I’d have put When You’re Young on at track 5 instead. It fits perfectly, thematically and sonically.
My Setting Sons edit:
1. Girl on the phone 2. Thick as thieves 3. Private hell 4. Little boy soldiers 5. When you’re young 6. Burning sky 7. Smithers Jones (I prefer the WYY b-side version) 8. Saturdays kids 9. Eton rifles 10. Wasteland
If you’re a fan of the album or curious about it, check out the demos for this album. The solo Eton Rifles is worth it alone if nothing else.
Maybe I’m reading into it but that’s what this album speaks to me. It’s potent stuff and I am constantly astounded as to how Weller could have detailed all this at his still quite young age.
