Shockwave finally enters at #22, out of top 20. Wall of Glass peak was #21. Great numbers! Damn was hoping it'd outperform WOG even though it is a lesser tune

Shockwave (No.22, 17,299 sales) is the introductory single from former Oasis & Beady Eye vocalist Liam Gallagher’s upcoming second solo album, Why Me? Why Not?. The track was helped by the release of a 7-inch single, which accounted for 2,571 of its sales, and debuts atop the vinyl singles chart.

I iust heard it again today in the car. To me it sounds like 4 different songs forced together, with a bitter interlude about a fucking weasel shoehorned in at the end. The verse transition to the bridge sounds a bit like the weird pitch shift in Strawberry Fields Forever except it's 2019 and errors like this shouldn't happen. Also, the production and mixing is amateur at best. The cheap flanger/jet plane effect before the last chorus is supposed to give a 3D effect to the song but instead it sounds cheesy and sounds like a kid playing around in Audicity.
To improve the song I would've:
1. Mixed the different parts better together so it doesn't sound "copy & paste"
2. Deleted the "HEYS" in the chorus and put in a short slide guitar riff instead
3. Deleted the "weasel" middle 8 and done a proper guitar solo
4. Given it an actual 3D effect before the last chorus
Rant over.

The only thing I don’t like about this song is the “HEY” moments. Reminds me of the Kaiser Chiefs. Cringe when I hear them. Replace them with a guitar squeal and this tune would be a solid 8

The 'hey' line is just so not Liam Gallagher/Oasis, it just screams modern audience.

The 'hey' line is just so not Liam Gallagher/Oasis, it just screams modern audience. Good. Who wants him to be preaching to the converted? If he's gonna do rock n roll I'd say a modern twist is essential.

Think we only need to start worrying about modern vocal gimmicks if he starts adding tiresome audience baiting ‘woahs’ into his songs.

The Hey is cheesy but its there for when he does it live so the whole crowd can shout Hey. Its the same with like all the "Oi's" at the start of TNT by AC/DC, sounds corny af but it will be a good live tune.

The 'hey' line is just so not Liam Gallagher/Oasis, it just screams modern audience. Heys have nothing to do with modern or cheesy. They've been around since the dawn of R'n'R. This particular Heys are nod to 70's glam rock days, and Gary Glitter's Rock'n'Roll Part 1 & 2 first comes to mind... Also, great live shouting piece for the audience.

I don't have a problem with the "HEY" bit. It's a bit cheesy, sure, but it sounds good and it's catchy. My problems with the tune remain the bitter lyrics and the verse melody.

I jist think the production does not sound that good. Almost like puzzled together. Thebsound really seemmto change between verse and bridge. The song is okay but I think thrre will be better songs on the album for me. Shockwave should be alog dirtier. If you go kinda like BRMC then go full fuzz.

I like it, but this is the absolute typical example of what we will get when we are getting songs written directly for what these specialist writers THINK we will want.
It leads to patronising elements like the "heys" in the chorus. These people are sitting down and saying right, what does a Liam Gallagher audience wanna hear? What kind of songs does Liam himself like.
So bang, get a BRMC riff, put in another bit of Harmonica cos it worked with Wall of Glass and write a relatively catchy chorus.
It's good, but i dont think we're ever gonna quite get greatness from this formula. They'll be 1000x more passion and soul in the stuff that Liam has thought up. Calling it now.

It's the Star Wars Episode 7 of Oasis related music. Not all that original, specifically designed to please a broad audience, nothing groundbreaking but entertaining.

Shockwave has lost a bit of its luster for me over the past week. The concept of a bitter redemption rock tune is cool but it was already accomplished with Greedy Soul (a phenomenal tune) in the last album. This is Greedy Soul 2.0 to me.

Agreed 100% hopefully the next single is a much stronger effort.
