I know this is not OOPS and im sorry if this has been said here million times before but i didnt know about this guitar on 3:53. Noel is just playing All the Young Dudes mellody on guitar, you cant hear that very well on normal mix.

Thanks for these, I especially love Bonehead's Bank Holiday - until now I hadn't even realised Bonehead's vocals were all the way through the song, even if they are terrible!
I like at 2.07 how Bonehead sings "...all my big friends and Liam Gallagher" - made me laugh! I really missed that sort of gang atmosphere after Bonehead and Guigs left.

icebreath, must admit I hadn't seen those videos - thanks very much for the link. Another OOPS clip attached - Weller's solo from Champagne Supernova, taken from the Brendan Lynch mix. View Attachment Been a huge Weller fan myself, this is very interesting to listen. Thank you so much once again, davidjay.

Soundcloud tells me that the tracks are private. To link a private track you need to use the "share" function

I tried processing some of the other demos from 1993. Alive almost cancels to nothing when OOPS, showing it's basically mono on the CD single. On the first demo of Columbia (from the 1992-3 demo tape, kindly shared by NoelsOasis back in 2013) OOPSing the track changes the vocal balance and makes Noel's "it's not quite acid house" chant clearer at the end. Attached is an out-of-phase clip of Noel's "It's not quite acid house" chant from version 1 of Columbia, filtered to make the speech a bit clearer. Can't quite make out what he says at the start of this clip though... definitely fits with Noel's memory of being high as a kite when they recorded this. One of the lines sounds like "can't half build a wall" or something, very strange haha. Thanks again to NoelsOasis for sharing the tape originally. Not Quite Acid House clip - OOPS.mp3 (655.95 KB)

Last OOPS clip from Columbia demo 1 is another chant (doesn't sound like Noel to me, so perhaps it's one of the Real People or maybe another sample). Hard to decipher but to me this sounds like someone yelling "and he stands upon the line" or something similar. Columbia - demo 1 last speech sample.mp3 (191.05 KB)

Clip of Bonehead's Bank Holiday out of phase. You can hear excerpts of Bonehead's take more clearly across the mix. Bonehead: The thing that'll stay with me is Bonehead's Bank Holiday, the song we recorded as the extra track for the vinyl. I remember Noel strumming it out - this really quirky song with really poppy lyrics. And then he says, "I want you to sing it," knowing I can't fucking sing. So Liam takes me down the pub to get some Dutch courage. Two pints turn into six. Soon I'm in double figures. We come back at midnight, legless, and there's Noel and Owen, waiting for me to record my vocal. The lyrics are written down, but I'm too fucking drunk to read, so I've got Liam holding me up, holding the lyrics in front of my face. We're making up the words. Everyone's crying with laughter. Months later I got an envelope through the post with this cassette. It just had BBH written on it and it was five hours of outtakes of Bonehead's Bank Holiday from Owen. I still play it a lot. It's this snapshot of the band at its most harmonious. (MOJO June 2005) Always had a special love for 'Bonehead's Bank Holiday'. One of the most 'pop' sounding song that Noel ever wrote. I reckon had Bonehead actually sung it, it may have been considered somewhat of a legendary song among Oasis fans, even had it been sung very poorly, ha. Imagine if he did it live. A special 'Bonehead Segment' just for a laugh... would of been great. In fact if they ever did reunite someday, that'd be the thing I'd most like to see. Would be a magical moment. They should of made it a bonus track on 'WTSMG', 5 minutes after 'Champagne Supernova' had finished, just a jolly wtf moment. It's a great tune - and it'd be fantastic to hear live. It really conveys a laid-back, carefree vibe. Love the guitar right at the end as well, to me it has a real 60s beat group feel.

I've used this on my Oasis remix albums quite a bit! It's a neat little trick. Another great band to do this with is the Beatles because of the harsh stereo panning. I also have a method for getting OOPS tracks in stereo (allowing further isolation) if anyone's interested! Yes, I'd be interested in that - didn't realise it was possible in stereo! Cheers. Alright I'll post a couple of the most interesting clips and a more detailed explanation probably tomorrow... I've got finals all day today!

good work! since this thread's for the (great) geeks - they seemed to have muted the snare on Columbia at 4m. probably re-recorded it.. c'mon Tony! Well spotted! It's still Tony's drums there but all the reverb added to the mono backing track disappears at the 4-minute mark, just before the sampled chant enters. Tom S explained to me that it's likely they were "short of faders on the mixing desk and they had the reverb unit on the A input and then quickly switched to the B input for the sample (hence the reverb disappears)." My thanks again to Tom for his insights on this. Another point here is that Tony's timing will have been spot on here, so as to sync with the looped chant that closes the track.

Notes on some others I tried processing in case it may be of interest. She is Love OOPSed - isolates the keyboard / organ pads and handclaps. The rest of the track goes, leaving only a very faint trace. Chemical Brothers - Setting Sun. This track is mainly mono - so OOPSing it leaves you with parts of Noel's vocal (apart from "I tell you it's just too bad") and the siren-like wailing sound that runs through the song Flashbax - mutes Noel's vocal and leaves an instrumental that highlights the guitars, keyboard and percussion, especially in the chorus. Carnation - Liam Gallagher and Steve Cradock - OOPS leaves you with Liam's vocal (trimmed on one line due to a panning effect on one word) plus piano, some acoustic guitar, lead guitar, and various sound effects. I also tried this process on some 60s classics. Hendrix - Hey Joe (mutes Jimi's vocal and emphasizes the amazing backing vocals) and the Kinks - Waterloo Sunset (reduces the instrumental backing and emphasises the lead and harmony backing vocals. The latter are usually panned really wide on the normal stereo mix). Beatles recordings mentioned earlier are obviously great to check out using OOPS as well. There's a good article on this here. www.beatlesagain.com/btoops.html

A couple more, as requested: Stop Crying Your Heart Out: soundcloud.com/m-car/scyho-oops/s-7advMThis is really brilliant, it's a piano/strings mix with some very faint Liam vocals in the background! Do The Damage: soundcloud.com/m-car/dtd-oops/s-Puxx7Noel's voice is still present, even if in the background, but you can hear better the backing vocals (which are great) and the SOTSOG-style choir (love this!) In The Heat Of The Moment (clip): soundcloud.com/m-car/ithotm-oops-clip/s-lf0KUYou can see that Noel is going more experimental with this track: I hear a Kraftwerk-like synth bass and the bells definitely remind me of Ennio Morricone's soundtracks...

I surprised more people haven't commented on it's striking resemblance to New Order's 'Blue Monday', given Noel's track record of 'borrowing' from other musicians.
