This is not OOPS but I think this thread might be the best place to post it. I love the outro of Some Might Say. Actually, who doesn't? The clip includes only the vocal track (Liam + backing by Noel), extracted from the multitrack version of the song. It's interesting to note that after the " Woo!" the reverb keeps going for more than a whole minute. Amazing stuff! It won't be new to many of you but it's still worth posting imho Some Might Say (outro, vocals only): soundcloud.com/m-car/sms-vocals/s-1NHnZ

Liam was on a completely other level. Reverb was cool to hear, gave me that 'Lovers In Japan' vibe.

Went ahead and uploaded this following Carlober. It's DLBIA mixed from the multitracks, without lead guitar and vocals. I OOPs'd the mellotron/acoustic guitar/rhythm guitar track, but kept the bass and drums in normal in phase stereo. Makes the track sound very orchestral.

Great work with that DLBIA mix, it's wonderful.

Reviving the discussion with an OOPS mix of Be Here Now (the track), as requested in another thread. What we're hearing here is basically the rhythm guitar with some drums and the tambourine. Nothing groundbreaking, but interesting nevertheless. Be Here Now: soundcloud.com/m-car/beherenow-oops/s-iQF0c

Brief aside to the main topic - I think it's interesting to see how quickly spectral extraction technology is coming along, allowing for elements to be separated from a final mix. I don't have access to the right software for this, but hopefully in time it will become affordable for home use.
At the moment parts extracted from a mix like this tend to suffer from certain artefacts (similar to lossy MP3 encoding) but it's amazing that the process works as well as it does. And I'm sure these issues will be reduced as the technology improves in the years to come. In this mix the vocal has some heavy FX applied for the remix, which hides the extraction artefacts.
YouTube member Deepsky did a great job making a stereo mix of Love Me Do using spectral extraction techniques. This is one of the best up-mixes (if that's the right word) I've heard.
Imagine spectral extraction used in tandem with OOPS... you could potentially pick out lots of parts hidden deep in a stereo mix like that.

Hey there, im trying to do this using Audacity - after importing and splitting i get two tracks - in order to make the "invert" option availble i must Edit->Select->Select all, but then the invert applies for the 2 tracks. so should i just delete one of them after the split? and if so' which one?
many thanks!

Don't use Select All, just double click on the waveform of one of the tracks and it will select all of that track only, which you can then invert

Just leave one track unchanged, one track inverted and click play, done. If you delete one of the tracks, you're just hearing the mono version of either the left or right channels (which isn't that interesting, more annoying than anything imo from experience with broken headphones ), but for OOPS, you just need to invert one track and play them at the same time. What happens is that anything that plays out of both channels (centre-panned) will be cancelled out when only one is inverted, leaving only the stuff that's only in one channel (check first post on this thread for better description). If you invert both, that does nothing really because when you add them together you still get the same amplitude, just a different sign which means nothing to speakers. 1+1=2, -1+-1=-2, still total amplitude of 2. Invert one and you get as in the first post, 1+-1=0 or -1+1=0 for centre panned stuff which does make a difference.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must admit - the final outcome is very similar to what happens you apply "reduce vocals" in a free program called "GOldwave"

Random aside to the topic - this month's issue of Sound on Sound magazine has a fascinating article on vocal extraction.
It has extensive detail on phase cancellation, mid/side processing, and spectral extraction techniques.

I just had a go at OOPSing my Amazon mp3 of the 2016 NG Rethink of DYKWIM. You can mainly hear strings (those strings!!), Noel's backing vocals and the drum loop in the background. Needless to say, it's fucking amazing. D'You Know What I Mean? (NG's 2016 Rethink) [clip]: soundcloud.com/m-car/dykwim_ngrethink_oops/s-DKRqg

A friend of the forum (who wishes to remain anonymous) made this edit and sent it to me. Applying the OOPS treatment to the Mustique Demo of DYKWIM mutes the drums, bass, and vocal. You can then add to it the vocal track by Liam from the Rethink version. Basically what you get is a stripped down version of the Mustique track with Liam vocals on top of it, which in my opinion sounds pretty good and can give you an idea about what a Liam-sung demo could ever sound like! Again, I didn't make this so all thanks go to the anonymous friend, you know who you are! D'You Know What I Mean? (Mustique Demo) OOPS Mix + Liam Vocals:clyp.it/0si0coek
