I had a thought this morning about the whole "this should have been the third album" thing that even Noel says now. In hindsight, it's easy to say and it's true but for The Masterplan to be their third record, Oasis' full history should have had to be different. Because The Masterplan only exists because it's a b-sides compilation, that came after Be Here Now, with songs voted for by fans. Without these three things, it wouldn't exist, as it is. First, these songs had all been released in the past 4 years. So, to make an album out of these songs, they would have had to not been used as b-sides. Second, the songs were all recorded at different times depending on what single needed b-sides or when Noel was in San Francisco. If they had used any other song as a b-side, these songs wouldn't have been recorded when they were and with the members of the band that played on them. For example, there's a good chance that Whitey's would have been drumming. But Tony was perfect for the songs he played on that ended up on The Masterplan. Whitey could have played them, sure. But imagine Headshrinker with Whitey on drums. It wouldn't have the same vibe. And I'm sure Noel would have found a way to add too much to Talk Tonight and Half The World Away if he had taken more time to think about them, etc. So the songs themselves would have been different. Then, there's the fan favorite aspect of it. Noel's an idiot sometimes when it comes to choosing songs to put on a record, by his own admission. So I have no doubt we wouldn't have Stay Young, which Noel recently said he didn't particularly like, or Going Nowhere. And if it was a proper record, we probably wouldn't have had I Am The Walrus either. What made this compilation what it is is us, the fans. Those were, at the time, our favourite songs collectively. And if they hadn't been released as b-sides, we couldn't have chosen them and Noel would have ended up choosing the songs. Who knows what would have been on there. Lastly, Be Here Now was disappointing to many. And no one can argue that's it's not too long. But that was coming after Morning Glory. The Masterplan is a great follow up to Morning Glory. But maybe it's enjoyed so much because it came after Be Here How. Otherwise, it would have been received as a follow up to MG and probably a continuity of MG. People probably wouldn't appreciate it as much as they do. So it's easy to go "ah this should have been the third album instead of Be Here Now. But that didn't happen because of one decision. It was a perfect storm that gave us Be Here Now AND The Masterplan. Love this comment. I do want to chime in on the "Third Album" debate. I've always wondered if the B-Side Ourselves album mentioned by Paolo Hewitt in Getting High was true or at least was in the works. Clearly the idea was legit as this eventually became The Masterplan a couple years later but if the idea was already being proposed in '96, wonder what caused the idea to be put aside... Listen Up, (It's Good) To Be Free, Take Me Away, Headshrinker, Y'er Wanna Be A Spaceman?, Cloudburst, Up In The Sky (acoustic), Half The World Away, Fade Away, Talk Tonight, Acquiesce, Round Are Way, It's Better People, The Swamp Song, Rockin' Chair and The Masterplan. That is the proposed track list according to Paolo Hewitt, not bad honestly.

I wish Spaceman and Round Are Way were on the album instead The Swamp Song and I Am the Walrus.

With all the hoopla around The Masterplan, I got to thinking about what The Masterplan Vol.2 could look like, using b-sides from 2000's ... it's insane how good that would be as well. Not that Noel would ever get around to releasing it of course ...

Not that Noel would ever get around to releasing it of course ... Just from the remaining 90s b-sides left off The Masterplan you have a nearly 80 minute album. I literally burnt this to a CD for my car a couple of days ago! 1. Take Me Away 2. I Will Believe 3. D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman 4. Alive 5. Cloudburst 6. Whatever (I couldn't not include it, I had to use a radio edit for it to fit!) 7. You've Gotta Hide Your Love Away 8. It's Better People 9. Round Are Way 10. Step Out 11. Cum On Feel The Noize 12. Angel Child 13. Heroes 14. I Got The Fever 15. My Sister Lover 16. The Fame 17. Flashbax 18. Street Fighting Man

Street Fighting Man I did the same thing back in 2000 but with some SOTSOG b-sides which I called "Flashbax" and had used this picture for the cover: I had even worked on the running order, although I can't remember it fully now except for the first and last tracks. This was the list: 1- Full On (great opener) 2- One Way Road 3- Step Out 4- Whatever 5- My Sister Lover 6- I've Got The Fever 7- The Fame 8- Flashbax 9- Helter Skelter 10- Carry Us All (demo) 11- Round Are Way 12- Revolution Song (or "Solve My Mystery" as it was known at the time) 13- Just Getting Older (demo) 14- Acquiesce (G-Mex) (great closer, should have been the version on The Masterplan) I should note that this didn't include Let's All Make Believe because I had made a CD with SOTSOG that included LAMB at the end. Same with Be Here Now and the DYKWIM b-sides.

I also still have all of the original cd singles too so that's another reason why I haven't bothered to pre-order this 25th version.

Blood records sold out, so thats 15k guaranteed. Maybe 20k with other versions sold. Then a tiny bit with streaming.
You never know. Swifts album earlier this year sold 70k first week.
20k would be a huge drop second week but it could happen

So I just checked the length of the remastered album against the original one on spotify and they're identical at 1hr 6 mins which means either that the tracks are still edited or they've made a mistake - if anyone with a physical copy could confirm in the future I'd be grateful! I'm not buying this reissue if the tracks are still cut

There's a scarf that says "The Masterplan" on it An acceptable replacement of the tote bag.

Looks like they still gave us the shortened "Listen Up". Figured they'd replace it with the updated one from the DM reissue.

I'm not buying this reissue if the tracks are still cut This confirms the album wasn't actually remastered. The first three records during the Chasing the Sun releases were from original 1/2 inch master tapes. This is more likely the CD version with a EQ touch up and a minor limiter effect.

Isn't it more likely Spotify screwed up? The official store blurb openly states that the CTS remasters were used.

If I remember correctly they destroyed this compilation the first time it was released. Maybe a 2.7 score or some shit.

The new merch looks crap. But then the merch from the Oasis team always is so this latest stuff isn't surprising.
