Time for heroes.
We’ve all had our little wrestle.
Great bunch of dudes on here. Have a lovely and safe night.
If England win, I’ll be here and I’ll be insufferable. If England lose, I’ll be here to take the stick.
Stay amazing.

No matter who wins I hope this idea of having Wembley fully open doesnt leads to a spike in covid cases.

Congratulations England. I guess I can get behind the redemption arc of Luke Shaw.

Well, at least we're better than Germany!
But no, Italy deserved the win. Class team with a class coach. I'm just happy that Sterling ran the tournament, exceptional player who's silenced a lot of the doubt that he had around him going in. Stones and Walker also excellent all the way through.
WORLD CUP 2021 IT'S COMING HOME

I'm thinking england 3 Italy 2 got that wrong! Tonight I will dream of playing in a back three with bonucci and chiellini either side of me, absolute masters of defending, and after all the talk of diving we've had over the past few days a bit of praise for the referee, he handled it really well, and apparently he's worth near 12 million euros, brave man doing a thankless job, also kalvin phillips what a player, another I'd love on my side, unlucky england, well done Italy 🇮🇹

Always been a skeptic of "just on to shoot a penalty" substitutions. And Saka for the fifth? Compare that to Italy with Jorginho. Yeah I know he missed, but that's how you pick your penalty takers.

It's also good to have a bit of national self-hatred every now and again.
Stops you turning into Americans.

My poor boy Sancho. I just knew he was going to miss. Take away his confidence all tournament and then make him take a penalty. At least he gets a taste of what it feels like to play for man united.

Eurovision? Check! A Pixar film set in their country? Check! The 2020 Euros? Check!
That's some kind of a hattrick I guess!

It's also good to have a bit of national self-hatred every now and again. Stops you turning into Americans. That was the old America. In the new America we've learned to loathe ourselves just like any self-respecting fading nation.

Southgate as decent a man as he is should have a word with himself tonight. Putting that on 19 year old with what was available to him was an absolute joke. Really poor on his part.

Well commiserations all the same guys. I was wanting to laugh in the face of the Nat Front hooligans who broke into Wembley but they've got their ammo sorted because of the penalty misses probably, so sad for those players, especially Rashford and Saka.
Southgate should have changed things up ten minutes earlier when Italy were all over England. Henderson comes on and it wasn't nearly as dominant for Italy, so should have been brought on earlier. So passive and just not proactive enough in the phase when Italy scored, and the less said about the choice of penalty takers, the better. He's a good leader for the players, but I just don't think he's got the killer instinct and tactical mind to win tournaments. Italy though are just Italy - killer instinct, you never write that nation off. Don't know what it is about that footballing nation but it blows my mind the way they can have a habit of winning tournaments.
I do think the way the grassroots in England have been reformed and the greater frequency of talent coming through means that it will become the norm that England get to the latter stages (e.g. just look at the number of kids being picked up by German sides - the European heavyweights of grassroots reform). You've got to look at the way nations do things well, and I only look on enviously as a Scot who still sees club players lack of professionalism and technical skills lag behind the rest of Europe (seriously, junk food is still being served at Celtic despite Arsene Wenger revolutionising diet in England over half a century ago - that's how far Scotland is behind).
This was the case with England - similar across all British football for a long time - but we are now seeing a shift from such neanderthal ways for them.
Getting to an expanded Euros is all very well for Scotland, but it's high time we cut the crap from such parochial ways and looked outward to learn a few things and start developing top talent again like we used to.
