Listened to it today, still love it Could've done with another track after the first interlude, but it's one record that's aged very well for me
Now bring on album #4

Three years already, it doesn't seem that long. Mind you, it's now just over three years since Liam released his As You Were album. Crazy.

This was such a fun time to be an Oasis fan. Noel had his anticipated album and Liam had his first solo album. If you're a U2 fan like me, they also had an album come out around this time in 2017. Man...I can't believe it's been three years.
I agree with some people who say it's a little short and that the first interlude is placed weirdly. I think that's easily fixed by placing the first interlude after She Taught Me How to Fly and then adding in This is the Place after Be Careful What You Wish For.
Still, a great album. I remember these songs being the soundtrack to the second half of my Freshman year in college and blasting them in each drive home. What a time (I miss that a lot too).

Holy Mountain was a great first single, totally wasn't something any of us were expecting, along with that initial trailer of the album.
And even as someone who was looking forward to him doing more work with Amorphous Androgynous, think him scrapping ended up being a good move.

Thoughts.........................................
Damn fine album but I'd have made some tweaks!
- The alarm bell in "Fort Knox" should be 15-20 seconds, not 2 minutes long! Too high in the mix for my tastes. Sometimes it annoys me like crazy, other times it doesn't.
- I wish Noel got the 1940s sample for "It's A Beautiful World". Charlotte's spoke word part goes far too long and to me didn't age well. I wish Holmes and Noel worked out some sort of sonic landscape for that part of the song.
- Obviously the Interludes are sequenced too closely together! Part 1 should have come after "She Taught Me How To Fly" and Part 2 to end the LP. Ideally, Noel would have just kept it a combined piece and put it in the middle of the record to break it up and end with "The Man Who Built The Moon".
- I wish Noel didn't include "Dead In The Water" at the tail end on certain editions. He didn't need to do that. The record was very strong and didn't call for it. Plus I'm not a fan of this particular live cut. Sounds like he is singing in a bathroom. The song deserved a better representation. He's done better radio station cuts with much better vocals (RTL2 Acoustic Set 2018 spring to mind). I would be down for a proper studio cut.

It's not perfect but it's damn well as close as we'll probably get from Noel Fucking Gallagher. Aged incredibly well. And let's not forget that even Pitchfork was forced to recognize its brilliance. Oh, and the day Holy Mountain was released and the chaos that ensued was definitely the craziest and most entertaining day of my over 6 years of being on the forum. Good times and an even better song.

That sodding alarm. I love Fort Knox but barely listen to it because the alarm brings on my tinnitus. X

I was over the moon (heh) when I heard that NG was going to be moving in a new direction on this album.
I like a few tracks and I was really hoping this album would grow on me, but it hasn't. Not a huge fan. But I still think it was a smart move by NG.

I'd have dropped Dead in the Water and moved the interludes a bit, but overall, it's great. I'm glad he kept experimenting after it too, and hope that LP4 keeps going in whatever direction he sees fit.

Added to the fact it gave us the best live version of the Birds too. Yeah this is one of the reasons I love this era no matter how much hate it gets on SM I find myself coming back to live versions a lot, not just the WBTM tunes but older stuff as well What they did with The Right Stuff still blows me away

Honestly, it's not an album I often listen to. The best track on the record is She Taught Me How to Fly

Had a re-listen as it's the albums Birthday, here's some thoughts:
- Fort Knox is cool but hugely overrated on the forum. People listen to this regularly? Hmm.
- She Taught Me How To Fly might be Noel's best ever solo song, an absolute belter, production is awesome and the song exudes energy, I love it.
- Holy Mountain and Beautiful World both great aswell.
- Similar to DOYS, in that it has a strong first half and a crap second half. Love Is The Law, Black & White Sunshine are so tuneless and uninspired. The melody of the latter is particularly strange. Be Careful What You Wish For is just awful.
- The second half might be saved by Man Who Built The Moon. This shows that the trademark plodding sound in Noel songs can be something incredible.
- Dead In The Water is a Noel classic, should've been included.
For me, this album lacked the trademark Noel "magic" I think (which is why I still massively prefer Chasing Yesterday).
Although overrated on this forum by many, it has its good points, particularly STMHTF. If he could take the best bits of this album for the next one, but with a nod to the other two albums, album 4 would be perfect.
I definitely think there is evidence of people gushing over it simply because it's "different". But also there is people on the other side who pan this album for the same reason, mostly the Liam loyalists. You can't trust either of these types, it's not one way or the other. The reality is, it's nowhere near perfect, but it's got some pretty great songs.

Re-listened today.
Love every second on it. Love the alarm... it's so iconic... love the "round sound" of the whole album, love Holy Mountain (didn't like at all when I listened for the fist time!) it's a bit muddy ok but so happy, love love the transition from Be Carful (love love love) and Black, love the DRUMS, love Noel voice so different and various ... as I said: Best Noel solo Album by far.
And Live the songs are sooo good. Aaaaaannnnd best band (Gallagher Related) live I ever saw... period.
Amazing artwork as well.

Listened to it yesterday and loved it, heard new bits and it's aged well. A really wonderful record that's got a great companion record with all the Eps put together. That's two albums from Noel Gallagher in two years, cant complain.

The thing I like about Dead in the Water is that, with the album being set up like a film score, Dead in the Water is like the song that rolls after the ending music and as the credits scroll to the end. It's there for those who stay around and those who stay around are blessed with it. I wouldn't have it any other way, to be honest.
