^^ this. Critics of music/movies are the worst. If you can build your own opinion you don't need to read any of that bullshit. As a film critic, I just want to chime in that I think most people flat out miss the point of criticism. Critics know you have your own tastes. That's an assumed fact. I can only speak from a film critic stand point, but it's a critic's job to analyze the film through a few lenses: historical trends, the general agreed upon style of the genre and filmmaker, the language of filmmaking, and the societal/cultural conversation (whether political, environmental, racial, etc) That's to say, a critic's job isn't to tell you what your taste should be. It's to judge the work of art within a paradigm, leaving you to choose to read it to gain a greater understanding of the art within the context of a larger critical discussion. Lastly, what qualifies someone to be a critic? For one, criticsm is a tough job. We don't get to solely watch or listen to what we like. I watch 250-300 films (new releases) a year (in total, Im probably around 400 films a year, in general). There's a lot of bad in between the good. And we don't have the luxury of turning it off in the middle. Critics have consumed more of the art they're judging than anyone in the population and are the most knowledgable to that art for that fact other than the creators themselves. Most film critics aren't paid very often, lack health insurance, and have to pay for a ton of stuff out of their own pocket. And maybe 5% of critics make enough money for criticism to be their only job. Most work day jobs. That's to say, it's impossible to be a critic and not really love the art you're examining. Apolgies for the long post, but there are so many misconceptions about criticism because so many people internalize what we say as if I called you out by name in my review, causing you to take what im saying as a personal attack on you. What I and most critics write is completely separate from want you think. So yes, you decide what you like. No critic ever said differently.

After my long post about the point of criticism, I will say that this basically didn't give Noel a chance to succeed (though, that's not really any reviewer's perogative either). Still, this is a clear damnned if Noel does and damned if he doesn't. Even with publications cutting back on writing space for critics (making everything harder), this needed two more sentences to be flushed out more.

Genuinely baffled as to why anybody would care about Liam or Noel's commercial success any more. After Oasis it was only really relevant when Beady Eye's sales fell off a cliff and created a serious doubt over whether Liam could still have a career at all. Now both can make music for as long as they want to.

250k views after 4 days for a debut for a new cycle. Ruh roh. A middle aged artists fifth solo album cycle? I'd hardly expect him to set the World alight Shaggy 🧐 😎 I mean, practical nobodies by comparison get more views than that these days. So it is kind of a big deal for his career. 10 years ago on youtube, that would have been just okay for a popular artist. I think it says a lot about the song, frankly.

This thread reminds me of the time when Ralph Wiggum of the Simpsons accidentally walks into the adult movie section of the video rental store, looks around, and says, "everybody's hugging...".
Thanks.

I don't expect any Noel singles that aren't in support of upcoming albums to do much numbers, to be honest.

I don't think it says anything about the song other than it's by a 51 year old artist? Noel is going to sell his shows and he's going to sell his albums. Music videos have a net-zero impact, especially for an artist of his age. I mean, Noel doesn't even try to push his music videos. He does the least amount of promotion of any artist out there. He just complains about hating doing them and says the next one will make him less popular in America. Why wouldn't he naturally have diminishing returns in terms of views, no matter what the quality of the song? The only one of his videos that had significant views was TDOYAM, and that was partly because his people clearly paid to get it on the front page of Youtube. tl;dr, Good Youtube views would be a happy surprise for him. Nothing more, nothing less.

Some of you need to stop sending the dick pics, take some marijuana and alcohol, and get lost in the beat and pass out some train tracks.......BSD has a nice drum and bass groove, which compliments the bong.....
Thanks.

Thanks. I totally agree; too many armchair producers and armchair managers around here analyzing the EQ's and the YouTube views. It's very un-Oasis-esque to be honest.... Just enjoy the party....

I don't think BSD is terrible, it just does nothing for me at all. Although, I think it has potential to have a decent remix, and Noels remixes are always class.

Was a 6 on first listen, up to a 9 for a few days, now I’m arsed if I never hear it again; 5.

I vaguely remember posting that last night, that was posted about 10 or 12 beers deep.....I apologize for any emotional distress I may've caused you. God bless.

Same for me, I gave it a 5 at first, then enjoyed it more the next few days but there's only so much to like in this song (good bass line but the melody is too limited) & I quickly got bored of it. I don't think it's bad, just an OK song that I won't particularly want to listen again; it's no "Ballad of the mighty I" for example.

Thanks. Nah, it’s just a basic beat done on a drum machine with a bassline that partially rips off David Bowie’s fashion but is not as good. Then there’s the nicked, terrible ‘and it makes me sweat’ line which NG will say is the INXS (🤢) ‘influence’. It’s shite.

BSD currently has 533,000 streams. That comes to $2,133. Its been a week.
On the flip side, Taylor Swift's new single has 77 million streams on Spotify($300K) and another 161 million on youtube in one week.

I've learned from experience that if you have to explain and rationalize why a song is really good, it usually really isn't.
I haven't seen this much talking up of a tune on L4E since the release of Bring The Light.
