Really fun record. 9 spoken word tracks which is way more than I was expecting. I'd heard the band originally was going to get their pal Cillian Murphy to do them (mind blown!!!!) but then decided on James' grandfather.
My favorite type of Coral record is when they are being weird and infuse their sea shanty brand of rock. Sure the acoustic stuff is pretty but I love when this band kinda freaks out like on their debut and The Distance Inbetween. You know, sea shanty meets spaghetti western type music.
Right now I think CD2 is my fav. A tad looser. I love the concept of this record and can picture it all in my mind this fictitious Coral Island.

I really like it.
Bit of a joke making it a double album though. It’s 50 odd minutes long, could easily fit on one CD or, with some of the interludes trimmed, one vinyl record.

I really like it. But of a joke making it a double album though. It’s 50 odd minutes long, could easily fit on one CD or, with some of the interludes trimmed, one vinyl record. X Yeah the 9 interludes of voiceover work really scales back the double album idea. Some of the best song titles (Welcome To Coral Island, Arcade Hallucinations, End of The Pier, The Ghost of Coral Island and Telepathic Waltz) on this album ended up as non songs. Bummer.

I think there’s only been one Skeleton Key remix before so hard to know what to expect: The remixes are of BSD and TITP, two of Noel’s most modern sounding tracks. I’m definitely intrigued! X

Too acoustic for me. I was really looking forward to this after the reviews. Hive me invisible invasion and distance in-between anyday. Miles better imo of course 😜

I really dig the album. After all the hype about it being a double album I feel it is too short though. I made a playlist by removing the spoken word tracks and it is 45 mins, exactly one vinyl record long. Each half could easily have taken another song or two. I’m dying to get a digital copy of the bonus EP to see if any of those tracks fit in the main album playlists...

The spoken word tracks really beef up the overall volume of material since there are 9 of them! I actually don’t mind them since they are isolated to their own track and I can easily remove if needed. It would have been amazing if they did manage to get Cillian Murphy to do them but their grandad did pretty solid. He didn’t ham it up. I find British seaside culture fascinating. We still have 6 more new Coral songs to go. The Dinked vinyl EP and the bonus track they included with anyone who purchased the Coral Island companion book. This band went all out for this project. I respect it. The album format “might” be dead but no to these guys. Those extra tunes could have made the LP a proper doubler.

Just purchased a exclusive deluxe digital download with 5 acoustic tracks and a special remix by Sins of 4 featuring Weller and Steve Cradock for 4,99 Euro (1 Pound discount). A bargain!

I would love to purchase the bonus EP separately, but they don't do that which is a shame!
