I remember listening to it for the first time and thinking that the album was seriously going off the rails after track four but those middle three redeemed it massively; the strongest three song sequence on any Gallagher related release since Be Here Now, it's a very strong emotional journey and flows brilliantly.
A solid end to the album too, but a shame he couldn't keep up that emotional intensity of the middle three songs.
Best song for me is While The Song Remains The Same. Not often that people quote Noel Gallagher lyrics but I absolutely love "It's a shame how a memory fades to grey/We let love get lost in anger chasing yesterday". It has that melancholy of his 90s b-sides without replicating anything from that era, and is in fact the best post-Oasis song quite easily.

CY is undoubtedly a good listen, and I like The Right Stuff, but that's about it. Nothing really hit the 'fantastic' threshold for me. When coming to NGHFB tracks Everybody On The Run and The Death of You And Me stuck in my head longer than any of those above. That's why I really look forward to the new album - at this point, CY may be the best Noel can come up with using Noel's traditional songwriting procedures, which is more mature but lacks sparks.
Lock All The Doors - good tune but that track has too much midlife crisis going on.

C'mon guys, Lock All The Doors is neither the best or the worst song on CY. It's a really average track, the verse melody is meh, the guitars sound too clean, Noel sounds shit, it wouldn't even be a b-side if it was released in 1994 (maybe a D-side) but there are worst trash on this album. In The Heat of The Moment is absolutely terrible and so are Do The Damage and The Mexican (DTD could be a Miles Kane song). There is fuck all to it, not a single pretty melody, the arrangements are horrendous, nothing to save. Almost the same for Ballad of The Mighty I, except for Marr's nice arpeggios towards the end. But the rest of the song is shit. The Girl With X-Ray Eyes is boring as fuck, the 5 other songs are either alright or good. Usually I agree with most of what you say lubeck, but there is so much that I DISAGREE with in this post that I'm not even going to make a full analysis of it. Just wow. Agree. I do agree with Lubeck on the bit about X-Ray Eyes though. |

Lock is the worst because it sounds like a DM outtake taken straight out of '94 and ran through a 2015 MOR machine - I cringe at Noel's vocals honestly. |
