I gave it a 5, but I'm hesitating with a 4. I like the instrumentation, reminds a lot of The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp by Harrison. Wasn't sure about the melody, but after playing it on piano I find it a bit weak.

5/10 I like the production but the lyrcis kill it for me. Maybe it'll get better with repeated lyrics.

8/10 - great melody - Liam's best recorded vocal since Let's All Make Believe -intersting theme of the lyrics in correlation with the atmospheric production, which make the song pretty coherent - radiofriendly and catchy +1

What's a 10 in this instance? If a 10 is a song like A Day In The Life or something, then there's no way this could be anything like an 8. I'll say 5 or 6 out of 10, even though I actually enjoy the song a lot. But if on this vote 10 is the best of what we could expect from Liam, rather than all music, then i'll give it a 7.5 I would presume it is only logical to assume that 10 would be DLBIA, Champagne Supernova, Live Forever... while 1 would be Aint got Muffins, A Quick Peep, or maybe The Nature of Reality. ----- I gave it a 5. It doesn't move my needle in either direction. ----- On another note... research shows that polls between 1-10 almost always average out to somewhere in the 7-8 range because humans don't seem to care for extremes ... so looking at things currently it would suggest that the track isn't anything particularly special. As of this posting, the average is 7.9 overall... if you throw out the outliers (10,9,2,1), the average is 7.7.

Man those lyrics, horrendous. I gave it a 6/10 but it could have been a 7 with better lyrics. But I gotta say I like the production and Liam's voice on his new songs and I'm more hyped right now about his album than I thought I would be. Good stuff

A solid 8. Melodic and something different. The lyrics are under-rated. I think they are quite clever, simple yes, but with a deeper meaning.

All time. 5.5/10 2017 8/10 Gallagher standards 7/10
I find it impossible to rate music on one scale. There's just so fucking much to consider.
Anyway. On the meh reaction. I think it's because it's a single and people were expecting a big tune or something different. I remember when BE was released everyone was raving about BATB/Next Exit, giving them 7-9/10 scores and saying they should have made the album or even been singles, well that's what's happened here. I guarantee if this was a bonus song people were hearing in October it'd get a much better reaction.
Very promising start imo. The front half of the album in particular looks incredible. Like DOYS front half-good, or even potentially a bit better!

Kasabian, Feeder etc. I know that's an incredibly cliche list for an oasis fan but that type of thing from albums released this year. I do listen to other genre's but that tends to be stuff that's completely dead in 2017. Part of my problem is im really picky with singers, like I don't listen to any Weller, only some Jam stuff because I just don't like his voice. So against what I've bought/downloaded/heard on the radio this year I'd give this song an 8, if that makes sense

The song itself is nothing special. But Liam's voice elevates song far beyond their original potential imo. If Chinatown was a Miles Kane song for example, I'd give it a 6 or 7. I try to consider every aspect of the finished song when rating it, not just how good the song is itself irrespective of what artist is performing it. The song, with Liam's voice/imput, the production, the feeling it evokes etc, all added up to an 8 for me, maybe that'll slide after a while but it's how I feel now. Also, for every Creature Comfort there's 10 shit contemporary radio songs by a team of hacks/suits and some plastic pop star so even though Chinatown doesn't hit the heights of the best stuff released this year it's so much better than all the shit that i feel it deserves a decent score

4/10. Utter pointless shite. Like Quick Peep on HC. Lol at the Arsenal reference though. But Liam wants Noel to take him to Chinatown so they can reunite over ha Gow and shumai.

Great pop tune. Lyrics are trippy verging on bizarre but, as ever, Liam's delivery transforms them. The whole track has a laid-back, languid feel to it.
I like how full-on the vocal FX are as well - in the chorus the line "all our lives we've both been waiting..." has a long reverb tail that seems to morph into the background synth layers. The picked acoustic guitar part is really catchy too. Nice to hear Liam's voice on something with this much space in the mix.

8/10 - great melody - Liam's best recorded vocal since Let's All Make Believe -intersting theme of the lyrics in correlation with the atmospheric production, which make the song pretty coherent - radiofriendly and catchy Honestly, I don't get how people are making these vocal claims. Liam has typically sounded good on recordings. Live has always been his issue. But he sounded damn good on DGSS and DOYS. To me, on Chinatown, it's one of the best mixes he's had on his voice. There's a crap load of reverb and delay, which is giving his voice added weight, and it's been brought forward a lot, rather than the typical mix of Liam's vocal fighting against a wall of sound. But in terms of his actual voice, I don't think there's been that much of an improvement, in terms of recorded aptitude.

I give it a 6. I wish the keyboard swirl was louder and not buried. Wall of Glass I give a 7. For people saying it's his best vocal in 17 years.............yeah I don't know about that. It seems like the same. Maybe even less so because Liam sounded great on SOTSOG, DOYS, DGSS and most of BE. I think his vocals are now getting over hyped. He always signings good in studio. On the flip side I also think he sounds the same live as he did in 2008, 2011, 2013 and today. At least at the start.

Horrible vocal or horrible lyrics? ? They turned me off completely. Can't stomach that song, The Beat Goes On or Standing On The Edge of Noize.

I don't think that it is a just a double layered vocal or the mix. It sounds like an original crafted performance to me. The only Beady Eye song in which he reached those high notes would be For Anyone and in that case he sung falsetto parts in the Studio he couldn't sing live. The chorus vocals don't sound like altered falsetto. They Sound like the highest notes of his mid range,... christal clear. He almost sounds like Noel.

A vocal drapped over with reverb and delay isn't an original crated vocal, imo (Not that theres anything wrong with that). When you're mixing, you don't need the recording artist to hit that high of a note with that much power (I've done this with my singers). You just need a little. A good mix can do the rest, that is adding reverb and delay. The more reverb and delay you add, the higher and stronger those notes will feel because there's a trail to them. And to me, there's a lot of trail in the higher registers. Once you bring the vocal forward in the mix, that is the vocal is mixed to the center, while everything else is mixed to the left or right, for example, then the vocal will naturally sound stronger. My point, is that on Lets All Make Believe, those same things are happening, but not to the degree it is on Chinatown. If you put the same production value into Liam's vox on LAMB, then it would sound colossal because he had a naturally stronger voice with better range.
