Poland vs Northern-Ireland fights already started It's amazing - you don't see this epidemic at Club football anymore (at least not in England), and haven't since the 80s. People think the advent of Skysports and expensive prices of the modern game are a bad thing. I reckon hooliganism would still be rampant if it was still the Working Class' sport. I theorize that hooliganism has been priced out of the modern game, more than anything else.

Different countries playing and no one can buy the best players with (dirty) money. There's more passion. E: Today was just a start by the way. Russians are travelling to Nice and they hate Polish people more than English. They said their main "rivals" (in fighting) are Poland, Croatia and Sweden. :/

I wouldn't be surprised if UEFA eject Russia from Euro 2016. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy when it comes to this.

Don't belive everything you hear on the news. Here's a tweet from one of the locals: Translation (I'm not good with french, but I think it's correct): Be calm with "riots" in Nice. It lasted for 2 min between 5 guys and 10 policemen. It's all calm there and the Polish and Irish are singing together. EDIT: And here's another tweet from an N. Ireland fan conforming that it was Nice's ultras who started the fight: EDIT2: A video from a BBC reporter:

Poland vs Northern-Ireland fights already started Sorry, that wasn't Poland vs N-Ireland fight. Those were local French supporters fighting against them. As far as I know, Poland and N-Ireland supporters are drinking together without any problems! Manualex Just corrected that myself

Smalling, where were you while the Russian was going high? Shame, Engerland was doing fine, but this is Euro! On the other hand, English hooligans are animals. Not better than other countries animals. Hope they all get kicked English hooligans are really stupid people, but animals? No, those animals come from Eastern countries like Russia. They are from different planet when it comes to violence. So,the worst kind of human scum probably on hard drugs from one side of Europe is better than the worst kind of human scum from other? Ok. Scum is scum and they are ready to do anything. The only difference is that in one some countries you have better laws against hooliganism and that country is respecting that law. But here in France now they are all like wild animals released from chains and nobody gives the shit about the law. They should arrest every animal that was fighting and show their pictures and say their names and send them to prison as an individuals not as Englishman or Russian. We are really going nowhere with this kind of prejudices.

They are familiar with fighting, death isn't new to them. I can't say the same with English supporters. Those are fucking Russian mobs there, not just some drunk fans. It's really dangerous. It will be even worse when they travel to Nice tomorrow and meet the Polish fans. Polish guys are ready for this and it won't be nice.

Well, England has huge history of hooliganism and many died in the past. Russians are actually known for fair fights, you can google that, no weapons. But all of that doesn't matter because one idiot is enough to make huge mess. And you have idiots in every nation. I don't think that stronger Ultras culture makes them bigger animals. Russians are just much more prepared and fat English hooligans are easy target to them. But punch or two is ,,okay'' but you need to be scum and animal to kill. And if you are that than it doesn't matter how strong ultras culture is in your country.

Russians are better and more dangerous fighters. Both of them are scum but Russia is more violent at the moment. And in this video they keep kicking people who are unconscious on the ground:

What I don't get is spending thousands on flights, accommodations, and tickets just to give someone a fucking good kicking? Really are moronic.
Why not just pick up cage fighting on the side instead.

who cares. i watch sports for the athletes, not the moronic fans. just get on with the football... so much for the poms 'amazing strike force'. will be satisfying watching them drop out in the group stages.
EDIT: just remembered the top 4 3rd place teams will go through aswell (gimme a break), so i retract my 'england early exit' comment. i doubt even england could fail to get 3rd in a two horse race...

Tournament was expanded to 24, so For the groups of 4 to make sense there would be needed 4 more temas to make the knockout stage.

How many football matches have you gone to? In England or Scotland? Being from America? You talk utter bollocks. Nice way to demonise the entire working class there from a small minority of dickheads - a very small minority involved but hey, let's shat on all the thousands of fans who travelled to games. And just like hooliganism in the 80s, a very small minority suddenly leads to the castigation of the working class. Let's go for the easy target eh - let's completely forget about police brutality, failures of the football associations, failures of the policing and failures of stadium infrastructure, and lets forget the media, led by the detestable Murdoch, that used sensationalist propaganda to brainwash people like you into victimising all supporters. It gets to the point where the media portrayal is so effective that any incident of racism, violence, homophobia etc is immediately jumped on as working class thugs. That's what happened with those Chelsea fans who racially abused those PSG fans last year - and then we found out that those implicated worked in the financial sector in London..... You see, because of past narratives, it's easy to jump to conclusions without any context based on previous instances of brainwashing. It's your kind of attitude that led to Hillsborough victims not getting justice for nearly 30 years. You know - completely innocent people caught up in the fact that most of them were from working class backgrounds so they MUST have done something wrong. Ugly specimen of people is what they were branded as. The irony is, of course as we found out recently, that the authorities and institutions were the true symbols of a country rotten to its core. But if people want to believe the Murdoch lies, you're either really fucking stupid or really fucking nasty piece of work.

Can't believe France '98 was 18 years ago. That being said, I've always found it unfair that the French got another tournament so soon. England had to wait 30 years between the two, and have been waiting 20 years since Euro '96. But that's okay, cos....QATAR 2022. Even me as french, I find weird we have had 3 major competitions in 32 years. Michel Platini-UEFA MAFIA inside... Nothing more!

I don't think there were a lot of English hooligans in Marseille... there were a lot a fans, probably few hooligans or "very proud and no too good" guys, if you know what I mean. There are still a few good mobs in England, but for clubs. The national team doesn't have real mobs today (and the last "large troubles" were in 2001 in Germany I think). But drunks, attacked by locals (ultras, but more by locals bad kids...) and yesterday by Russians, some of them fight. Russians were totally crazy, I saw several videos, little groups of 15 or 20 guys in front of hundred English fans, they smashed everyone, even fans who lost conscious... one English fan of 51 was beaten and he's between life and death (sorry I translate French). OasisSerbia : +1 with you. Russian don't give a fuck to french laws (and maybe to football!).

I don't have the time nor interest into research reasons for and against the Hooligan Culture. I was speculating on one aspect, and by no means brushed all working class with the same brush. And you can hate Murdouch as much as you want, but Skysports, higher prices, and commercialization of the sport has certainly coincided with safer times within the English game. Make of that what you will. I call it capitalism.

Football's safety and hooligan eradication has nothing to do with capitalism and Murdoch, it has everything to do with the Lord Justice Taylor report. I suspect you have no clue what I'm talking about, so before you offer you're idiotic opinion then I suggest you read up on it. You are correct in saying you obviously don't have the time nor interest to look into the subject. Heed that advice before spouting ignorant bullshit ever again.
