When asked about the American rapper, [Noel] Gallagher asked, "Did you say Kendrick Lamar? I've never heard that name in my life. That sounds like a character off of 'Seinfeld.' I have no idea who you're talking about. Kendrick Lamar, is that a real name?"

Enjoying the new Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever album but not as much as their previous one, Sideways to New Italy.
Dive Deep is my favourite track, nice groove.

I hadn't listened to this since it came out the end of last year, but he's always impressing me. I thought the live compilation of Live: 1975-1985 couldn't be beaten for interpretations of the early records, particularly Darkness, but the No Nukes benefit concert blows it out the water. Incredible live performances, just untouchable.

My favorite track on it is Blue Eye Lake, brilliant one. Nice! Blue Eye Lake and Bounce Off the Bottom are probably my top 3. Tidal River is another great one, they've released a live performance on their YouTube channel today and it is class.

It is a rather strong record that just stopped. It’s refreshing to hear a guitar band actually use their instruments to the max rather than generic musical wallpaper. Some really great guitar licks and effect pedals being used. I feel like Australia has some of the best guitar bands going on the planet.

Had the weirdest music-related dream ever last night.
After a reunion at the pub, me and some old schoolmates were somehow allowed to have a swim at our hometown public pool in the middle of the night…..and I broke into the office/control room and blasted Common People by Pulp over the main speakers.
Still trying to work out where the f**k all that came from 😂…

Re-listening to an old band I haven't heard in a while, Tad. A semi-popular grunge band from the late 80's and early 90's that found some success with the Seattle explosion thanks to Nevermind (they toured with Nirvana in 1989 in Europe, there's some good footage from those gigs on Youtube). Their 1993 album, Inhaler, is a great album and I'd recommend it 100%.

Not to gatekeep, but Behemoth seem to have made a Karen album without noticing. Spartacus did not complain this much.

Been re-listening to some Kendrick Lamar the last two days in "preparation" for the new release, and I'll hold off on the essay and just say that the guy can do it all, in a truly masterful way.
Making me cry? Check.
Making me laugh in amazement at the incredible wit and tongue twisting rhytm? Check.
Making me wish for a break-in so I can kick the burglar's ass while also skateboarding down a mountain? Also check.

I never bothered with Embrace after their last album, which I heard a few songs from and was struck by immense boredom. So pleased to say I heard this new song of theirs that I really really like.

Top ten Kendrick Lamar songs in chronological order, then, since we're gearing up for his return:
- HiiiPower - The Art of Peer Pressure - Good Kid / M.A.A.D City - Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst - Wesley's Theory - King Kunta - u - How Much a Dollar Cost? - The Blacker the Berry - DNA. - XXX.
Will be interesting to see if there'll be a new addition to that list tomorrow. Part of me thinks that after a five-year hiatus then nothing could possibly live up to the hype, but if he does make something even close to his two classic albums then it'll be hard not to put him in the all-time highest-echelon of rappers. The Heart V was a good taster, though, he seems as sharp as ever and I enjoyed the smooth sound of the Marvin Gaye samples on that track.

One of the bands I thought wouldn't release new material anymore did it and it's a stellar track MCR
I would like if the vocal take was a bit higher in the mix but other than that it's 🔥

Me waking up to new Kendrick Lamar, Quelle Chris, Thom Yorke, and Florence + The Machine albums: Reviews? Initial thoughts is that the Kendrick album is a beautiful and rich album that is blurred from that focus by a handful of filler tracks that feel like that they're there just to feed people after the five-year wait and give the album more digestible songs. Trim it down a little, though, and it's fantastic. Kendrick remains one of the most thoughtful and important voices in music. The Smile album is also good but feels like a bit of a grab-bag of tracks that were left around with some new ones added, it works but has a slightly compilation feel to it, like the bonus disc of one of those KID/AMNESIAC type things they've been doing. Thom's voice remains gorgeous, though, and the production is great. Only heard the Quelle Chris once but it sounds like a pleasant low-fi record with some pretty tracks but maybe a bit monotone for repeated listens. Only heard the Florence singles so far, will be listening to it in full today, hopefully. No more new music this weekend, please, I am full!

Slightly in love with this.
All twinkling jazz chords and swirls of piano, occasionally stabbed in the heart with loud guitars.
