I'd say a lot of the skeptics were okay with it once Rattling Rose/Sail On came out. Good that Black Star Dancing was the first single though.

My favourite of the Noel tunes are the upbeat and dancey ones. - Holy Mountain - What a Life - In the Heat of the Moment - Black Star Dancing Obviously his ballads are great, because they always will be. Noel could do an album of ballads and each one will be fucking ace. But this new direction is really beginning to catch my attention. She Taught Me How to Fly and This is the Place, too. I'm a fan of STMHTF. I really like it. The overall vibe of the tune is great. This Is The Place, too. Less so, but still a tune.

The chorus of Blue Moon Rising is addictive. Brilliant tune.

While it was happening, it was ‘cool’ to hate the EP project, I think most of us now agree it wasn’t too bad, actually. We got some quality tracks from this side project of Noel’s: ADIAIDTGB, Come On Outside, Blue Moon Rising... Did we hate the EP project? look at the '''''''''''ratings''''''''''''''' on this forum. mental

The Three EPs are fantastic.
I couldn’t understand the hate.

So, I relistened to the playlist I made for the 3 EPs and now of course I'm here to rank the songs:
1) Blue Moon Rising: so vibey but with a strong melody, nice chorus, great instrumental break and some nice lyrics, I'd love it if he went completely in this direction with his next record
2) A Dream Is All I Need To Get By: a close second, I think these two perfectly mix Noel's willingness to move forward with his sound while not sacrificing his fantastic ear for melodies
3) Rattling Rose: I feel like this one should've been the opening single and give the name to the EP instead of BSD, top bassline and a tiny bit of a What A Life vibe, which is still one of the best HFB tunes
4) Sail On: I always liked this one but it eventually still grew on me because in the end I'll always be a sucker for Noel's nice little tunes with not very happy but somehow still uplifting lyrics a la Half The Word Away
5) Evil Flower: this was the biggest surprise for me, I guess I was too fast to deem it as not so good and never came back to it before today It's actually a super cool tune and would have made for a great FIFA soundtrack
6) Wandering Star: a lovely melody, lyrics are as Noel Gallagher as it can get, the only problem I have with this one is that it plods a bit
7) Come On Outside: very oasisy as we all know, simple and straightforward but it fuckin works
8) This Is The Place: nice vibe, good energy, verses are better than the chorus, it gets a bit too repetitive
9) Black Star Dancing: the only one I still can't get into, it seems to me there's not much substance to this one, on a record it would've been a low tier album track which maybe fits the vibe and the flow but it's not particularly noteworthy as a standalone tune
Overall I feel like this is actually a very nice bunch of tunes that weren't always given a chance by everybody and I'm more excited than ever for what's to follow

Thinking about the EPs again made me think about the 2020 that never was, where he played those 3 shows in the spring and a few summer gigs in June, ostensibly with the EPs to promote. I know this is a couple of songs too long and probably too ambitious, but the opportunity was there for a set that really says “we are the HFB” , with a couple of Oasis tracks to keep everyone happy. I think this would have been a gig for the ages:
Fort Knox This Is The Place Holy Mountain Keep On Reaching It’s A Beautiful World She Taught Me How To Fly In the Heat of the Moment Black Star Dancing Riverman Wandering Star Little By Little Falling Down A Dream Is All I Need To Get By Dead in the Water Everybody’s On The Run Lock All The Doors Come On Outside If I Had a Gun Stop Crying Your Heart Out The Man Who Built The Moon What A Life — Blue Moon Rising Don’t Look Back In Anger Sail On

I know he could write acoustic tracks in his sleep, and I love both WBTM and the EPs, but this is so haunting and heartfelt it's so beautiful

So, as I'm on a big NGHFB re-listen lately, I was thinking that as much as I do love some of the EP tracks (and in general I think they get slagged off mostly because they "have to") and really liked WBTM, I'd love to get an album a la Alone On The Rope/Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me (which, by the way, sounds mega every time they play it live) I know some people would deem it as boring, and maybe it would make it tough to get the crowd going live, but I think Noel is incredibly good at creating that kind of atmosphere and he hasn't explored it enough

Hope the next album continues the fuck-off energy/colour of WBTM.
I'd kill for more songs like Holy Mountain.

On the EP tracks, whenever I listen to them I always think they're really good.
I then proceed to not listen to them for another four months.

Much better than most of the EP's.

If Love Is The Law is a tune That song, Alone on the Rope, While the Song Remains the Same, Everybody's on the Run, Sail On, and This is the Place are just a few good examples of how Noel's progressed songwriting has blossomed since going solo.

Noel's new albums are all really good.
However, I think, for the hard-core, they increase in quality. If you're a proper fan and love his work, then you will probably prefer his work as it goes on.
For the casual fan, I think his albums would decline in quality. Loads of "classic Noel" tunes on the 1st album, with less and less as the albums progress.

With hindsight it would've made much more sense to have put Dead In the Water with the 3 EPs (i.e. a random collection of songs) rather than tagging it on the end of Who Built the Moon?. Noel could've stuck the CY version of Don't Stop... in there too before he released the track under the Oasis banner.

You don’t need to tack on that live recording. I’m not even a fan of that particular version. Deserved better.

his 10 best songs will hardly change between fans BUT i never thought World71R and Lennon2217 would include You Know We Can't Go Back ..! like how it fits on the album, but it's the one I usually skip This Is The Place, Blue Moon Rising and A Dream Is All I Need are up there
