Who would have thought in the 1990s that both cocaine fueled Noel and Liam Gallagher would turn into true role models.
Class.

Who would have thought in the 1990s that both Noel and Liam Gallagher would turn into true role models. Class. So few of the musicians I feel genuine love for are good role models. I love Kanye with my actual heart, he's a colossal dickhead. I love the Gallaghers with my entire soul, the pair of them are utter knobs. Morrissey, Eminem, Bowie, Elvis, Jackson - it's hard to name too many male musical legends who aren't morally questionable in some way. I think the only truly positive male role models I have from music are Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Bon Iver, and of course Chris Martin. And even Dylan seems a churlish twat now and again.

I suppose it's a fool's errand to even look to music for your role models. Great art rarely reflects a peaceful soul. As is the case so often, true hope comes from the normal people on the street who make the world turn - who don't need a spotlight on them to produce something beautiful, like a family, or a career, or a good deed. I still love the Gallaghers, though. The dickheads. Gallagher’s are role models beyond the music though - which is my point. From literally achieving their success through pure grafting, to Noel kicking his cocaine habit, Liam’s resurrection from 2017 to present (after what was actually a real personal crisis), to both now being respected by the same media which once despised the pair of them as yobs. All by really just being themselves and how they matured as they’ve aged. The comprehensive story of Oasis and the brothers is inspiring.

Something I've said before is that so many of the characters who have the "bad person" label attached to them in music are nowhere near the worst characters of the lot. Noel and Liam are knobheads, but even then they can't compare to the likes of Bowie or Chuck Berry, who all have credible child-abuse allegations against them. John Lennon slammed his wife's head against doors, and all that carry on. And yet if you were to ask the general public who's music they can't like because of the personality behind it, the top three choices would probably be Kanye, the Gallaghers, and Bono. All of whom are knobheads in their own way, but there are GLACIERS of worse people in music before you get to them. There should probably be an insightful point about why that is now, but I'm too tipsy to think of one. Come to your own conclusions.

All by really just being themselves and how they matured as they’ve aged. The comprehensive story of Oasis and the brothers is inspiring. Agree. We don't know any of these people, not really. They live partly in the realm of myth which is part of what is so alluring. (It certainly is for me. I live a life on the edges of Hollywood just because it is so endlessly thrilling to be part of the myth. It is a drug, a very beautiful drug with no real hangover except desire. Real actors, for example, are horribly complex and often deeply annoying and off-putting people but when the camera is on they are like gods in their power. That's crazy stuff.) You can be inspired, whether as a writer, musician, or just one of those "normal people in the street" (not convinced there is a big difference, most people have dreams and want to be loved and admired) by parts of Oasis' (or Noel's or Liam's) story, without endorsing every little thing they have done or said. At the same time, you can be disappointed in them as well. People are often disappointed in the gods ...

Spot on about role models and it doesn't just apply to music.
Sporting role models the same, just best not to get too attached to people you don't know.
I love Oasis and Liam/Noel musically, but as people I've never really looked at them favourably especially Noel. Best not to get too deep into it.
Like so many people were devastated and tried to defend Ronaldo re: his rape allegations cos they idolized him.
Same with Kobe Bryant years ago, the minute it gets to that point you know you need to step back.

If The Beatles had the attitude, swagger, and songs of Oasis, they would have been big.

I completely forgot what a great song boy with the blues is. How “nature of reality” ended up on the album and not this is the most typical oasis thing ever

I think I used to live right near Guigsy. Obviously not going to give away the precise location but I saw him two times, but that was over a 4-5 year period. I assume he must’ve lived close, or it was just a huge coincidence to see him twice in the same place.
Amazing to think more people haven’t had pics with him, seeing as he seemed happy enough to take a photo with that lad. How many pics exist of him post-Oasis? I think I’ve seen two. I wonder how many would recognise him today apart from Oasis fans, and even the casual fan might not. One of the times I saw him, my mate didn’t know who it was until I said.
I assume he still must’ve been recognised a fair bit but probably said no to pics, seeing as there’s almost none. Maybe he’s just more comfortable about it now, a bit like Whitey putting up videos on social media playing Oasis tunes when he hadn’t been seen much for years.

Mucky Fingers really comes alive at COMS 2005. The highlight being Zak’s drumming at the rip roaring outro.
It’s a bit plodding on the album, but fuck me it’s brilliant live. The one thing Zak did really well.

As for Mucky Fingers I've always liked it but it's certainly not in my favourite top 30 Oasis songs.

Did anyone manage to snag a copy of Familiar Too Millions triple vinyl from the official Oasis store for £25 yesterday?
Sold out by the time I logged on. Fucking gutted.

Went to the Cavern Club in Liverpool last night.
The band there played Help, I Feel Fine, You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away and All My Loving, along with That’s Entertainment and Sit Down. All crowd pleasers.
Then they did She’s Electric and Wonderwall, and about twice the number of people got up and started singing.

Not everyone is aware that they know this, but it's in everyone's subconscious; just needs a little push for the light bulb moment.

I rarely sit down and listen to an album in full any more through my headphones. My wife's got Casualty on so I've slung on Dig Out Your Soul CD. This is definitely how this album should be listened to.
Crikey, High Horse Lady nearly took my head off! Class album all the way through, except the obvious track... Although, Nature Of Reality, despite the lyrics/melody, has a great instrumental and groove.
The Turning is always a delight. Probably the best track on the album. All 4 singles are exceptional. Soldier On is a dreamy end to a slightly psychedelic album.
Love it.

It's 25 years ago today since Oasis played the first of two nights at Loch Lamond in Scotland. And, it's two years ago today since Liam played his concert for MTV unplugged.

I think they should really try to release the Loch Lomond shows. They get overshadowed by Knebworth, but its weird that they sound a lot better than Knebworth. But the new documentary might change that.
