16 years ago today, I saw Oasis in Lille. Great memories. Seen them a few months earlier in Manchester, but this was a much more intimate setting. I remember Noel wanted to play Wonderwall acoustic, but got all grumpy because the crowd was singing the normal version, where he wanted to go Ryan Adams. So he played Married with children instead. "I don't get paid to hear you sing". www.stopcryingyourheartout.co.uk/2018/11/on-this-day-in-oasis-history_16.html Great post and you heard Married With Children! My Oasis thoughts for the day is: It's 10 years ago this time around when I bought the tickets for my last 2 Oasis gigs. 2 nights at Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, 21st & 22nd January 2009. It was the last time when I bought gig tickets at my local ticket shop. I was the first person in the queue at the front of the shop. I bought my tickets and went back home. As soon as I got home, I saw they announced the second night, so I jumped on my bike to heading to the ticket shop again and bought another tickets for second night. My English friend was gonna join me to see Oasis in Amsterdam and I sent a txt message to him "I got our tickets for both nights!". He sent a txt straight back to me saying "Well done! I'm impressed". Good times.

It's really great to read these accounts of Oasis gigs. I wish I could have seen them but I was too young at the time. It seems almost unbelievable to me that I've only been an Oasis fan for a year and a half. In the intervening time I've collected every last scrap of recorded music ever done by them and I live my fucking life for Oasis now! If you'd have told me a year ago that by today I'd have seen Liam Gallagher four times and Noel as well I wouldn't have believed you. What a time to be alive!

I'd love to hear the first few verses of All Around the World arranged like the first verses of Wonderwall - acoustic guitars and light drums, compressed underneath Liam's blaring vocals.

Really my ideal version would be the rethink with a few more guitar layers, but that's probably a lot harder to do. Ideally, Noel would actually "Rethink" the whole album, so we could have a listen to that. It would be lovely. The album should be remixed. But not by Noel. He’ll only edit the songs down and cut out the lead guitar parts he’s embarrassed he came up with, like he did with his emasculated take on ‘D’You Know What I Mean?’ from 2016. We need someone to come along who understands the appeal of the album for fans, will respect that, but won’t be so reverent about it that they negate to make the changes that really need to be made. Probably no such person will ever present themself. And if they did, I don’t think Noel would let them have at it, anyway. I bet he’d rather comb through the mastertapes of an album he hates than give over the reigns to an outsider who might actually know what they’re doing. Well, that was the problem to begin with, wasn’t it, that he sat in on the mixing process when he should’ve just left it to Owen Morris or someone else?

My friend got me into Oasis around 1995 (the same friend got me into Arsenal around the same time). Be Here Now was my first ever album that I received for Xmas in 1997.
So you can quite easily make the case that I’ve been an Oasis fan from the beginning - I was just too young to know and appreciate it at the time.

Stay Young works really nicely after The Girl in the Dirty Shirt, continues the bouncy feel of the keyboard outro.

Question: Could Be Here Now have sold even more in it's first week than it did? In other words, was the hype so big that anyone was who was vaguely interested in Oasis bought it, or could it have been even bigger?
Let's say that D'You Know What I Mean?, Stand By Me, and Don't Go Away were pre-album singles, with the first two having both a rethought production and a single edit (think that 5-minute remastered video for DYKWIM on YouTube), would they have been played on the radio/MTV more and attracted more people? I wasn't born until 1999 so I don't really know what the situation was, could they have been getting even more airplay?

The video bootleg of it doing the rounds is spine tingling.

All the long singles had radio edits, DYKWIM was cut to 5 mins, so I guess the radio play was pretty standard. The videos would have been shown on MTV regularly too, just as much as any other big band at the time. Without the internet, that was pretty much all the promo they could do, aside from print media.

There was? Yeah, the single version is 5:45, which is still longer than most radio edits for music singles.

In an alternative world OASIS release a non album CD single of STAY YOUNG shortly after Knebworth building the hype possibly with live tracks as b-sides. That would have helped massively I think.

Stay Young works really nicely after The Girl in the Dirty Shirt, continues the bouncy feel of the keyboard outro. I like that idea, but I'd put Fade In-Out before TGITDS, then Stay Young and the rest of the album after it. That would give Fade In-Out a position similar to what Gas Panic! has on SOTSOG where it's like an epic in the middle of the song that breaks the album a bit and really sets the two sides apart.

Today I was listening to Suede’s 2 disk best of and what struck me is how much better Disk 2 is to Disk 1. For those of you that don’t have it, Disk 1 is a collection of their singles whereas Disk 2 is B-sides and album tracks. So it got me think if Oasis had done the same with a best of, would Disk 1 or Disk 2 be stronger? Oasis obviously had incredible B-sides and album tracks but the singles were also very strong. So I did the below (I edited the singles the make it fit on one Disk)
Disk One-The UK Singles Supersonic Live Forever Cigarettes & Alcohol Whatever Some Might Say Roll With It Wonderwall Don’t Look Back in Anger Dyou Know What I mean? Stand By Me All Around The World Go Let It Out Who Feels Love? Stop Crying Your Heart Out Little By Little Songbird Lyla The Importance of Being Idle The Shock of the Lightning
Disk 2- B Sides and Album Tracks Rock n Roll Star Columbia Slide Away Listen Up Fade Away Half The World Away (It’s Good) To Be Free Acquiesce Morning Glory Talk Tonight Champagne Supernova The Masterplan Rockin Chair Don’t Go Away Stay Young Gas Panic! Let’s All Make Believe Bag It Up The Turning

I mean that is arguably Stop The Clocks just that it's not divided into two discs and there's nothing from Be Here Now or DOYS

Mainly Because as mentioned Suede’s b-sides and album tracks are far stronger than their singles and I couldn’t think of another band which would be the same. I mean some bands have great bsides but for the collection to be stronger than the singles is very rare. Oasis are close but looking at it I think the singles might still be slightly better

Would you say Who Built the Moon was sound and style the band were trying to achieve with SOTSOG?

The bridge on The Girl in the Dirty Shirt is fucking great, just slightly less cocaine in the sessions for that track would have made a truly classic bit of Oasis fun. Love the keyboards, adore the melody, Liam's vocals are just ecstatic, and the outro is so much fucking fun. Tune.
