Anyone listen to the BBC radio documentary Cradle of Football on Good Morning Scotland on Sunday?
About the small village of Glenbuck that produced many professional footballers, notably Bill Shankly. Really interesting, and a little microcosm of what made football so popular in Scotland.

That was a horrific game of football, both teams utter shite. Aberdeen just slightly utter shite though and thoroughly deserved to win.

Makes the St Johnstone result on Saturday even more annoying, would only be 2 points behind if we'd just killed that game off like we should've done.

Congratulations to Ross County, fantastic achievement.
You could see that finish coming a mile off, Hibs have once again "Hibs'd" it.

Aye well done County, I have a lot of time for Jim McIntyre, he was a good player for us and he's done great at County.
It's quite an achievement for County and ICT to be the current holders of both the national cup competitions having only been admitted to the senior leagues 20 years ago.

If Aberdeen win the league - whatever the chances - it will be the first time ever, I think, that all major trophies will be held outside of the Central Belt no?
It's a good chance for other teams to assert themselves much in the way the New Firm did back in the 80s.

That's the league done now. Canna see The Dons pulling it back now. We are still going down but still good to clamp the funsters up with a wee last minute equaliser. What a minter of a club they are.

Is the Scottish Premier League a higher level than the Dutch Eredivisie?

Yep, we'll pass you on the way down We'll not see you in the final though as you will get pumped something rotten from Celtic in the semi! One at a time, we've got the mighty Blue Toon on Sunday first in the Petrofac, finally win that after 4 attempts and then we'll see about Celtic! I've booked the Monday off after the cup semi, will either be pished celebrating or pished drowning my sorrows!

Is the Scottish Premier League a higher level than the Dutch Eredivisie? I've watched a few Eredivisie games on Sky Sports this year and yeah I'd say it's of a higher level, certainly on a technical skill level. PSV are the best I've watched and both Feyenoord and AZ games were decent too. Although, Ajax weren't great against Celtic in the Europa League this season so maybe the gap isn't that massive as both Hearts and Aberdeen have stepped up a level this year and gave Celtic a decent run in the Premiership.

Is the Scottish Premier League a higher level than the Dutch Eredivisie? Netherlands still produce better players than Scotland. Scotland hasn't produced a world class player since the 80s sadly. I blame the poor youth coaching and the obsession with kick and rush football. Small signs this is changing though amongst many clubs in Scotland.

It certainly doesn't help when the people who run the game continually talk our game down. I about threw the radio out the window the other night when I heard Doncaster slavering over The Rangers winning promotion:
"in the better interests of the game to celebrate what will be a stronger commercially focused top flight with Rangers back in it". He said: "So much of the tumultuous times needs to be put behind everyone. "We need to look forward and to work together for the benefit of the game overall."
Basically what he is saying there is that since Rangers (RIP) went bust him and the rest of his colleagues have not bothered their arses to try and make our game better because he didn't think there was any point with no team called Rangers in the league. But now that there is a new team called The Rangers in the top league they can start doing their job again.
Since Rangers went bust Aberdeen, United and Hearts attendances are all up by between 10 and 35%. Aberdeen won the League Cup (their first trophy in 20 years). ICT, Ross County (only in the senior leagues for 21 years) and St Johnstone have all won their first ever major trophy. And yet Doncaster and his colleagues are saying that all this has been a bad thing and "tumultuous".
Look at the English Premier League this season, they are absolutely loving that fact that the likes of Spurs and Leicester are actually challenging for the title. What do we do here in Scotland? We don't even merely discount Aberdeen's title challenge, we basically say "it doesn't matter who wins the league if The Rangers aren't there".
