One morning (in the near future) we will wake up to a new Radiohead album released exclusively via Bit Torrents and it will be glorious. #InRainbows #TheKingOfLimbs #TomorrowsModernBoxes I have a pretty geeky theory about Radiohead (no surprises there) in that their albums go in cycles of three with the third summing up the previous two whilst adding a little something: Pablo Honey - straightforward guitar rock with introspective lyrics The Bends - More complex rock with some lyrics encompassing society Ok Computer - Some complex rock and some straightforward, both societal and introspective lyrics and added electronica Kid A - Mainly electronic with apocalyptic lyrics Amnesiac - More guitars, with some jazz and abstract/political lyrics Hail to the Thief - a blend of guitar and electronics with some jazz and political lyrics. Adding grooves, acoustic, and whatever genre Myxomatosis is. In Rainbows - organic guitar rock The King of Limbs - rhythm based with some electronica LP9 - A mix of smooth guitars and electronica (Identikit) with prominent rhythm and some thing else added. Probably nonsense of course, but hey if they're only gonna release one album in 8 years I'm gonna come up with some stupid shit to pass the time...

I always thought The Daily Mail had a bond-feel, doubt it HEAVILY but then it could lead to the best - or worst - bond theme ever.

Not a fucking chance. Although Radiohead was commissioned to write the theme to the failed "Avengers" movie back in 1998. Big Boots was the song, it was awesome live and still hasn't seen the light of day. What a shame. * Featured heavily in "Meeting People Is Easy".

That's Abbey Road isn't it - was this recording for Kid A or something (doesn't sound like anything from that album, but I know it was mastered at Abbey Road)?

The recording of "Big Boots" took place in very early 1998. Long before Kid A sessions. Apparently it had already been written by the time they've released The Bends. This version from a gig in Milan in 1995 has strangely only leaked recently, but it's the best version available soundwise. It's also the most primitive and early version. The snippet featured in Meeting People Is Easy that Lennon2217 posted already showed some progress. They've only played it again one more time after the The Bends tour, during the "rehearsal" tour in preparation or the recording of Hail To The Thief, in Salamanca in 2002. That performance was more or less improvised. But WHAT a SONG this potentially could be, recorded properly. And they just leave it kicking around, if only, since 1995. I remember the early 2000's, before the actual release of Kid A, and there were bootleg recordings of songs like 'Nude', 'True Love Waits', 'Lift' and 'Big Boots' (called Man-O-War back then) floating around the Internet. Brilliant songs, all of them. And in the end neither of them turned up on the album or Amnesiac or its b-sides in a proper studio version. Still the albums were mind-bendingly good. What a band this is/was.

I wouldn't be surprised to see any of those three unreleased songs on lp9, they have been working on Lift again recently so maybe they're going back to all those unreleased songs and seeing what they can do...these are songs yet to have a studio version: Identikit Cut a Hole Skirting on the Surface Big Boots Lift True Love Waits Ful Stop The Present Tense Wake Me (Before They Come) Burn the Witch Follow Me Around Open the Floodgates I Lie Awake I Froze Up Not a bad list, I'd LOVE Identikit, True Love Waits, Skirting on the Surface or The Present Tense on lp9. I'd like more tracks as well, I know Thom doesn't like the album concept anymore but it'd be nice to have a solid set of 10-11 tracks, not as bloated as Hail to the Thief but not as EP-ish as The King of Limbs, just right like In Rainbows.

Out of the ones you've listed I'd like to see the following eventually come out officially. Identikit Skirting On The Surface Big Boots Lift Ful Stop Follow Me Around I Froze Up I'd even like to see finished version of the awesome surf rock Spooks. I hope Radiohead never touches True Love Waits again. The live version is an absolute beauty. Like Neil Young's Hey Hey My My, Needle and The Damage Done, Powerfinger, Sugar Mountain, etc, they are all fine and accepted even though not studio versions. The great thing about Radiohead is they have enough unreleased material for another masterpiece album. All the ingredients are there in the cupboard.

I would be surprised to hear Spooks now Jonny has used it for Inherent Vice, but it would be nice. Identikit, Skirting on the Surface and Ful Stop should definitely be on lp9 imo. I'd like a cinematic kind of album with as much if not more prominence given to Jonny than Thom - orchestras, big drums, some synths and smoooooth In Rainbows guitars. Basically I want the album to sound like Identikit with orchestras, something powerful and less claustrophobic. I suppose an extrovert to The King of Limb's introvert. Lift could fit this, and Cut a Hole too. Another brilliant record would be astounding, this is now 20 years after Radiohead released their first great record, and they haven't put out anything that could even be described as mediocre since for me, and it's not as if they've been playing it safe either. Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief and The King of Limbs have been their second tier of albums in that time. If they make another record you could put next to The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows then I think they'll go down as second only to The Beatles, and rightly so. H.Y.P.E.D

The Maccabees new album is really good. Darker and more stripped back than Given to the Wild (though even then it's hardly thin), although not quite as good.

Not LP9 related, but an old On a Friday demo tape is about to go on auction. It may include 3 unheard tracks and the quality is described as being better than the famous "Shindig" tape that's been circulating for years. What do you say guys? Should we organize something like the 92/93 demo tape purchase? specialauctionservices.com/large/me090915/lot0685.html

Haha, class... "On A Friday soon gained two more members. The first was a living haircut called Jonny Greenwood who played a Telecaster like a beast, and the second was a clothes-store mannequin that they put behind a drumkit and hoped nobody would notice, billing it as "Phil"."

With Thom in Japan and Phil touring in America currently I guess it's safe to say the band is taking a break from recordings (again).
