Just did a quick mash-up of these 2 songs on audacity, they are practically identical. exact same tempo (both drum beats stay in line throughout) and the vocal melody's are almost identical. even the chords and key is the exact same. kind of shocked he put both songs on the album tbh... www.sendspace.com/file/ageilp

Too much time on your hands man. Leave the songs alone.

That's correct (bar the melodies unlike you said), yet the songs are very different. Shows how you can write million of songs with the same chords, structure and tempo.

I recall someone pointed out the same about The Turning & High Horse Lady having near identical chorus vocal melodies the week after DOYS came out.
I really enjoy Soldier Boys but have only listened to Wrong Beach a few times, very average sounding song and by far the weakest on the LP, IMO.

The vocal melodies are different.
I like the transitions in that sections of the album. SB&JF-BA-SOTWB. They flow great into one another. Wonder if that is the result of consistency in tempo and keys?
I actually think SOTWB is great and SB&JF is one of the worst on the album.

Funny how different it is from person to person. I think Stranded On The Wrong Beach is one of the best songs on the album.

I used to think of SBAJF as the worst song on the album, but I've really started liking it, more than TWB. I like the transitions in that sections of the album. SB&JF-BA-SOTWB. They flow great into one another. Wonder if that is the result of consistency in tempo and keys? Funnily enough I think that this section is the biggest weakness of the album those three are too close together for my taste.

SB&JF is a bit useless definitely an album track but it flows well and they can't all be killer. I live the saw and the bongos on BA. It's great. And the melody is amazing. Sometimes it's my favorite tune on the album. Album is pretty well balance for me. DO, SB&JF, STC are the three worst. And they are at beginning middle and end.

SBAJF is actually one of my favorites a nice mix between "When I'm Sixty Four" and "Sunny Afternoon" with a bit of dark quirkiness to it. SOTWB is probably the weakest track off the album but its listenable and its not horrible by any means, its a bit plodding but its got a catchy bit and its nice to hear Noel sing a more powerful track.
With regard to their similarity. Noel and other artist for that matter, have a made songs with the exact same chords but they change the melodies, atmosphere to create a whole new product. The melodies for both tracks are solid and even when Noel is on autopilot on say a song like THT he can turn out pretty solid and catchy melodies. He is second to none in my books as a melodist.

He used the same chords in Wonderwall, DYKWIM, Whatever, IIAG and Talk tonight if I remember right. So it's not a big deal.
The two songs are very different in style and melody to me.

SBAJF is the weakest on the album by far. Whereas I bloody love SOTWB. Funny how that works considering they are "the same."

Chords are only chords, they are to serve a melody, they are not the song.

Em7 G B7 and Asus4 (sometime A7sus4), Cadd9 are ALL essential. Pretty much the chords in Wonderwall will get you through a LOT of songs haha

i think its the plodding drum beats that makes the album sound repetitive. i played the album to my friends in the car one day, theyre all massive oasis fans and once we got to the 5th song one of them said "once youve heard one you've heard them all" and in a way its kind of true
