I was going to make this a separate topic, but I would get panned, so I'll put it here:
"I hope you never change" sounds EXACTLY like the Foo Fighters "Within a morning star" line in Five For Fighting's 100 Years to Live. At 1.58:
Probably only because it has the same amount of syllables. But from the first listen I knew something about the song was instantly familiar, and I think I found out why here. Coincidence, I'm sure, though

just listened to it... it's meh. it's a b-side so with that in perspective, it's a decent tune. probably shouldn't be on the album.
not bad 5/10 at best, maybe a 4/10 on first listen

Coincidence, I'm sure, though The Foo Fighters do not belong in that quote haha. It's Five For Fighting, a one-hit-wonder band. Since you mentioned the Foo Fighters though, that line in The Good Rebel "There will be a star that's born to fill the empty sky" is a lot like the Foo Fighters song Times Like These "i'm a brand new sky to hang the stars upon tonight."

I also got the 'All In The Mind' vibe, and I'm glad someone else picked up on the Merry Xmas Everybody vocal melody, but this sums it up for me: Good thing this was written around 2002 or so...it makes sense. A lot of songs from the HC era have a 'going through the motions' vibe, trying to recapture old glories. This song fits in with some of Noel's other tunes from that time period. It's evident this led to Heathen Chemistry, good thing we can fast forward to Noel's current songwriting after TIOBI, FD and TDOYAM and know this isn't a growing trend.

It also has a very strong IHITIK feel to it....especially some of the drumming, along with that instrumental part about 3/4ths through

Those 2 still get lots of airplay to this day.

i'm just glad its a b-side. it's an average tune. Noel just going through the motions but the verse melody is nice enough and the production is great but the chorus just gets old. More TDOYAM please and maybe just maybe Noel finally got a tracklist for an album correct.

If Noel rewrote the chorus and the Rain's parts it would have been a lot better 4/10 And I'm glad is a B-side

If it was written in 02, i wonder why he decided to use it as the bside on his first solo single. surely he has better bside type songs then this.

Quite a grower - gets better with every listen, but definitely not as good as TDOYAM. Probably a 7/10, and TDOYAM is about 7.5.

No it's not shit! This B-side is better than 70% of the music that Beady Eye has presented us with. It's very good imo, and with the brilliant Death Of You And Me as the A-side, I'm really pleased with what we got. Beady Eye are not even close to be in the same league

If you have issue with this tune, then you need to recapture the joy that BHN brought to the world.
Nice little effort. Not stellar, but enjoyable.

Are people only saying it sounds like BHN because it vaguely sounds like The Fame? What made Be Here Now for me was the layers and layers of instruments on every track. This is far more simplistic in comparison.

The Good Rebel
