I discovered them twice!
The first time was in 1995, around the time Morning Glory was released. I was only 7 years old, but I'd seen my older cousin listening to Oasis and wanted to be like him. I told my dad and he got me Morning Glory on cassette, and later on CD which was a big thing back then. I played Morning Glory and Be Here Now non-stop, but I wasn't keen on Definitely Maybe for some reason. Then after the Be Here Now backlash I eventually got bored and stopped listening around 1998/99 ish.
I had no interest in music for the next few years until the age of 13 (2001). All my mates listened to the likes of Bowling for Soup and The Offspring but I always thought they were a bit cack. Oasis were in the media again with the build up to Heathen Chemistry, and most of the previews seemed to say "it won't be as good as Definitely Maybe". As I say, I was never keen on Definitely Maybe, but I thought "fuck it, I'll give it another try." Haven't looked back since.
(For the record, Definitely Maybe has been my undisputed all time favourite album ever since).

well... the first time that I hear oasis was in the effect butterfly, 4 or 5 years ago, i fell in love of SCYHO, i downloaded the song, but nothing else!... a time after, one day i was doing homework and i put the tv, in concert channel, and oasis was there, i hear the songs, i wasn't watching, and i was like.. "hey.. i hear this before, i know that song" the funny thing is i don' t remember hear the songs in my life, just stop crying your hear out, and maybe wonderwall... i still don't know how i recognized the songs... is a mistery... from that moment, i downloaded a few songs.... I hear live forever and DLBIA... and you know the rest
i feel bad for don't discovered oasis more earlier, i was very child and i didn't listening so much music, sometimes i think, "when oasis begings, i wasn't even born"

I rediscovered them around 2006 when Don't Look Back in Anger came on the radio while we were repainting our kitchen. There were three of us there and we all remembered that we loved the song back in the day (Wonderwall and DLBIA were really big hits in Germany) but we were all a bit too young to be really into any kind of rock band at the time. I only had WTSMG on cassette ;D so I got Definitely Maybe, Be Here Now and The Masterplan from a friend and thought they were all great (yes, even BHN ) But still it took a while until I became a real fan because Oasis have the oddest reputation over here...all their humour somehow gets lost in translation. Only after I started looking for videos on YouTube I started to really really love them, because of some amazing live performances (especially love Chicago 1994 and Maine Road and since their last tour the River State gig) and hundreds of brilliant interviews! And nowadays they are my favourite band and I spend way too much time listening to whatever the Gallaghers have to say about all and sundry!

i can actually track down the exact day: march 18, 1996. how? because it was the day "anthology 2" came out.
i was a huge beatles fan when i was younger. huge john lennon fan then, so of course i got the second anthology the day it came out. a friend of mine came over to listen to it with me, but also brought over his copy of "morning glory." he popped in the cd and put on "don't look back in anger." my attention was immediately grabbed thanks to the "imagine" intro. my mind was blown. haven't looked back since.

My dad bought The Masterplan sometime in 1998, and I remember loving that. Then, I distinctly remember going into the record store and buying Definitely Maybe, which was my second album ever after a greatest hits collection of the Who. I was initially going to buy Be Here Now, but my dad steered me away from that because he had heard bad reviews of it. I didn't fully get obsessed with Oasis until about 2007 or 2008.

2000, year 10 at school and become mates with a lad called Dale. By this time, the programme I was in love with called Dream Team was on Sky One. I had heard two different songs by this band I hadn't heard of. They was "Be Here Now" (first verse) and "Don't Go Away" (chorus). I asked him if he knew who it was. Went back to his and in his bedroom he pulled out this album and said, "Have you not heard of them?" I said, "never." The album? Be Here Now! We spent hours just listening to it and watching the GMEX gig in 97.
That was it, from that moment I went Oasis hunting...found out I already had a copy of Definitely Maybe in the house (wasn't mine but got left behind so I had it), got given Morning Glory and bought Standing

Well l already knew wonderwall and dlbia but I think it was in 99 in my cousin’s house, he had the wstmg and masterplan and I listened the two albums, then I forgot about them; a year later I was watching tv and suddenly I saw a guy wearing sunglasses playing a guitar, singing is it any wonder why princes and kings are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings because ordinary people that are like you and me we’re the builders of their destiny. I thought: this guy has something powerful and I compared him with Richard Aschcroft, I felt in love and the rest is history.

The first I ever heard of Oasis was in November of 1995,on the mainstream radio. Wonderwall had just come out and started getting really popular. I had been listening to music for about a year but nothing had really got me interested until Wonderwall. Soemthing abuot that song just grabbed me by the balls and, even 15 years later now, hasn't let go. Its inexplicably tender and brash at the same time, gentle with Liam punkrockingly spitting the words out. DLBIA followed and I got my copy of MG, then BHN when it came (I was actually in England then,it was a pretty amazing time to be an Oasis fan).
From 1999 to 2000 I lost interest becuase of the backlash and they stopped getting airplay and I guess I just went with the radio, like most young people. One day in August 2000 while cleaning my room, I came across my stack of CDs - I only had a five: the first 3 Oasis, Urban Hymns, and Fastball's All thePain Money Can Buy - and remembered how much I used to like Oasis. I put BHN on for nostalgia and I was blown away again.
The next day I went out and got TMP and that started my descent into Oasis madness. First stop: the forums!
Also, how great is it to hear that someone got into Oasis through Magic Pie? Noel ought to hear that.

My 1st Oasis concert was the famous Sheffield Arena show. 1st Arena show for Oasis, 10'000 sell out, last night of Definitley Maybe tour and the fans on the arena floor climbed over the barriers. Mental. Don't Look Back in Anger was played for the first time. It would also be Tony McCarroll's last gig. One week later Some Might Say went straight in at no 1 in the UK charts. These really were the days. And this is before they released Morning Glory. Mental times indeed!

I remember as a child hearing champagne supernova a lot on the radio. However i didn't take any notice because i was pretty young. I found out oasis through listening to the killers actually. I remember summer of 2004 i was really into the killers back then (still kinda am haha) went back and listened to bands that they cited as influences. Oasis was on there. I went on itunes and I recognized Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova from my childhood. I listened to all the 30 second clips and none of them turned me off. I went to the record store and just bought every album. I can say 7 years later has been so much better with their music in my life.
I remember just being blown away by DM and WTSMG and actually most of their stuff in general actually. There was a period in my musical life where Oasis was almost like a drug. I needed to find out everything about them, find all the b-sides, find all the unreleased material, ect. It's something that is kinda hard to explain and they are still easily my favorite band ever and probably will be for the rest of my life because in some ways they changed it; but that initial excitement that lasted a couple months was magical. I just remember my ears being opened to nothing that i had ever heard before. That is probably something that will never happen again with another band.

^^^ I totlly get the like a drug reference..it was the same for me
when I first heard that
line in Champagne supernova ' cos people believe that were gonna get away for the summer'
my mind was blown and I knew this was the band for me..where had they been all my life..but all I knew was that i made an instant connection with them..and when i found out about their personalities it didnt turn me off..it gave me confidence in real life
to the point where people would say i was acting too much like liam gallagher haha..oh well i grew up from that
but yeah its hard to explain..and theres a magic in oasis..look at 99% of the lyrics they are non-sensical
But they make sense to me
and thats all I have to say

Great thread!
For me it was 2008. A pal of mine was trying to get me addicted to Oasis, sending me youtube videos, etc, and I resisted initially, having been a snobby Beatlemaniac since the age of 13, but finally a song got through to me: Songbird. It was simply a perfect song, and I couldn't deny it. I listened to some other songs, and they sounded strangely familiar to me, and I suddenly recalled great memories of falling in love with Wonderwall and DLBIA on the school bus as a kid, back when the songs first came out. Back then I was too young to be into music, but those songs made an imprint on my brain anyway.
My friend bought me a ticket and I ended up going to the gig on 8th December 2008, and that sealed the deal. Oasis forever! They are right up there next to the Beatles for me. Now I have all the albums, Wibbling Rivalry, and 17 or 18 of the singles (soon to be more if they can just make it over the ocean - I need those B-sides!!).

1995. Saw the video for Wonderwall and I hated it!! lol.. My brothers were like "come on, this song is awesome", I wasn't into it at all. But I guess after giving it some more listens I really started to like it. A couple years later around the "Be here Now" Era a friend of my brother had a sister who loved Oasis and she had all these B-sides on a cassette that I had never heard of. Instantly knew that this band would not be just another fad with me, it would last a lifetime

It's fun how so many people had an initial negative response towards the band.
It happened the same to me, I remember changing the channel every time I found the Who Feels Love video on TV, because this band seemed like a bunch of arrogants and hated the song (for the record, I love the song and the vid, now ;D)
I did find out afterwards that that song Wonderwall that I liked was from the same band, and that was the time I used to download music and burn my own cds, like 10 years ago. It's funny I realized that I had an Oasis song in each of the cds, and loved every song that I heard from them, from Supersonic to Go Let It Out (my personal favorite that time and still in my top 3) so I figured that they must be my favorite band, but nothing near being a real fan.
It had to go all the way to 2005 and listening to Lyla for the first time, being absolutely blown away and listening to that song nonstop like a million times. Then I started to really get into the band, downloading all their music, getting in a forum and stuff like that, and it was like Cast said, a sort of addiction, a sudden urge to get every song, to know everything about them, and from that point it was history.
Btw, seeing that many remember the exact date, I listened to Lyla for the first time on April 30, 2005 ;D

It definitely was the Wonderwall video back in the summer of '96. I believe that's when it really was being spun on MTV in America. Went to the opening of the brand-new Super Wal-Mart and my mom got me WTSMG (I was 12).
Same summer I bought DM at Tower Records while on vacation in Philadelphia. That record seemed so much edgier than WTSMG, with Live Forever and Supersonic standing out immediately. Listened to that on the DiscMan non-stop.
Remember buying BHN after hearing DYKWIM on the radio all summer long. Got it at the now defunct Circuit City. Stand By Me being the early standout, only because that's the one my brother said he enjoyed as he drove me to and fro.
Then of course, a new fangled thing at the time, I saw on the internet the Chicago show for '98. I was in typing class, and good enough with my speed that I had this extra time to cruise the 'net. Saw the show, begged my dad, and we were late enough that we had limited view seating on Noel's side of the stage, but good enough for me. Went and saw that show and never looked back.
Chicago 98/Milwaukee 00/Wembley 2nd night 00/Chicago 01/Chicago 02/Milwaukee 04/Chicago 05/San Diego 05/Phoenix 05/Las Vegas 08.....Final show, The Pearl was awesome. Very mellow crowd, was standing oly 15 ft from center stage on the floor with plenty of room around me. Saw Ricky Hatton and Russell Brand as well.
Was a huge bootleg trader from 00-02. Still have shed loads of discs collecting dust in my room at home and one or two perturbed traders still listing my home address as a bad trader on their websites...fuck 'em...

Respected them, liked a few of their songs (mainly Noel sung ones) but didn't have any of their records. I bought CDs but I can't say I was a massive music fan.
The moment that got me I remember. I'd never heard Don't Look Back In Anger in it's entirety so one night I remember sitting in the living room reading a book and I had the music channel on in the backround - some countdown of Greatest Indie Bands. Was expecting some shite to come number one but it was Oasis and they played the DLBIA video, thought 'hey ho, can't say I'm a big fan but can't complain, loads of people love them'.
Got back to my book for a second but was quickly transfixed to the song and video. The bit that really got me, and still does to this day, was the pre-chorus bit when Noel sings "You ain't never gonna burn my heart out". I'd heard the chorus countless times but that bit leading up to the chorus just struck a chord with me and I fell in love with music - it was like a key that unlocked a hidden, secret passage of my conscience that was full of endless treasure. It's one of the most beautiful melodies ever and wonderfully sung by Noel. I was just amazed and I knew I'd found my favourite band.
I've become obsessed with music since, buying so much CDs and learning instruments. All because of that one song and that pre-chorus moment in Don't Look Back In Anger.
