Saw them for the first time tonight. Great show and I had great tickets. About 20 rows back. Combination of pop hits, darker tunes and hard jams. Very pleasantly surprised.
They turned 'Killing An Arab' into a hard rock tune.
Glad I went!

uh for years the whole gothic style turned me off. i thought i didnt like their music at all....until i came across the album bloodflowers. underrated is an appropriate term that applies to this band. they have accumulated a catalogue of pretty good songs. i guess one problem is they're not a classic british rock'n'roll band like the stones or oasis but rather a representation of pure british indie art from the 80s. edit* theyre also one of them bands that the rolling stone hates with a vengeance

One of the first bands I saw live, way back on the tour they did to promote their album "Faith"
I remember they had a really weird video that they showed before they came on called "Carnage Visors" ... why my memory still retains this after 40+ years will forever be a mystery!
They lost me after the Pornography album. Maybe I should give them another go? After all, it has been over 40 years ...

You can hear the full soundtrack to Carnage Visors on the deluxe reissue of Faith.

It's incredible that they're still in a top form after decades. Saw them last year for the second time again and Robert Smith's voice never gets old.

I hope so, it's been too long. And I remember Robert Smith said the album was almost finished like two years ago.

I’ll be glad to finally hear this. I just hope Robert’s obsessive tinkering hasn’t done more harm than good.

The new album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, where a certain 1995 mega-hit was recorded...

An excellent single by the cure today. Got major Disintegration vibes.

Really like the new single and Robert smith still sounds great. Kind of reminds me of Underneath The Stars with some Disintegration/Bloodflowers vibes. I felt the song writing got a bit lightweight on their last album 16 years ago Underneath The Stars excluded), kind of like they just recorded the first early versions of songs and didn't develop them much but this song sounds more like what what I want from them and sounds more inspired. Really looking forward to the new album.

I'm hoping for some quality on this album, as it only has 8 tracks. Pornography and Faith both also have 8 songs and both of them are fantastic of course.

I don't think any of The Cure's albums are shit -- though 4:13 Dream did stray perilously near to shitness with the run of songs on its second side.
There are good moments on each of those albums. But they are all plagued with issues: usually excessive length (arising from Robert Smith's lack of quality control), and unflattering production and mixing.
The Cure's post-Wish recording career until they came to a halt at the end of the 00s was like David Bowie in the 90s and early 00s: flashes of greatness, but never quite able to recapture former glories or forge a new direction for themselves going forward.

I think this was the song they opened with when I saw them in Dec 2022. They played 5-6 new ones that night, all very similar in style to this one - lengthy, brooding, somewhat hypnotic and of course dark. Reminds me more of the darker bits of Wish than Disintegration but definitely very happy to fear more. The song ends just as it builds to its climax, leaving you wondering what the next song will be.
I agree that it is a bit reminiscent of a more brooding Underneath the Stars, which is one of their best post-Wish songs. Bloodflowers is one of my top Cure albums.

Yeah- was definitely the opener when I saw them on that tour, at which they were phenomenal.
