I get a strong Arcade Fire feel in this track. That's the vibe I got from Rattling Rose too. They're a good band for Noel to take inspiration from and a good direction for Noel.

You'd be remissed if you didn't talk about this tune while discussing Supergrass:

Wonderwall Live Forever Champagne Supernova Don't Look Back in Anger Rock n Roll Star I think this, but maybe trade RNS star for Half The World Away or Little by little Half the World Away might take the cake, given it's use in media & covers of it and how recognizable it is, or even Stop Crying Your Heart Out given how successful it was at the time and how fresh it still sounds.

I don't know how I never heard this song until it popped up on my Spotify shuffle tonight, but it blew my damn mind with how good it is:

I like Rattling Rose and don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong but it seems like the places where it should be more funky with that damn tasty bassline, it just isn't funky enough, and where it's space-y, it's not space-y enough. I like the funky space jazzy vibes on this song but it just seems like there should be something more to it and the ingredients are there. I get that Noel and David didn't want Riverman pt. 2 or The Right Stuff pt. 2, in an effort to tread new ground, but it's just missing that one thing to really make it take off like it should at some point. Still a good song though that goes a lot of places in just 3 minutes & 35 seconds.

The logo would be better above the word "Standing". Seek it out and ye shall find... five and a half years later: imgur.com/cLTrR95There's almost some symbolism to it, too, where the old Oasis is sort of going into a dark period and taking the audience with them, hence the placement of the logo where it is. I sort of like that

Personally I think the song deserves a higher rating than 5.498. Sure, the video is shit, but who cares? The song is good, and something different for Noel. It's a solid 7.5/10, erring on an 8. I'd much rather have him doing something creative and different with some interesting layers than more of the same stuff (e.g. If I Had a Gun and The Dying of the Light; Lock All the Doors). I think people need to separate the song from the video.

Off the top of my head,
Let's All Make Believe Full On Idler's Dream I Believe in All Lord Don't Slow Me Down
Worth mentioning is Shout it Out Loud, One Way Road, Boy With the Blues, I Can See it Now, and Eyeball Tickler.
The thing these songs have in common is that they're very melodic or rock-y, but they're a little different from other stuff in the Oasis catalog. I like mentioning IBIA because it sounds like Oasis doing This Charming Man, which is a nice nod to The Smiths, which Oasis didn't overtly show hints of in the sound.

This is amazing!! I'm in love with Iz Rite (To Fly), and What a Life? is epic too. Iz Rite (To Fly) feels like 90s Oasis put through a technicolor, New Order-tinged lens.
The Right Love really makes good use of the different parts in The Right Stuff, and Damaging Words just kicks ass, as does For What It's Worth and a lot of this compilation. Well done!

I hate how the video is emphasising Noels moves cutting back from the mic and screwing his face up like he's chewing a lemon on the high notes. Like they're trying to brand him. It used to be cool but now it's cheesy as fukc. The turtle neck and necklace aren't helping. They should've just kept it to the clips and animations and let the band have a day off. There's so many other directions that Noel and his team could be taking with the videos besides the dad rock-like trite he's come out with for Black Star Dancing and This is the Place. They're cool-sounding, good songs and the artwork is awesome, but the videos let it down hard. I understand that videos don't mean much these days, but it'd be nice to see Noel get the aesthetics right across the board, instead of 2 out of 3. Like have some storytelling going on, or do some sort of trippy collage video. Tame Impala has some very good videos that Noel could go off of for reference:

Did Oasis even really need to replace Bonehead and Guigs in 1999? Noel could have continued to pump out studio material. Shit he played most of the bass anyways it seems behind the scenes. Not a bad drummer so they say. Could hire any two yahoos to stand on stage for a tour. That's an interesting thought. I think they could've pulled it off and it would've meant that Noel had full creative freedom of the band and been able to keep better content control to push the sound forward, with Liam doing vocals and his occasional tunes. Strangeboy as a guitarist and then some session musicians on bass and drums would've done the trick, with Spike Stent as a producer. Man I want this alternative history instead...

Forgot about GGTIA. Just listened to it for the first time. The sound explosion at the end of the track should have been saved and made the foundations of a new tune. No one can break us, no one can take us, if they tried. Brilliant. Honestly, they should've ended the song before the sound explosion. The explosion just sounds too tacked on and cheesy and would've been better as you recommended.

What if Oasis stopped after 3 albums ? I mean they made such amazing songs and concerts and prestations during those 3 first LP and many singles. What could happen if the Gallagher decided to fight and stop in1999 ? If they had done so, then Noel would've started his solo career way earlier and possibly even scored some #1s with his solo career; Liam too. Had they stopped fighting in 1999, then SOTSOG would've been a better record with recorded Liam vocals for songs like Full On and Revolution Song, with more fleshed-out songs, being that it wouldn't be just Noel and Strangeboy who was giving a fuck about the record. I think that would've helped them come into the 21st century properly, instead of how they did it in such a half-baked way.

"Full on" is one of my favorite Noel vocal Oasis songs. And a pretty great song in general! Everyone wants a Liam-sung Record Machine or Liam-sung Stop the Clocks but what would've been great is a Liam-sung Full On. That would've been a banger. Great tune that's a lot of fun, in an era that didn't have as much of that, with a fine guitar solo too. It should've definitely gotten Liam vocals and been on SOTSOG instead of Put Yer Money...

Whenever I see people arguing about the brothers, raging about Noel's direction or Liam's songwriting credits I feel very glad to be able to enjoy the releases of both of them. I think people don't realize how lucky we are for getting all these new music 10 years after Oasis broke up. I'm 100% with you on this, and I think people are extra hard on Noel's new music, especially since it is a bit different, which is highly, highly ironic given how much some fans were clamoring for Noel to do something different and now that he is, those same people are panning it hard and praising Liam's music which is more in the style of Oasis. Moral of the story, you can't please people completely and we just gotta enjoy what we're getting because it's pretty awesome. Noel's got some exciting & different, new stuff that's good and Liam's got some exciting new stuff that's also good. Altogether, the spirit of Oasis is still alive and well.

Anyone else like Chvrches? Really catchy synth pop and the singer's voice is gorgeous. Most people have heard Here with Me but it's well worth delving into their albums. Can't recommend one standout song as so many are great, give them a listen if you're in the mood for that type of thing I fucking love CHVRCHES. I haven't been frequenting here as often as the past but this past year that band has been the band and super into them. They're so good. I saw them at the Basilica Block Party last month and they were an awesome live act, and seeing them live was a dream. I'll build off your post for others... similar to Oasis, the first album is a strong debut and the second is a great, mature step from there; The Mother We Share, Gun, Clearest Blue, and Leave a Trace are good songs to start with to get a taste of the albums they're off of. The third album is a bit of a step down from the first two, but it's still good; Graffiti and Wonderland are among the standouts on the album. (Also Now is Not the Time is another song to check out!)

Yes! This Tour has been awesome. I'm amazed at how well Alaphilippe has been able to hang on but if he cracks, Thomas, Kruijswijk, and Pinot are gonna be there to battle for GC. My hope is that Alaphilipe can hang on to pull off an upset, but seeing a close battle for GC would be cool too. It's amazing how when you take out just one rider (Chris Froome), this whole thing gets blown wide open.
As far as the other riders, Wout Van Aert has been cool to watch and has made an impressive debut in the Tour. Tim Wellens is doing a solid job, and Peter Sagan is as good as ever, and he even signed an autograph & did a wheelie, all in today's stage! Vive le Tour.

One of the biggest crimes of post 2000 Oasis was Liam not singing enough songs. Too right. I was thinking about this the other day. You know that for their last three albums Liam sung a grand total of eight songs written by Noel.
To me Oasis was Liam’s voice singing Noel’s melodies and lyrics. Don’t Look Back in Anger, Masterplan, all that: they’re wonderful songs very pleasantly sung; but that dynamic of the Songwriter handing his compositions over for the Singer to sing separated Oasis off from other bands. How remarkable that they had a songwriter who was an innately talented melodist, AND a singer with a one-of-a-kind voice...Oh, and they just happened to be from the same family! I disagree with your claim that Oasis effectively died after Be Here Now; but, looking at the statistics, I can’t help but wonder whether Noel didn’t sort of give up on them after the (relative) failure of that album. I know he stuck with the band for another ten years, and they made a lot of music—some of which he must’ve been excited about at the time—but why didn’t he feel stronger about preserving that setup which everyone loved, that had served them so well? For reference, that's: The Hindu Times Stop Crying Your Heart Out Probably All in the Mind (one of these things is not like the other...) Lyla Let There Be Love Bag it Up The Turning The Shock of the Lightning Go figure, all but one of those eight tracks are highlights of the 2000s. I think that's why it's such a shame about Record Machine, Stop the Clocks, and Come on Outside. With that potent duo, those songs would've been top notch for Oasis.

Stop Crying Your Heart Out is a genuinely beautiful song and Liam's vocals are icing on the cake for it. The string arrangement and guitar flourishes are top notch as well.

This video is rather scathing towards BHN, but it has some valid points.
D'You Know What I Mean? is good in its guitar and strings work, and works in the context of the hype of the band, but it sucks as a lead single for how long it is and when Don't Go Away was waiting in the wings as the obvious lead single choice.
My Big Mouth works well as track two, but Magic Pie is dreadful and goes nowhere, even if it may have some cool sounding chords in the chorus. Stand By Me is good but way, way too long and repetitious. Much like the rest of the album, it's too overblown for its own good and is just a hard pill to swallow when you see what's preceded it. The comments on All Around the World are a little harsh, but I think that the strings and horns sections should've been louder and Liam's vocals should've been limited to just the main lyrics until the end for the "Na na na"s to happen.
It's an album with very good songs and a couple mediocre ones (Magic Pie; Fade In-Out teeters on it) but just horrible handling of it all, and the video above brings up some decent points regarding this.

Kind of a Dead in the water type of song if noel didnt overproduce this. I just realized this is a bit sentimental
Though a bit dumbfounded why people are not a fan of this. Chorus is definitely strong and sounds like a better effort compared to Stand by Me
This is the way the song should've been done. Acoustic with some nice piano flourishes and Noel's vocals, and right around 3 minutes, 30 seconds long. It was too much to have the DLBIA-like drums and solo, as well as the overblown electronic choir in the background. It tried to find a light at the end of the tunnel, but with the "Cos it never works out right" line at the end especially, it just doesn't work. The more-acoustic approach puts forth more of the raw emotion that this song possesses.

Great point about "The Fly". It should have been this.......... 1. Even Better Than The Real Thing 2. One 3. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses 4. Until the End of the World 5. The Fly 6. Mysterious Ways 7. Numb 8. Lemon 9. Stay 10. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me 11. Discothèque 12. If God Will Send His Angels 13. Staring at the Sun 14. Gone 15. Please If I was chosen album cuts as well as singles I'd go 1. The Fly 2. Even Better Then The Real Thing 3. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (Temple Bar mix) 4. Until The End of The World 5. One 6. Mysterious Ways 7. Ultraviolet 8. Numb 9. Lemon 10. Stay 11. Your Blue Room (it's a U2 track in all but name) 12. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me 13. Miss Sarajevo 14. Discotheque 15. Last Night On Earth 16. Mofo 17. Staring At The Sun 18. If God Will Send his Angels 19. Please 20. Electrical Storm (new track). I really like this track listing, especially especially especially Mofo and also including Electrical Storm. The William Orbit mix is the best version of the song imo and I always enjoy it whenever it comes on and it resonates with me past when I listen to it. I'd just throw in Beautiful Day and Walk On in after Please and that would be a perfect track listing.

Because the band chose to include tracks from the year 2000 (Beautiful Day, Stuck In A Moment) plus two other new tracks (electrical storm, hands that built America) it blocked out more deserving material from their 90s run. That is all that should be on the 1990 to 2000 comp. just like 1980-1990 only has 80s stuff. Even more embarrassingly about the 1990-2000 comp is that The Fly, arguably the most defining song of the 1990-2000 era, was only available on the UK and Japan releases, while newer songs like Beautiful Day and Stuck in a Moment... and sugar-coated mixes of Discotheque, Gone, and Staring at the Sun made it on there. Additionally, Lemon and Zooropa were both omitted in favor of The First Time, which is good but not superior to the first two. I didn't mind Electrical Storm being on there since I love that song and that specific mix, and The Hands That Built America is decent, but Lemon, Zooropa, and The Fly being omitted was not good at all when they were some of the best of that era.
