Who Put The Weight of the World on My Shoulders - I try to like everything Noel does but this is just boring as piss.
I'm Outta Time - don't hate it but GGTIA should be recognized as Liam's best song.

Really? I was gonna post the same thing, but I guess every song has someone out there who likes it.

Yep, I knew about those shows. I randomly bought one of Acetone's CDs at a resale shop ages ago because I liked the cover and they became one of my favorite bands, then I found out about them opening for Verve and Oasis.

On the subject of Tailgunner, one of the songs on that LP is called Acetone, which is actually a song by the band of the same name (it's called Endless Summer) but Acetone isn't credited. Does anyone know the story behind that?

When TMP came out, I didn't have any regular internet access but just happened to be lucky enough to see a tv ad for it when it was released so I knew it was out there. I picked it up at Best Buy and took it home to listen to it thinking it was a whole new album. Then I read the liner notes and found out it was a b-side compilation. I'm not sure I even knew what a b-side was at the time, but that's when I started taking every chance I had to get on AOL and find places to order all the CD singles.
Of course then I started learning that there was a backlash after Be Here Now and that was why it was hard to find Oasis on tv anymore. I wondered how TMP would have been received if the songs weren't previously released and it had been released as its own album, either replacing BHN/SOTSOG or as an in-between.
I'm not sure what songs I would take out or add. I guess you wouldn't want IATW on there, and Listen Up and Fade Away took a while for me to warm up to, but overall it flows like a normal album. I doubt it would have preserved their phenomenon status, but they'd have been remembered more favorably.

The sociopath (btw, did you get that phrase from Sherlock?) No, I was working on a Walter White vs. Dexter Morgan question and it grew into that. What phrase are you referring to?

Be paid less for something I love.
Would you rather be an overly empathetic and good hearted person who does nothing but screw up and make things worse for everyone you try to help, or a high functioning sociopath who has a profound positive effect on people, but only because it coincides with your job (e.g. surgeon) leaving you with no emotional connection to them?

I don't want to share too much, and I'm not qualified to give you too much advice, but I'll share that I know what it's like to be literally friendless and I know what it's like to be kicked in the gut by the few people you do manage to get close to. The world is so much bigger than those people; the sooner you accept that, the quicker you can move on.
21 is a very tough year to be feeling like a failure. My advice on that is, don't worry about where society says you should be in life. People say that by 16 or 18 or 21 or 25 or 30 you should have a drivers license, move out of your parent's home, finish school, get married, have a second credit card, so on and so forth. You may or may not hit those milestones in time. That's okay. Nobody gets off to the same start. Just do what you're able and willing to do with the cards you've been dealt. In a few years when you've done at least some of the things you want do, the exact age you were isn't going to matter.
And you're worth something to me. I may not know you, but if I got word of anyone on this board killing themselves, I would be very saddened by it. People at the concerts you go to need you to toast drinks with and bump into them. People on here need you to like their posts and give your opinions on Oasis. That's something. You're not worthless.

I dreamed once that I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they were closed but I met Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in the parking lot and they gave me a haircut. We started talking about 'Sympathy For The Devil' and I asked Mick if he believed in god and he said something about a higher power. I dreamed that I got in a heated sarcasm laced fight with Tom Hanks as he was walking away from my house. He got in his car and as he drove off I told him Turner & Hooch sucked. Years after he died I dreamed that I was in a public restroom with Owen Hart. He said all these funny things making me laugh and kept going in and out of the same stall and every time he came out he was dressed as a different gimmick from each stage of his career. The last time he came out dressed as Fat Bastard from the Austin Powers movies, which made perfect sense to me because in my dream he had played that role. Whilst we're on the subject, does anyone experience pain whilst in a dream? I don't know if I've ever dreamed physical pain, but after my dog died I dreamed he walked into my bedroom, stood next to the bed and let me pet him as if he was saying goodbye. I could feel him just as much as if it had been real.

I've been watching horror movies every night for the past week or so. I don't know, I've never done this before, but something about this year is making me get into it. Last night I watched a movie called Frozen. Not the Disney movie -- something entirely different that came out in 2010. It's about three people who get forgotten and trapped on a ski lift in the middle of the night when the park closes for two weeks. It's not the most conventional plot for a horror movie, but it's a very scary situation that could actually happen. Not the best horror movie ever, but I'd recommend it. The Rob Zombie-directed version of Halloween is pretty good. And I watched the Saw series. The first 5/7 are free if you have Amazon Prime. The first three or so aren't as gory as these movies have a reputation for, but I like the psychology. And try The Cabin in the Woods if you like comedy horror. They don't overdo the comedy and the visuals are still pretty badass. See The Shining, if you've never seen that. People say Jack Nicholson's acting makes it unintentionally funny, and that's true, but it's still probably one of the best horror movies ever. I highly recommend going to cinemassacre.com and checking out their YouTube channel. They're doing video reviews of contemporary and classic horror movies every day in October.

Saw III. I'm going through the series on Amazon Prime. I'm a little disappointed in the lack of graphic gore, given what these movies have a reputation for, and I'm watching the unrated versions. But the plotlines and psychology are pretty well written.

And for what it's worth, Noel should go into the headphone department. Wouldn't have the namesake Dre does, but I'd bet it would be a shed times higher quality! Go on, Noel. Shines by Noel?

Wow you guys. So did you end up getting either one? Apparently the color fades out. So they will get less popish as time goes by. I say go for the blue with the black back because the wood variation you end up with might just bug you as much as the orange. I actually ended up getting the orange/ebony. My reasoning was that whichever I chose for the back, I could just get a case later with the opposite choice, and a leather case sounds better than a wood case. It was marked 'delayed shipping' so I'm expecting it first week next month. There's a 14 day return window for buyer's remorse, so if I don't think the orange is working out I'll send it back and get the same options on the next phone but with the olive green accent. That's more of a grown up color to me. To the person who said they prefer iOS, I probably would too, and I'll be using this phone to replace my iPod touch 4gen which has a shot battery after I've enjoyed it for about five years, but I just can't justify the expense for an iPhone at this point. I'm sure Android's alright. I kinda laughed and assumed the thread was done when the blue/leather was up 8-0 and I just got one brisk remark saying that wood looks shit. I guess it's a niche taste.

I voted for icing on the cake, but I almost went with the 'not at all' option.
I don't like when songwriters put "messages" in their songs. I don't like being told what to think. It's nice if I agree with what's being said, but what if I don't want to think about it at the time and just want to hear the song?
I like lyrics that tell stories, but again, I have be in the right mindset to hear those.
I could almost say that I don't want the lyrics to mean anything. The album that first really got me into music was Dark Side of the Moon and most of the lyrics on there were very spacey and ambiguous so I loved trying to figure out what they meant and just applying my own meanings to them. I listen to bands like Acetone and Stereolab without thinking of what they're saying because I can't usually make it out anyway.
What I love about Noel's songwriting is, he can write gibberish, but it's first class gibberish. The words sound like they're the meaning of life, but they're abstract enough that I could listen to them at any time and let whatever thoughts I have run through them. And when he does have something to say, he doesn't ram it down your throat.
But one of the most well known examples of that is Journey - Don't Stop Believing. Terrible lyrics, if they're judged by their own strength. But everyone knows them, and they fit the song so well, and they're sung so passionately, even though really it's just a few random stories that drop off in the middle of nowhere. But you're lead to think it all relates to the chorus, and then the music picks it up, and it feels like it's saying something without weighing it down by actually saying that much.

So far I've voted for:
2004 - George W. Bush (sorry) 2008 - Barack Obama 2012 - Rocky Anderson
I'm more than happy to vote for Bernie Sanders in the general election if he makes it, but I think the establishment Dems are trying to sabotage him as much as the GOP is trying to sabotage Trump. Part of me wants to see Sanders vs. Trump just for that reason. Trump getting that far would be an embarrassment in its own right, for sure, but I think after we've seen Sarah Palin get within an old man's ticker of the presidency, that horse has already left the barn.
If it's Hilary, then I might just vote third party again. Not that I hate Hilary so much, but I believe in voting my conscience and supporting people I actually want. I won't vote just to keep the other guy out anymore.

I'm about to buy my first Android smartphone and it's a 2014 Moto X. It's a customizable phone that lets you choose the color for the front, back, and accent ("accent" referring to the speaker grilles on the front and the little ring around the Motorola logo on the back.) For an extra $25 you can get a leather or wood back. I've narrowed my choice down to two combinations, but it's impossible to choose. I'm down to either: black front/black leather back/blue trim or black front/ebony back/orange trim The accents are metallic so they look brighter or darker depending on lighting. The pics from the Moto Maker site aren't really all that accurate so here's a couple videos: I like the orange because on the back it looks like you're looking at a fireplace or a campfire. I like the blue because it's more futuristic looking. On the one hand, I'd be really excited about the orange, but I worry that it's too loud a color and after a while I'm not going to want to see it every time I look at my phone. On the other hand, the blue is a safer choice because I'll always like blue, but then that also makes it dull by comparison. Then there's the material ... it's real wood and real leather, although I understand the wood is just a finish on a different type of wood so it wouldn't be real ebony. I can't decide if I like how leather feels enough to have it in my hand for long periods of time or not, particularly on hot days. (And do I need another cow to die just so I can have a cool phone? I hear the backing track to "Meat Is Murder" as I ponder that question.) Some people say to get neither because they get banged up easily, but I take good care of my stuff. No telling me to get another phone because I'm going with Republic Wireless to save money and this is all they have other than the cheap Moto E. I know the 2015 MX is out now but 1) RW doesn't have it yet and 2) the backs on those are butt ugly. It's probably silly to obsess this much over a phone and I've thought about just ordering all black plastic with a grey or silver trim to keep it simple and be done with it, but for all the time I'll be spending with it I want it to look good. I can only decide for myself of course, but you guys share my taste in music so I guess you'd have good taste in style too. Thanks. www.motorola.com/us/motomaker?pid=FLEXR2

I'm just about to buy a new smartphone and that's not available in the US yet but I think a music focused phone by a company like Marshall is a great idea. It's definitely the coolest looking phone I've seen and I love the name; it'd just be fun to be at a diner and pull out my "London." The specs aren't super impressive for the price but I would hope the superior music experience would make up the difference. I might have to get one someday.
Imagine what an Orange Crush phone would look like.

I'm an agnostic atheist, or "soft" atheist. The existence of a god cannot be proved or disproved, so I wouldn't technically be on board with the statement "there is no god," as that would require evidence I don't have and hence be as much an issue of faith as theism. But I also believe that in the absence of hard empirical evidence the next best thing is to ask how *likely* is it that there's a god. Possibility doesn't mean probability. I don't believe in anything so strongly as to say it can't possibly not be so; so I care more about the likelihood of something being real than trying to just simplify it to yes or no. But the probability of a god as we would commonly think of one is so thin as to say we might as well assume for the sake of living that there is no such entity.
