He seems to be getting his best reviews since the mid-90s. Stange that the consensus here is that the songs we've heard are pretty weak.

Minimalistic review for a so called "specialised magazine"

"It’s just a shame, then, that the magic Noel is looking to recreate can only be found buried under such a sterile surface" Sums up most of that record really. Well at lest after a couple of listen. Its very safe and unoffensive. Its not baaaad, but its not great. Its 2023.

The Times (5/5) www.thetimes.co.uk/article/the-best-new-music-albums-records-singles-tpwn520g5Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds Council Skies ★★★★★ As the Oasis reunion Doomsday Clock moves closer toward midnight, the older Gallagher returns with his most Oasis-like album yet. There are the diversions that have peppered his solo releases — the moody Pretty Boy has a drum machine, the stuff of Oasis fans’ nightmares — but elsewhere a familiar mix of melancholy, hopefulness and soaring abandon. The difference this time is that it is filtered through the ravages of age. Dead to the World is beautiful, an uncertain lament with shades of the Zombies’ psychedelic pop classic Odessey & Oracle; Open the Door, See What You Find joyfully employs Beatles-like orchestration; and Easy Now paints a picture of strangers in the night against the kind of rousing, melodic uplift that made Don’t Look Back in Anger such a standard. It’s a reminder of why Oasis, using a few recycled T-Rex riffs and a lot of attitude, became one of the biggest bands of the Nineties, and it’s a belter. (Sour Mash)

I know he can be a bit of a c unt, and I'm not sure myself where I'd rank this album among HFB releases yet, but I'm happy it's been received so well so far

But will Fantano review it? Hope he likes it so Noel can leech from his audience a little. I think it could do well in America.

He seems to be getting his best reviews since the mid-90s. Stange that the consensus here is that the songs we've heard are pretty weak. It makes me wonder whether dripping out the songs like he has - especially in the order he has - wasn't the best way to present this record. If the reviewers were giving it a couple of listens in its entirety and writing better reviews than we've given what we've heard so far, perhaps it works better in a 10 song burst than in drips an drabs. I'm still underwhelmed by what I've heard so far, but I'm happy about new Noel music regardless. All day I've been occasionally remembering that I get to see him live tomorrow night - so exciting!

It’s got 5 reviews, each at 80/100. How has it worked out the average to be 84!? 🧮 Don't know the details... remember reading somewhere that the score of high prestige publications has higher weight and that they tend to ignore outliers (so for instance if you have fifteen 8s and two 5s, you will still get an 8 as average). But not sure what is happening exactly in this case We’ve now got 7 reviews, all 80/100 and they’re still averaging it at 84 🙃

I don’t think anyone should pay any attention to the opinions of someone with a name like Tony Clayton-Lea

Haven't read all reviews, but I haven't yet seen the "most inspired effort from a Gallagher brother since 1995" that has been common in the reviews of all BDI, LG and NGHFB albums to date.
