The only one that I really like is Dead To The World. That can stand alongside the singles from his last 3 albums. The other 3 songs aren't up to the standard he usually puts out for singles though. Pretty Boy and Easy now are decent but I'm not feeling Council Skies at all. So far it's shaping up to be his weakest album so far. I'd put Trying To Find A World and We're Gonna Get There In The end about on par with Easy Now and Pretty boy so unless the few remaining song's we haven't heard are absolute bangers and end up causing everyone to scratch their heads about why they weren't chosen as singles I can't see how this one will be as good as his previous 3. Agreed. The unheard tracks have to be scorchers (and please do use that word) to salvage this record for me. "Dead to the World" has a filmic beauty which I like if not adore, while "Council Skies" and "Pretty Boy" are enjoyable-enough quasi-bangers that would've worked as bonus tracks for Chasing Yesterday. I've no time for "Easy Now". The verse melody is sweet, but the rest is stale mashed potato slopped out with one of the worst pre-choruses of Noel's career. I hate when he tries to write A Good Noel Gallagher Song. It always ignores the great things about his work in favour of another pass at "Little by Little". Like chewing on wet cardboard. After all, even in recent times, he's proven he can make Dad-pleasing music with actual flavour to it. An album of these sounds would've been much more appreciated, and I hope Council Skies finds time for them: I'm hoping it will be. Noel doesn't tend to put out really bad songs anymore and I'm hoping that as the record is described as eclectic that I really like the vibe of 2 or 3 of the unheard tracks so I can enjoy it more than the maybe the quality of songwriting deserves. 3 songs that fit into that category for me, one you've just linked in If Love Is The Law + In the Heat Of The Moment and Sail On I don't think are particularly brilliant, they probably wouldn't be highlighted much in quick reviews but there's just something about them that I love. You would assume that if there were any real 'scorchers' (sorry) they would have been lead singles because I don't think Noel or his management are dumb enough to hold songs like that back when building hype for an album or tour so I'm hoping among the alleged eclectic mix of songs are a few that I can just vibe to for whatever reason and it elevates the record for me.

My pre-release rank: Pretty Boy Council Skies Dead To The World Easy Now Pretty Boy .
Council Skies .
.
.
Dead to the World Easy Now
Council Skies has some weaknesses ("I believe in magical" is up there with Noel's all-time worse lines), but there's a lot about it I like and I've listened to it a ton already. DttW and Easy Now are dead boring. I can't muster up a single feeling about either of them, except that the pre-chorus on Easy Now is cheesy as hell.

For me Dead to the World is miles above the other singles but they have grown on me.
Easy now is too MOR. It's well crafted and I like the chorus melody but the production makes me feel a little sick. More Mumrock than Dadrock. Pretty Boy has a shocking chorus but I dig the groove of it. Council Skies is NG colour by numbers but I like the verses and pre-chorus a lot. It's the chorus that lets it down. Feels like it could use some Macca style bass to lift it up.
Hoping they all work in context of the album as a whole. High hopes!

1. "Dead to the World" 2. "Pretty Boy" 3. "Council Skies" 4. "Easy Now" Nothing that has left any great impression on me, so far. That's how I have it as well. Something about Council Skies reminds of Club Tropicana Easy Now is Noel on full autopilot.

Its worse than that, its like someone trying to sound like NG or Oasis yet failing miserably. 1; Dead to the World 2; Council skies if i'm really bored The other two can go f themselves.

I've no time at all for Chasing Yesterday which, barring two songs (Riverman and While The Song Remains), I can't bear to listen to. This album is shaping up to be just fine. But I've never felt the urge to go back to them after hearing them once. This is no sonic adventure I accept, but it's gonna need some Death of You and Me's, Broken Arrows, or Dead In The Waters to make the grade. I also hope it doesn't plummet the depths of the weakest points of the first two albums (in which case we are in trouble).#
At the moment, it sounds like latter Travis albums like Where You Stand. It's fine, I like it, which is pleasant enough. But Noel's at his best, whether in Oasis or going solo, when a drop of madness if thrown into the mix.

So The Right Stuff, Dying of the Light, In the Heat of the Moment, Ballad of the Mighty I, are crap? The only true stinker on that record is Lock All The Doors because of the dadrock. If it's AS good as Chasing Yesterday that'd be a solid record I believe.

In fairness, I can listen to Ballad, even if it doesn't quite reach the epic heights its searching for, but the rest is instantly forgettable.

I prefer CY to NGHFB tbh The heights of CY are amazing and all so different to one another You have songs like The Right Stuff, Mighty I, The Dying of The Light, You Know We Can't Go Back and then Riverman and While The Song Remains The Same which are two of the best HFB tunes imo The rest is enjoyable, I only skip The Mexican
NGHFB has some great songs but when you listen to the whole thing the production really brings it down

Sardy's monotonous audio engineering is as much a defining characteristic on that record as it was on DBTT and DOYS, and pulls alot of potential out of those songs (minus DBTT cause, well you know).

Sardy really takes the life out of those songs plus I feel like some leftovers would've improved the album massively I know they're not exactly smashing hits but put Let The Lord Shine a Light On me and Alone on the Rope on there instead of Stop The Clocks and Record Machine (or Dream On) and you have an almost untouchable run of tunes

Agreed except I’d keep Dream On (why is this hated it’s a great pop tune)
And drop A Simple Game of Genius. Not exactly a bad song but I don’t know, my mind always get lost somewhere else while listening to it after a few secs. It’s a bit a bit a bit.. wait was I listening to it ?
And I f love wrong beach too

The recent AI version with Liam on vocals made me bounce, rather than turn green. Will never understand this phenomenon. I doubt it's the same reason for others.

Can’t stand Easy Now - utterly formulaic and dull. Can’t get into Pretty Boy and Council Skies is underwhelming. Dead to the World is good but need some better songs on the album than what I’ve heard so far.

Ok i know the feeling but for me that the ballad of mighty I, especially the pre chorus and that hideous guitar sound and chord change. Makes me wanna throw up for real. I have not listened to that song more than 5 times.
