I have only found two reviews in magazines / newspapers until now: "The Guardian (Alex Petridis, in page 18 of the G2 cultural supplement, released today): Section: What Alexis Enjoyed this week: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Holy Mountain. Whatever I was expecting from Gallagher’s collaboration with producer David Holmes, it wasn’t something this much fun – like Ricky Martin’s She Bangs recast as 21stcentury bovver glam, or Ça Plane Pour Moi covered by Wizzard." Very short, but I think it's remarkable because Petridis is usually a detractor of all things Gallagher and he is positive here The other one I found is this from 'Louder than War' (I also posted it in the Holy Mountain thread): louderthanwar.com/noel-gallaghers-new-glamtastic-single-thoughts/It's also positive I found a couple more (positive) but they are from what seem to be very small music blogs, so probably they are not relevant. UPDATE: Rolling Stone USA review (number 5 in The Playlist) "Both of the Oasis Bros have been killing it lately. Here Noel knocks out a glam stopper that's every bit as excellent as his finest Nineties moments"

I am terrible at these 'sounds like' things but this was an easy one for me. Not just because of the horns but the way the horns we're used. It's instant within 3 seconds.

He'll ban any mention of it sounding similar to Ricky Martin, in interviews. 100%

Saying it sounds like Ricky Martin is a lazy comparison. Does Hello sound like Gary Glitter? DLBIA like Imagine?

Saying it sounds like Ricky Martin is a lazy comparison. Does Hello sound like Gary Glitter? DLBIA like Imagine? Well Hello is directly lifted from Gary Glitter and hes credited for the song. DLBIA does use the intro to Imagine. So yeah they all do sound like each other.

Sure the live version from post 2000 uses the actual Imagine intro but the studio version just is an echo of Imagine and really just sounds like a random piano intro. I think people were going wild with the Beatles comparisons in 1995.

Its just used by people who dont like Oasis or even didnt want them to get the sort of recognition the beatles got. The most annoying thing is as time has gone on, Oasis and mainly Liam played straight into the stereotype on this and now we have many songs with beatles references and melodies lifted from John Lennon albums. But take the first two albums and you struggle to find any worthwhile comparisons.

The likes of She's Electric, DLBIA, RWI and arguably Wonderwall all sound Beatlesesque...

It takes one vocal riff and that's it, but it doesn't sound anything like the Gary Glitter song. Thankfully. It's the case with much of Noel's songwriting. The piano intro may take from Imagine but the overall song sounds nothing like it. Little tidbits here and there are lifted but there's no blatant plagiarism and he's able to make his own song out of them.

I didn't say any of it was plagiarism, I said it wasn't lazy to draw comparisons, and that's clearly demonstrated by the fact that Gary Glitter gets royalties for Hello.

Roll With It and Wonderwall sound Beatlesesque? In what way exactly? I don't hear it. The guitars and vocals on RWI, and the tune itself sounds very 60's to me. Wonderwall - the overemphasis on orchestra, a bit like Eleanor Rigby, or something from Sgt. Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour. I forgot about Whatever too. It doesn't rip off any specific song but just apes the Beatles 1967 sound - a mix of All You Need Is Love / Penny Lane / Magical Mystery Tour.

Shes Electric has the one little bit that was from Little Help From My Friends but the song is nothing like the Beatles. Its a homage to them. This is what i find quite baffling about the Beatles comparisons too. The media and in particular Beatles fans of that era attack Oasis for stuff like this but they're paying tribute? Its like how they try and pick up on anything Liam or Noel have said negatively about the Beatles. Why be the first to talk about the lasting impact they had if bands cant do things like that?
