LÃam's vocal can no longer elevate a great song to classic, nor can his vocals make an average song great anymore. I wouldn't call the song embarrassing but it's close.....
Would love to see him doing music along the lines of 'White Smoke', the remix.....love that song, one of my favorite post Oasis songs.....Gonna get everyone here who loves this song a free library card, expose them to some amazing music for free... Thanks. Tell me more... I'm drunk af....it's Saturday, no pics; well, I might post a pic, in this thread.... Thanks.

I played this song to some people today who don't like Oasis and actually don't know Liam Gallagher's name at all and they thought it was great. They listen to whatever is on a radio so I guess, Liam nailed it

I gave it a four after a few listens. I find it really cheesy and predictable, it's The Beat Goes On Part 2. Oh Lordy. Its not on that level of bad. Few things are......................Kill For A Dream..........................Keep The Dream Alive........................................... I love all these tracks.especially the beat goes on. It remains in my top10 post oasis tracks. 😜

Its a good song for Liam to get commercial success in my opinion but I am not into that kind of songs I have to say.
Some people call it beat goes on part two. In my head it sounds like a forced try to let people feel the be here now excitement again. The guitar sounds and string arrangment somehow sound pretty similar to me but I was nevee into be here now and it is still my least favourite oasis record.
It is too lovely in the chorus. I get along with the verse melody but it is just too damn lovely and I like when Liam sounds serious and a bit dark. This song will hopefully do fine cause I would be happy for him but it makea me miss the reduced acoustic record thats moody and dark.

I don't get it. What would you have Liam do? You said he's a singer right? Not a songwriter? Well he's signing all the songs on his debut and has polished writers crafting his tunes. That is his best possible play at the moment. In terms of collaborating with other artists and producers, well it's not 1996 or 2002 anymore. Maybe no one is calling Liam for his services. This could put him back on the map so to speak and then those other projects could possibly materialize. Give it time. Give Liam a chance. It's early people. The songs aren't there though, they're avarage at best and(in the UK at least) it IMHO won't do great. I'm not even convinced the album will get to number 1. If this is what Liam wants to do then fair enough but this is 2017 and not the 90s and he'll need to be prepared for a fairly poor chart run. I think even Noel will have to pull something special out of the bag to get a good chart run. Liam's profile is currently higher than it has been since the end of Oasis. You may not like the songs but WOG did well and while I don't think FWIW is in the top league it is a commercial song that should get some play. People don't seem to seperate what they think is good and what is good for the artist. Many have said Liam needs to put out something radio friendly and collaborate with professionals. He does both and still there is a problem. No one I think especially Liam thinks this the 90's, he's in his mid forties and was the lead singer of a band who's hey day was 20 years ago. He ain't going to be breaking any records, from what he's said so far he's aware of that. He seems to want to connect with enough people to keep going to put out another record. And whatever I personally think of the songs so far I think he giving that his best shot.

yesterday night i was channel hopping and was pleasently surprised when i found that noel's paris '15 was fully braodcasted on arte. great tv channel, europeans know what i mean.
while watching noel doing his thing, it struck me, why it works for him, but not for liam. there are several things:
1. the songs. noel always knew how to write a song, still does. he has that thing for melodies, which is god given. even his weakest outputs are miles better than what liam and his team came up with. his new songs don't sound as if he's trying to relive the past, but they sound like noel gallagher in 2015 (in that particular case), whereas liam's songs sound as if he's still trying to copy john lennon in 1995, or an oasis fan band, that tries to sound like oasis, and fails miserably. and the melodies are close to be ridiculous sometimes (especially in fwiw).
2. the band. noel's guys are (were, 2015...) clearly the better musicans. and it's not even close. and they're having a chemistry when they are playing together. they sound like real professionals, that have rehearsed for many, many hours.
3. noel delivers. always. if you attend a noel gig, you know what to expect. voice, songs, band. it'll be on par with his best performances before. liam you never know. could be hit, could be miss, could be a no-show.
these 3 things basically, where the songs take the major role. i was really surprised that i even somehow enjoyed his boring renditions of champagne supernova and dlbia. even the mexican, which i don't think it's a good song, i somehow enjoyed live. broken arrow, (stranded on) the wrong beach, dream on... etc. even noel by numbers dying of the light. they are from a song perspective so much superior to what i've heard from liam so far, it's hilarious. i only realized that when i watched that show yesterday after not having listend to noel's back catalogue in a while.

Should I be afraid for my 10/10? Of course its not live forever, stand by me or even I I m outta time, but still its an excellent tune, with great vocals n lyrics. It s different its more commercial but it's still liam, its in my head n I m happy about it. I feel it, on repeat... We don't have to compare everything with something else. Take it as it is. If you like it it's ok, if not it's ok too. I prefer to hear FWIW than most of all these shit radio tracks. Even if it's target is the same. But the difference is huge. Give that song airplay and then we can talk again about how a song can became even a classic. I mean f...... Ed Sheehan makes "classics" now...

The problem is that he's singing songs written by people who clearly have no idea how to write for him, or especially, his voice. He's singing generic pop songs that could just have easily burn sung by Adele or Sam Smith. Maybe others don't mind, but I have no interest in Liam doing that. Beige. You may be right that perhaps it's not as easy as I suggest to collaborate with the kind of people who I'd like him to, and maybe doing one album like this to get his name out there again is necessary and then he can go and do something a bit more interesting and geared to what he is about. I hope so anyway. I am quite sure Death in Vegas for instance will always pick up the phone. I'm not sure when Death In Vegas actually last did anything noteworthy? Like many have said, Liam is basically coming out almost from musical obscurity if not retirement here and they've actually done what needed to be done. Yes it's all a bit mechanic but it was either this or nothing at all IMO, and ultimately is all about proving to Noel that he can do it and it's worth another crack with Oasis in the near future.

I'd agree with points 2 and 3. The current lineup that Noel has is a far superior lineup than Liam has. Also, Noel is never really at risk for a Chicago situation to happen. However, I'd greatly disagree with #1. Noel released a 20+ year old song in Lock all the Doors that literally sounded like him trying to recapture Oasis's spirit, but comes off as as an Oasis fan band. Noel's weakest output is not better than Wall of Glass. If you're saying that The Mexican is better than Wall of Glass, then.....well, I'll just leave it to the doctor when he checks your ears.

I feel like the line "I played it to a bunch of people who aren't Oasis fans and they loved it" is the new version of the grade school line of "of course I have a girlfriend, she just lives in another town". I keep reading this stuff on various other band forums. Not just oasis. Does this stuff actually happen?!?

I keep reading this stuff on various other band forums. Not just oasis. Does this stuff actually happen?!? Not really mate, it´s not like that, at least for me. I actually have a group-chat on WhatsApp with my best mates where we talk a lot, share music, new stuff from all bands. And they are actually surprised with Chinatown and FWIW because it´s different from what they expect to come out of a Gallagher, specially Liam and they did not like WoG because it´s too repetitive and basically a loop of the same beat until the end. They are not Oasis fans by any means, and nor their opinion should be generalized but just goes to show that songs reach people in different ways. What we may consider good or exciting might be boring for another. That´s why i feel sometimes it makes no sense trying to convince users here that something is not that good, we are different in tastes. Discuss? Absolutely, but not force people to change their views on how good or how much they like a tune, because that cannot be changed, it´s our tastes at the end of the day. Of course there are exceptions, some stuff are just so bad that i can´t imagine like someone can like it...Little James comes to mind.

It's not about telling people how to rate music, it's more about questioning the extremes. I've seen people questioning peoples judgement of people who like this song as much to give it a 10. That's up to them whatever their reason. Different music resonates differently with different people. Members of an Oasis message board should recognise that given how much grief they had to endure from 2000 onward. Just let people enjoy what they like, however extreme that may seem to you.

I've asked a handful of people of varying hygiene levels. The clean ones - who I actually socialise with - love it. The rotters - with whom I feel weirded out communicating with even by email - they actually love it.
To summarise: music is not soap.

I enjoy learning about people's varied interests in music. On a micro level, this is a key reason why I participate in this forum. At no point in my posts did I suggest what people should or should not enjoy. I only expressed genuine curiosity about the extreme ratings of 1 and 10. I figured that would make for an interesting discussion. I suppose I was wrong. Fair enough.
