Take That ? The best moment of the 90's is the day Some Might Say kicked off that TT single. Take that, Robbie.

I loved the Spice Girls. I wanted to be one. I once even dressed up as one to school, with a silver coloured top, skirt and platform shoes.
Good times.

Conveniently ignoring the arse end of Euro dance, Wet Wet Wet and a load of other things I'd rather forget that cluttered up the charts in the early 1990's

The 90s actually had good pop bands, and The Spice Girls were one of them Then it's gone to shit, why, i dont know. Music is made by people, so i guess people are shit too now You could argue that music being finite in terms of chords and melodies means that most sounds have been repeated at some point, with the 'Instant Everything' aspects of modern culture coupled with a collapse in revenues from record sales meaning that anyone trying something original is immediately at a disadvantage. I once asked someone from marketing at Sony what was the hardest type of film to market, and his reply was two words- "Anything original" which I think is true more than ever of music as well. People you could say as a society have changed into one that wants music to bury it's head in the sand away from the horrors of the modern world without wanting to get too deeply involved. I genuinely feel that is why the likes of Adele or Sam Smith sell millions because on the surface their records sound deep but scratch the surface and for me they do not hold a candle to any of the jazz, rock n' roll and soul classics of the past. They are however ideal for an 'instant' fix of dealing with a relationship break down for example that also involves a box of tissues, drink and maybe cigarettes for an evening or two. This may be harsh but I base it on what I have seen, and in the case of Adele the music business couldn't really lose as they needed a successor to Amy Winehouse who had the emotional sounding songs but without the baggage that came with them. That all said there is still great music out there, you just have to go looking for it rather than waiting for FM Radio or record companies to spoon feed it. In the pre-internet days you found fanzines, flexi-discs maybe took a punt on an LP after seeing the artist live or just being drawn to the sleeve artwork (hit and miss but occasionally worked for me), whereas now you can trawl search engines, YouTube, etc. and stumble across some excellent if obscure works without spending money or too much time beforehand

I like how having previously replaced 'vagina' with 'Tory' as your most offensive word, you have now combined them when describing the fat non-dancer from Take That I never thought I would side with Tulisa Contostavlos on much, but Gary has always come across as self satisfied and smug, with his biggest regret on a documentary I saw him in being that he didn't have as many Gold and Platinum discs for his solo songs as he did for the ones he wrote for Take That.

Incidentally, didn't Chris "bed wetter*" Martin do something similar, when he met up with the Gallagher brothers at a Q Awards ceremony in the 00s? I know my brother, who is also an Oasis fan (but not all that keen on Liam), took offence to him saying something about Coldplay's record sales in relation to Oasis's, to Liam, when the two were chatting. For me though, with Barlow, it was how just boring the fellow was, once he lost the weight, that I couldn't get past. Mind you, I suppose he's not the only one; watch out for bequiffed, tan-tastic men trooping out of your local Exercise4Less, next time you're near it, and tell me there isn't a correlation between amount of exercise and lack of personality... But when you're as filthy rich as he is, I feel like you lose the right to be that bland. He should take a leaf out of Angus Deayton's book. But yes, it was one thing above all else that finally did it for me with him (because, believe it or not, I did used to respect the man at one time, for his songwriting ability), and I think you can guess what that was... Michael Caine, Rod Stewart, Chris Rea, hell, even Roger Moore - I feel like very little of what they have accomplished matters now that I know them to be Tories... *© globe

Didn't like them back in the day but compared to what we got (in terms of pop music) since then? I'd never have complained even once.
