Not watching it myself, but I expected such a reaction. Think everyone did. What were the BBC thinking?

I thought it was alright to be honest, obviously not as good as old Top Gear but still entertaining. I'll give it a few more chances to find it's tone before casting it off completely.

I'll watch it tomorrow. My hopes are very low, so maybe it'll surprise me.

my top gear keys to success
1. drop the name - you might be able to ride on the momentum of the name but your trying to follow something that cant be topped so your going to be compared to what it was and therefore failure
2. drop chris evans - hes not funny, hes boring, should be on cbeebies or something at best with his constant shouting, hes classic "yes sir no sir three bags full sir" BBC presenter, bring in someone with some edge.
3. change the format - keeping most of the same format from the old days is pointless because its clearly not the format that works for these guys, overhaul it and do new stuff, "if it worked then it will work now" wont wash, why is chris evans talking in the intro EXACTLY like jeremy clarkson? its a parody, if you want jeremy clarkson then why did you fire him? so much for going in a new direction.
overall its not going to get far like it is imo, its just too bland and the presenters dont have much chemistry (matt and chris clearly dont even like eachother), feels forced "we're having super duper time whooohooo", good luck finding much laughter in this.
you cant recreate an old formula without the key ingredients.

Not watched it, not going to. Can't stand Chris Evans. Most people seem to be saying LeBlanc was the only good thing about it.
What made the show so great in the first place was the chemistry between the presenters, I'm not even into cars in the slightest but always watched Top Gear.

Le Blanc was good in the film shots but terrible in the studio. Evans was better in the studio and terrible in the film bits. All in all, it was horrible just didn't work.

Matt is good, in fact better than US version hosts. Evans does not fit. People won't give it the time. Why the original work is time and built chemistry. It can't be done again. Matt surprised me a lot to be honest.

Not watched it yet but I'm willing to give it a try.
I do already think that keeping the name and format was a mistake. They would have been better off rebranding it entirely and heading in a new direction.

They would have been better off rebranding it entirely and heading in a new direction. A bookmakers rumour after the original trio departed was a complete change of direction hiring Mel & Sue or Sue Perkins alone, which to me wouldn't have been that crazy. The usual brain dead moron types actually sent her death threats via (surprise surfuckingprise) Twitter, to which James May to his great credit suggested they would do the world a bigger favour if they instead killed themselves, before adding obviously he wasn't condoning suicide but he really didn't want those types as fans- BBC NewsAfter Anna Richardson tweeted her anger at how her girlfriend was being treated they had a lot of messages and pictures of support, so not a bad way to rally against keyboard warrior retards- The ExpressI genuinely think that bringing in such drastically opposite presenters and reformatting the show, whilst losing a core fan base perhaps, would have also opened the door to a whole new audience. Unfortunately this would have meant taking a risk versus BBC Worldwide earnings so it was never really going to happen.

Chris Evans acting like he's been on the show the entire time was very, very weird. I don't find him very likeable and I'm not sure many people do which isn't what you want from the main presenter. I wasn't Clarkson's biggest fan but I can't deny he was a good host. Evans is just very poor in comparison.
LeBlanc comes across very well, he has absolutely zero chemistry with Evans though.

The whole hiring of Chris Evans as others have already said elsewhere is a bizarre decision. They sacked Jeremy Clarkson who was a very divisive personality for the public, although as you say a good presenter. They then hire a man who hasn't exactly been a popular figure publicly, and aside from The One Show every TV show he has done since the 00's has ended up being axed due to ratings. Matt LeBlanc is a decent foil but appears to be there as far as I can see to add some likability to the show due to Chris Evans. If they were serious about moving on from the TG trio then they should have either axed the UK show and continue making money for BBC Worldwide by licensing the image and name rights overseas as they already do, or failing that moved in a totally different format with presenter/s whose style completely differs from the previous hosts. As a side note I see Chris Evans has started responding to the negativity on Twitter, using the word "FACT" (in capitals) to back his every point in his typical style- Huffington Post

I'm expecting Evans to start off next weeks show with a diatribe against those who hated it.
'TV Times called the show moribund, well I looked up moribund in the dictionary......'.

the only reason it had higher ratings was because people were checking out how bad it is chris, let a few episodes pass before you pat yourself on the back.
