Another obvious inspiration for Lyla was Street Fighting Man by the Rolling Stones.

Every time I see a response in this thread I'm hopeful we'll get a chance to hear the song... No such luck though!

this is the most disappointing thing since my wedding day. why would noel want to contribute music to a hack band that was only popular cause they were on tv. if the noel of yesteryear was asked to write a song for any band he would tell them to fuck off and write their own. how times hath changed noel.

They were really good live and i enjoyed their Behind the music album

It's really not that big a deal. If you were to tell me in the 90s that Noel would help make Oasis albums with shit songs like Nature of Reality and Ain't Got Nothin on it, then I'd be more appalled.

It was a collaboration with Paul Weller for his last album but it didn't make the album so they gave it to The Monkees. Is there a source for that?

“People say we’re the Rolling Stones and that Blur are the Beatles. We’re the Stones and the Beatles. They’re the fucking Monkees!” Noel Gallagher 1995 Jump 20 years later and Noel is best mates with Damon and is writing songs for the Monkees...

NEW MONKEES SINGLE COMING NEXT WEEK, ALBUM SET FOR MAY 27th
The Monkees’ 50th anniversary album — and first in a decade — called Good Times!, will be released on May 27th. The album’s lead single, “She Makes Me Laugh” — written by Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo — will drop on April 25th. In addition to a previously unissued Davy Jones track from the 1960’s, Mike Nesmith sings lead on three new songs, with Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork, who still tour under the group’s name, having contributed to the entire project. The album features songs the group passed over back in the day from such heavyweights as Carole King & Gerry Goffin, Harry Nilsson, and Neil Diamond.
The main draw of the new album is the inclusion on newly written songs by such “modern” songwriters as Cuomo, oasis’ Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, XTC’s Andy Partridge, and Fountains Of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger — who also serves as the album’s producer.
he full tracklisting to The Monkees’ 2016 album, Good Times!
“Good Times” (Harry Nilsson) “You Bring The Summer” (Andy Partridge) “She Makes Me Laugh” (Rivers Cuomo) “Our Own World” (Adam Schlesinger) “Gotta Give It Time” (Jeff Barry/Joey Levine) “Me & Magdalena” (Ben Gibbard) “Whatever’s Right” (Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart) “Love To Love” (Neil Diamond) “Little Girl” (Peter Tork) “Birth Of An Accidental Hipster” (Noel Gallagher/Paul Weller) “I Wasn’t Born To Follow” (Carole King/Gerry Goffin) “I Know What I Know” (Michael Nesmith) “I Was There (And I’m Told I Had A Good Time)” (Micky Dolenz/Adam Schlesinger)
