Neil Young became crazy with his political agenda, so I hope Liam will stay away from him for now when it comes to lyrics.

Neil's not writing his best songs Atm. He's being too narrowly political. His best political work had scope or a a humanist drive behind it. 'Ohio' hits fucking hard with the line 'what if you knew her and saw her dead on the ground?' I mean if you've ever seen a friend die that shit hits you hard as fuck. It's so blunt. But Neil's voice is perfect for Neil's songs. And it's so far from Liam's voice. Both are in my top 5 singers, but their voices are complete opposites. I know Noel was hugely influenced by Neil's songwriting, and I love that, but I don't hugely feel this is McGee's best idea. Probably because he's a legend and has loads of great ideas. Like managing the libertines, that should have worked.
But I really like Liam's songwriting. It's very distinctive. He uses a it of really odd chord progressions. And when he uses normal ones, he makes them sound like alien music. Or John Lennon b-sides. Which are pretty much the same and equal. I would love a whole album of Liam songs. I think we really need one. A whole album of his distinctive shit would ducking kill.

Neil Young is a bit of an ass these days, so no.
Liam should work with a producer, that's it. No sidekick, nothing. Just him, his songs and an engineer / producer.

I dig crazy Neil and his Horse. Stop discounting his music! Storytone, Psychedelic Pill, Monsanto Years are great records.
He always maintained political. It was a continuation! He was a f-ing hippie. If you wan't to piegon hole him, "that is fine"!
The simplicity of the Monsanto Years may p-ss people off. So be it!

I've nothing against Neil Young but this was disturbing, for a pseudo rebel edition.cnn.com/2015/06/24/politics/trump-responds-to-neil-young-on-twitter/Not that Trump is someone i really like, but just like every artist of this kind, they're a bit hypocrites (See Bono). Real political artists live in a tent somewhere in the desert and sing for the sand, they dont ask for money to billionaires. Being provocative is just a business to him now, it seems.

Keep getting people suggesting writers for Liam to work with but we keep talking about writers who don't even write great songs themselves anymore, nevermind save them for another singer.
Keep hearing names like Weller. I love Weller and I think he's up there with the best British musicians of all time but I prefer songs Liam has written to a lot of what he's put out in the past 10 years. Same goes for Marr's solo stuff.
He needs to put his name in lights and go for it and that means doing it alone. If it fucks up then at least he's fucked up without someone spoon feeding him songs.

I'm not sure he could come up with a whole album that's of reasonable quality by himself, and I'd rather see him succeed than fail again, like with Beady Eye. I mean, that "new song" sounds like shit!
He needs to get out of that "I'm desperate to sound like Lennon but I'm not nearly as eloquent and only know about 3 different melodies I can use" thing. He needs something new.

I agree it isn't exactly a move away from the sound you are talking about but it would be a solid album track IMO. The greatness is there in his songwriting. Yes, its few and far between in terms of consistency but I think a lot of that has been down to misguided tracklists. I mean, if you look at the DOYS era, he wrote my favourite 2 songs in that time with I'm Outta Time and Boy With The Blues. Flick Of The Finger (albeit it with lyrical help), start anew, evil eye, morning son, wigwam. There's enough quality there but its just scattered.

Well that's your opinion. If it takes him 10 years to write I'm Outta Time then I'm not too hopeful for an album. I don't get what's so great about the songwriting, aka a melody we've heard a hundred times before and 3 nonsensical lines or whatever but that's probably just me

Guess God Thinks I'm Abel and Songbird are two really solid little acoustic tracks, Born on a Different Cloud is spacey and kind of dark but gets let down by the production, and The Meaning of Soul and Love Like a Bomb server their purpose on Don't Believe the Truth and add a little bit of youthful fun to the flow of things. I would not mind seeing an album of contributions like that at all, just as long as we don't get songs like Won't Let You Down or Ain't Got Nothin' anymore. Those two are drivel. (Also, I Believe in All is a good little song from that era too. It could've easily replaced (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady on the album. It just feels like it has that lead-in quality to it.) EDIT: Almost forgot Pass Me Down the Wine. That's another fine tune.

I offer the following great idea. Liam does a duet with Taylor Swift and kills her career stone dead too.

The trouble is, Weller puts out a 6 or 7/10 album and he has the label of music songwriting genius behind him, Liam puts out something of the same quality and he has much more to prove and therefore it instantly becomes a 4 or 5/10 album in the critics eyes. Sad but true, as it proved with some of the scandalous reviews for BE

Sad but true, as it proved with some of the scandalous reviews for BE Now I don't agree with this AT ALL. It's very obvious that Weller is a better songwriter than Liam, even if this is a subjective matter. That's why in my opinion, Liam should seek help if he wants to record an album. Some of the mentioned songs are good songs, like Songbird, Born On A Different Cloud, I'm Outta Time etc. An album with those songs would be absolutely great, but we can't expect that! Liam struggles with writing songs and we know that it usually takes him a long time to write a song, and if he finishes one, they often sound unfinished. Expecting an album full of I'm Outta Times, Born On A Different Clouds and Songbirds would be the same as expecting a Noel album full of Wonderwalls, Live Forevers, Don't Look Back In Angers etc. You get the idea. Also, I think Liam should put out an album because he loves making music, not to get critical acclaim or to prove anything. Because chances that will happen are very slim. See Beady Eye. I'm afraid his image will prevent people to buy anything either. That may sound stupid, but there are people who think that way.

I've said before if that name was Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye then you instantly add a shit load more sales onto it anyway. Throw into that that they were desperately unlucky not to have had two no.1 albums and wasn't all bad at all. Beady Eye sold more than Johnny Marr for instance (someone touted as a contributor for Liam). Back to my original post, I said Weller was a better songwriter. I do not doubt that. But if I'm comparing BE to Wellers last effort then I prefer BE, and my favourite songs from that era are Liam written. My point is, which you already kind of touched on, there's a huge resentment for Liam from people who couldn't wait to try and bring him down a peg or two from his untouchable days in the 90s. The whole music journalism industry is irrelevant and corrupt anyway but we all read the reviews and whether we like it or not if enough people write its shit then then most the public who sadly find it hard to think for themselves will go with it.

Hmm, not sure about that. Liam's voice is very distinctive. People would definitely recognize his voice, no matter what name. I mean, how long did it take before everyone figured out Damon Albarn was the singer of The Gorillaz?
