Liam.....call up Danger Mouse. You'll thank me. well I like a band called portugal the man and that mouse geezer did production for their last album and it' s below average. Just don' t know if the band wanted it to sound so bland or it was his work but the album sucks, almost unlistenable

World Outside My Room, Off at The Next Exit, Back Afer The Break, Flick of the Finger... these are all really good songs but it's pretty evident that Liam really isn't much of a songwriter on his own. He's capable of writing a catch - if generally simple - verse but just doesn't have that natural talent for a chorus that Noel did. Noel's way of songwriting isn't always the best though... it's always full of beautiful melodies and a great structure but other than quite recently his songs were generally A-B-A-B-C etc.
I think with their combined talents that Beady Eye could have put out a really good album but you got the impression they were trying to write Noel songs and there are just so few people in the world with that gift for melody.

Liam would never make it as a solo artist with his current public persona and his inability in interviews to sell himself to the public as a likeable person. The dye is cast, his reputation is a sweary, wild hooligan whose voice is shot to shit. Image means a lot to a solo artist and he hasn't reinvented his image at this point. Has to be said Noel has become a far more likeable personality to the average Joe. In the 90s he was a coked up and obnoxious shit head in a lot of people's eyes, now he's a witty elder statesman of rock respected for his classic songwriting and entertaining, funny interviews. I know Noel is the better songwriter and was always destined to do better than Liam as a result, but Noel also presents himself in a far more acceptable way to the mainstream now. Liam is still an angry young man who wishes it was the 90s. He not only doesn't play the game, he doesn't even know what fucking sport it is.
So what should be next for Liam? A vasectomy for starters.

I'm glad he doesn't play the game and it would be good if he just put out some music. Your whole post is about what others think. Jesus fuck.

I mention those elements because Liam wants to be a big star again, that's clear to see. Trawling around tiny venues with Beady Eye killed his spirit. In order for Liam to be a big star again he needs to care what the public think and reinvent his image. He probably won't do that which is why he will never be a solo star like Noel. I don't care if Liam does reinvent his image or not, I'd buy any new music he puts out regardless because I'm a fan. But you can tell the guy wants to be BIG again and truly BIG means appealing to casual music fans as well as a small hardcore group. He certainly doesn't want to be slumming it in tiny venues which weren't always filling out to capacity. If he did Beady Eye would still be going.

Liam had no part whatsoever (so far as we know) in the writing of World Outside My Room, Off At The Next Exit, or Back After The Break.
