Why? Particularly as they’re not doing the same thing. Noel's a plumber? Yes, if you like.

How well exactly are we expecting a 52-year-old to be faring in the modern music scene, after 25 years in the business? Maybe as good as the other brother? Why? Particularly as they’re not doing the same thing.

I also think a lot of people have taken the “unsophisticated” remarks as a dig at Oasis music. I don’t think Noel meant that. Oasis songs (for the most part) weren’t unsophisticated. Brash and direct, yes. But they were tightly-structured and elegant - that’s what set them apart.
I think labelling Liam’s solo fans as unsophisticated is harsh, but not all Oasis fans are Liam solo fans. I love Oasis and Liam’s music doesn’t interest me at all.
By all means take issue with Noel ribbing fans who only want him to do his 90s thing, but I don’t think it means he’s washing his hands of Oasis’ legacy.

His music isn't. Whether you like it or not. How well exactly are we expecting a 52-year-old to be faring in the modern music scene, after 25 years in the business?

Perhaps I'm looking too much into this on social media and posts on here to an extent, but the backlash against Noel is reaching its peak from what I can see. In fact I haven't seen a lot of positive reaction to anything he has done since Chasing Yesterday. With WBTM I remember this place was completely divided and people HATED Holy Mountain. I don't really think Noel has gone that "far out" if you can call it that, he's dipping a bit into different genres of music and seeing what happens. So, is the consensus among Oasis fans that he's shit until he goes back to what he is know for, or is it because of the whole Noel / Liam divide, with fans being more favourable towards Liam? Holy Mountain is the song with his most sucessful chart run after WAL, by some distance. Peaked at 31 and charted for 10 weeks (https://www.officialcharts.com/search/singles/holy-mountain/). Much better run than ITHOTM, TDOTL, IIHAG, Riverman and all the other "classical" Noel singles. So if people in this forum hated Holy Mountain (or, more precisely, was divided about it), then maybe it's because this forum is not representative of the hundreths of thousands of Oasis fans out there. It's representative of course of us: a certain type of die-hard fan, very limited in number up to the point of being probably irrelevant from the commercial point of view. Most 'oasis fans' do not go to forums and social media to argue with strangers about the way Noel and the band bow after a concert, or to overanalyze the meaning of a sentence in his last interview, as we do. And the data simply does not match that "big backslash after WBTM" narrative: WBTM sales were as as strong as CY, and tickets for the shows sold as well or better. This was true with concerts were heavily based on new material. Outside of the fanbase, the album had more positive reviews than all the albums he was involved since the 90s and it was nominated for the Mercury. So no surprise Noel does not seem worried This. Fans of everything these days seem desperate to control narratives of success/failure by shouting the loudest. It’s nonsense. Noel’s doing great. All of this “his attitude to fans is turning people away” stuff is sheer projection.

This version of SCYHO is my favourite Noel-performed Oasis song in recent years. I never cared much for the song in its original form, but I’ve fallen in love with this.

Great interview, all the better for the lack of Liam nonsense.
Agree that I don’t think Holmes and Noel were trying to create music that was unemotional, it sounds to me like it just wasn’t the starting point of the tracks.

I still play WBTM a lot, the album has really held up. I don’t listen to HFB or CY much at all, in fact I’d drifted away from them a few months after their releases.
Move the Interlude up to after STMHTF and the album would be damn near perfect.
Also, Black and White Sunshine is massively underrated IMO. Belter live too, shame it’s been dropped from the set.

I love Noel’s current direction. Totally get that it’s not for everyone, but I’ve always felt like he’s had it in him to do stuff like this.

“Little James, we’re all the same.”
The subject of the piece, James, is little. The narrator is likewise.

This Capaldi stuff is a bit harsh. But I don’t get all this “Noel’s changed” business. He’s always had a sharp mouth and acted up in interviews. And politically, when has he ever given the impression that he’s been anything other than a centrist? People are acting as though he was Citizen Smith in the 90s. He really wasn’t. He seems to be a bit more unapologetic about the extent of his music geekiness these days, but I don’t see how that’s a bad thing.
There’s no doubt he can be a bit of a helmet at times, but it’s not for any of us to say that he’s betraying his former self. We didn’t know him personally then, and we don’t now.

The mental gymnastics people do to minimise Liam’s wrongdoings are genuinely depressing.
So sick of this “He was baited..” etc etc. Get a grip. He’s a middle-aged man. You can still enjoy his music and be a fan without excusing outright bullying. Having an army of devotees who’ll defend literally anything you say or do is exactly what enables people with big profiles to continue acting like this.

Obviously I disagree. Has he taken an interest in any band since Kasabian? When he chose his favourite albums for that iTunes thing it was Beatles, George Harrison, Roses, La’s etc. Basically what he was listening to as a teenager as far as I can see, and even my Dad liked a few bands in his teens. As far as his own stuff goes, I’ve no doubt he thinks the album’s great but my perception is that all he’s really interested in is doing the gigs. If anything he’s seemed bored when talking about AYW. “Yeah, guitars, rock and roll, the producers got it all ready for me, I went in and did my bit” (not a direct quote). Again none of this is “bad”, but as I say, I can’t relate. Liam just recently named his top-3 Australian bands including Holy Holy and DMA's. Obviously he's listening to lots of music. I think people here forget that social media is not his whole life. Liam could be listening to fucking jazz and none us would know it! Well quite, we can only go by how he responds when he’s asked about music.

I’m sure no one cares, but for me I think I could put up with a lot more of Liam’s nonsense if he occasionally talked about music. He comes across as someone with absolutely no interest in it. Even his own. As a music nerd, I struggle to relate. Anyway, sorry to be Billy Negative. As I say, I’ll just try to avoid. I don't think you could be more wrong about it, music is Liam's reason for being. I've always admired the fact he was only bothered about his own stuff, its ridiculous but he was always seemed more into what he was up to. He's not eloquent about music, his own included but I don't doubt that he loves it. Obviously I disagree. Has he taken an interest in any band since Kasabian? It’s like there’s nothing Liam can say or do to cool off the adoration of his fans.
I dunno. I think I’m just gonna unfollow him on Twitter and avoid interviews because the more I see, the more of a moron he seems and I don’t want to ruin the music for myself.

As much as I try not to judge people on their personal lives, Liam’s positioning as some sort of salt of the earth family man leaves a sour taste.
