Yeah I remember this, u can watch the video on YouTube. But just to clarify, this is not the time de Havilland is referring to. His story is around the time 2002-2003. He had left long before 2006. I thought it was weird, considering the years. Could you please give me the link to the video you talked about? The link for the 2006 gig is here I don't think anyone filmed him singing but caught him just as he finished

It's from 2006: www.nme.com/news/richard-ashcroft/22058Liam Gallagher makes surprise London appearance Oasis man helps out an old friend Richard Ashcroft was joined onstage by Liam Gallagher at his London show last night (January 24). The Oasis singer appeared onstage at Camden Electric Ballroom to help out on a version of ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’, a Number One hit for Ashcroft’s old band The Verve back in 1997. According to fans at the show Ashcroft was struggling with a rendition of the song and was lying on the floor when Gallagher came onstage to pick him up and encourage him to carry on, which he did. When he finished the song Gallagher came on again and started applauding. Then he spoke into the microphone to praise Ashcroft for being a “free spirit”. So Liam has sang The Drugs Don't Work not once, but twice? I've never heard of this before. Are there any recordings? Just been doing some digging (sad I know!) Have tried to verify the story mentioned in the article. Oasis played at the royal Albert hall for the teenage cancer trust charity on 6th February 2002 with Richard Ashcroft supporting. On 26th March 2003 Richard Ashcroft played a set at the royal Albert hall for the same charity and members of oasis were present (Liam, Noel, gem and also terry kirkbride) . In the article it mentions Noel wearing a blue shirt which he is in 2003, photo here www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/noel-and-liam-gallagher-of-rock-band-oasis-attend-a-charity-news-photo/2099159

I was aware they had a tough time recording songs for don't believe the truth around that time, obviously loosing Alan white and having to find a new drummer (eventually getting Zak starkey) would have been unsettling. Frustrating really as they had some good songs around at the time that they never got right like stop the clocks and record machine. I think it's such a shame they didn't use the Liam verson of Lord don't slow me down, although I suppose it's right at the edge of his range. The b side Those swollen hand blues was also around at this time (it sounds as if it was on the same recording as mucky fingers). I think it's a good b side and should have been used for one of the DBTT singles instead of being held back for a single off DOYS.

This week I listened back to heathen chemistry for the first time in years, here are a few thoughts Hindu Times - the rhythm of it reminds me of the rolling stones. Force of nature - would love to hear a Liam sung version of this but sadly it is out of his vocal range. Just would have lifted the song to the next level for me. Better man - loads of great riffs throughout this song. The drumming is different as there are two drummers I think (Alan and Noel) which makes it sound a bit like the drumming in instant karma by John Lennon where he did the same thing. Really like the chords in the outro, they sound like an alternate tuning.

I thought that CD:UK performance in 2002 was brilliant, one of the best moments of that era. Particularly like the bass playing, guitar solo and pace of that version of RNRS. Also I think it one of their best performances for TV and also ITV got the sound right.
I remember Iin 2002 they also did a session for TOTP on BBC and there were issues with the sound and mix of the band. I think the session didn't have the energy of the CD:UK session.
Shame during that era Noel and Gem didn't do an acoustic session with versions of LBL, SCYHO etc

Listen to this, fascinating stuff www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00r2361Steve Lamacq's joined by Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft as he assesses the legacy of the band's 1997 reunion LP Urban Hymns, which is our Classic Album of the Day. The Verve's 3rd LP remains one of the top 20 best selling British albums of all time and walked away with the Brit for Best Album and a nomination for the Mercury Prize. It also spawned the mammoth singles, Bitter Sweet Symphony, Sonnet, The Drugs Don't Work and Lucky Man.

I like the remixes by unkle. I would have liked to have seen UNKLE do some remixes at the time of DOYS, but I thought the prodigy and chemical brothers remixes were great

Just want to pass on my thanks to the uploader a big THANK YOU!!!!
Monobrow: thank you for your contributions, your posts are always make for balanced, interesting reading.
Like everyone else I would love to hear some different mixes of the BHN songs. The demo clips of AATW and DGA sound great.
Haven't listened to BHN in years. HITIK sounds brilliant, brings all the memories back! Remember sitting in a car on cold night while on holiday in 1997 listening to the radio of the steve lamacq show where he played half the album one night and then was not allowed to play the rest the next day due to the people at Ignition management!

I'd hope that they might end up doing a short acoustic radio session or something (Maybe something like the live lounge)... And I'd really hope we'd get Liam doing vocals... I'd guess if they did, they'd do five songs: Millionaire World Outside My Room Kill For A Dream Wind Up Dream The Roller And if it was Live Lounge, Across The Universe as a cover... Living in dream land, I'd want them to do Wonderwall or something, but it'll never happen Yes I agree. I'd like to see/hear them do an acoustic set at some point or just a couple of songs done acoustically. I think the following songs would work acoustically in their normal arrangements Millionnaire The Roller (With Piano and acousitc guitars) Wind up dream For Anyone (Bit obvious as its acoustic anyway!) I think they could somehow rework some other songs to work stripped down in a different style Kill for a dream Three ring circus the beat goes on

I thought the sessions they band did for BBC Radio 1, American Radio and the Abbey Road show were fine really good. I'm sure at least one of the gigs on the tour will be broadcast on TV/internet. Maybe they are waiting until a bit later in the tour to do it, when they have found out what works and what doesn't in the set list.
I'd like to hear Morning Sun live, from the youtube video it sounds good.

Oasis Live and Studio Holy Grail Tracks
Just thought about a list of “realistic” Live and studio recorded tracks that us fans would like to get hold of. What other “realistic” tracks can you think of?
Here the tracks I could think of:
10th May 2005 Astoria; London, UK Headshrinker (Only performance on that tour)
Stop The Clocks (Liam Vocal)
Jan 2003 Sawmills Studios, Cornwall Death In Vegas DBTT Album Sessions
2002 Musique Plus, MuchMusic Interview including Hindu Times acoustic (Full Version)
Mustique Island Demo Tape May 1996
1st October 1995 Virgin Megastore; Oxford Street, London, UK Short acoustic gig at midnight to promote the launch of the (What’s the Story?) Morning Glory album.
24th June 1995 The Acoustic Stage; Channel 4, Glastonbury Festival 95, Glastonbury, Somerset, UK Roll With It (Noel solo acoustic backstage)

it could never live up to the hype and expectation but I also think it doesn't deserve the kicking its getting either, rather like the be here now album i suppose
I like it, but i think it would be great if we got to here some of the other versions, such as liam singing it or different arrangements.

1. Supersonic – Classic first single 2. Some Might Say – First number one single 3. The Shock of the Lightning – So far so good 4. Lyla – A real return to form, was great at the gigs 5. Go Let It Out – a contemporary Beatles song 6. DYKWIM – too long, over produced and far too many guitar tracks 7. The Hindu Times – not one of their better songs really
